I had gotten the recommendation off this board for a Mix Max for my dds and got an awesome deal on them. We are going to start converting our dvds soon and I need a lot of help. First, is the battery life really only 2 hours? How does that work out for you? We were planning on them using them for our car trip to Disney this summer - it's a 16 hour ride so the 2 hour life would be an issue. Next, how many hours of movies can you put on an SD card? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I've never done anything along the lines of an Ipod so I'm a bit lost. My dh has the tech background to do the conversion though.

Thanks!

We love the mix max. Here is the software we use to rip dvds.....it will save your sanity as the mix max directions make no sense!!

I think the first 5 rips or so are a free trial.

You can use up to a 2 gb sd card (can buy 2 pack of 2 gb cards at Big Lots for $9)...we have full length movies and 3 or 4 1/2 hr shows, so I would guess they would hold about 4-4 1/2 hrs of video.

We have been able to use ours for days w/o needing a recharge, but we typically don't watch for more than 2 hrs at a stretch. We have also downloaded storybooks from cds. Our city library also has free online access to download audio books, which I think is very cool!
Don't forget to load your favorite music too!

I have used the above program. A 2 GB card will hold 5 full length movies. The kids won't sit and watch a movie longer than the 2 hrs. plus if you buy a wall charger for it, they have adapters that you can plug into the lighter to charge the mix max.

I third the recommendation for MagicDVDripper. We tried 2 other programs before that one with little success. Our free trials were based on 5 download sessions instead of 5 individual downloads so we were able to download 10 movies on the free trial. Like the pp said, about 5 2 hour movies fit on one
2G SD card.

Okay, so my dh is ripping a 1 hr. 35 min. movie on magicdvdripper and it's saying it will take 9 hours to rip it. We are outputting to a WMV 64x480 - would this amount of time be correct? Thanks!

when I did mine it didn't take that long. Most took about an hour from what I remember.
I can't help with the tech stuff since my DH put the program on my computer and set all the specifications....I just had to put the movie in and say OK most of the time.

If you have trouble with that program try Pocket DVD Wizard. I was able to figure that one out myself, but you can only test it with 5 mins of a movie not 5 entire movies.

Anyone know where you can get a car charger? We're also taking ours on our long trip to WDW.

My kids love theirs by the way. They love looking at the pictures while listening to music.

:O)

Make sure that you click the button that says convert for Mix max. It sets size automatically and doesn't take long. But it will also depend on the speed of your DVD drive.

I found that my GPS charger also works for the Mix Max...but that won't help you if you are trying to use both at the same time in the car.

It looks like this converts dvds to the format where you can use them on ipods too. Has anyone ever used it for this? My DD keeps buying movies to put on her ipod and we have so many dvds - so I'd love to be able to put some of them on there for her.

Length of time with the magicdvdripper definately depends on the speed of your computer and the type of movie. Most of mine take the entire length of the movie to rip but some have taken 12 hours!!!

new to this board :goodvibes this seems to be the only site where I can get real up to date info on the Mix Max. I have a question on the DVD ripper does my computer need to have a dvd player to use this program? I can rip c.d's and burn them but I have never tried a DVD. We have a 4 1/2 hour plane trip in July and I'd like to have atleast 2movies, some audiobooks and music downloaded for them. TIA

yes, your computer needs to be able to read DVD's to do this. A CD reader will not do this. It will cost about $150 to get a portable DVD player to hook up to a USB port on yours.

Absolutley!!! DD14 has an ipod...we convert movies through magicdvdripper for her.

Oh, I wasted so much time the first few times I tried to convert movies before I realized there was a seperate format for mixmax. :sad2:

I have found that the charges for both the home and car for the Razor phone will work for the Mix Max. I have also found that just putting one movie on a 512 SD card is a lot faster than trying to load 4 movies on a 2 GB. The first movie will load quickly but the rest will take a while.

OP here, thanks for all the tips. He's now gotten several ripped without a problem (once he switched to the Mixmax format it went much quicker. We already checked and our GPS charger will work so we are good to go! Thanks again...

Thank You for the information pyrxtc :thumbsup2 I believe my parents have a dvd reader on their p.c. if not we really need to invest in one :)
