To Video or Not to Video....

Hi all!

I'm looking for some opinions when it comes to having a Videographer at the reception or not.?

My original plans were to just have a video of the Ceremony but my MOH says that I might regret not getting the reception on video. Just some background, the reception will be at the Contemporary Resort- Napa Room and there will be less than 50 guests and there will be no dance floor so that's why I don't think video would be needed.

All opinions are welcomed and appreciated!

We are getting the reception videotaped because we at least want the main dances on video (i.e. first dance, father/daughter dance, etc). And because I want to see everybody makin a fool of themselves dancing. Just kidding....sort of.

I have one of my ceremony and never watched it So not even sure it is worth it to video it to begin with. Now if you were doing it to show at a reception back home, than I can see do it.

I don't think you HAVE to have a reception video if it's not something you think you want. I'm planning the same as you-- just a video of the ceremony. My reasoning is that I can't see myself (and especially not FI) sitting down to watch the reception. I absolutely want a video of the ceremony, but that's the part that really matters, you know? I can see us watching that on anniversaries, and one day I want my kids to be able to see it. It's not like you will have no way to remember the reception-- you'll have lots of pictures!

Maybe if you're still unsure, you should way it in terms of budget. Would you rather have a longer video package, or more flowers? Better champagne? Etc.

Aside from important dances, if you are having toasts at your reception, you might want to have those documented! Just a thought!

We had a casual brunch with no dancing (except first dances), but I still had the videographer stay to shoot it. In most wedding videos, they feature the entire ceremony but just highlights of the reception, so it's not like your video will have 3 hours of people sitting around eating and talking. Ours just has highlights of the first dances, the cake cutting, and the speeches, plus a few general shots of the reception and us leaving on a Friendship boat.

We had our reception at the Napa Room with no dance floor either and still had a videographer come. We had our cake/first dance at a different location before the reception. He videotaped that and then came over to get our guests on camera saying something to us and just filmed for maybe the first 30-45 mins then left and came back later that night to film the dessert party. We are so glad we did it this way.

If I was having a dance floor I would have went with Video for the reception right away since I too would love to have those *fun* memories on video

I'm not sure if I'll ever have the urge to watch the video from the reception but I'm sure I'll watch the video of the Ceremony just to bring back those memories.

I def agree with you! Thanks so much I'm still trying to budget everything out so I'll see what I can do but you made a very good point.

That's what I was worried about, I wouldn't want the videographer to stand around and be bored since there's not too much to get on video. But it might be worth it for the cake cutting atleast. Thanks
