To ride or not to ride (Expedition Everest), that is the question.

Hi all,

Expedition Everest, can any chicken ride this ride? I am heading to WDW in a little over a week, with a sister who loves roller coasters. I love keeping down my lunch. On the scary scale what it is? Are there any big drops, flips, or anything that wouldn't allow a 5 year old from riding?

Thank you!

My DD12 is a thrill ride junkie and loves intense coasters that flip you around and upside down and although she said Expedition Everest doesn't flip you upside down, she said it is INTENSE. HER saying it is intense is plenty enough for me to know I don't ever want to ride it. She didn't give me details on why it is so intense.

It sends you backwards through a dark twisting tunnel. I know it doesn't flip you upside down but it has the same feeling. If you don't like coasters I don't recommend it.

My 5 year old loved EE! Give it a try once. It goes backwards for a few seconds and there's really just one big drop. You can watch the big drop if you want before you go on it from the viewing area. We love EE! :thumbsup2

Hello, I am also a chicken. I just returned from my 17th visit last week. For some reason I decided I was going to take on all the rides I never thought I would ever ride. I rode Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, Rock N' Roller Coaster, Splash Mountain and whatever else there is. Expedition Everest Scared me the most as we were climbing the mountain. I seriously hate heights. There is one big drop as I recall, where they take your picture. It truly is fun. You will enjoy it. Also, I always keep in mind when I start to get nervous about riding a ride that Disney test their rides frequently and to the T. They are such a big company they wouldn't want something to happen to one of their guests that would get out and hurt their reputation. :) It really isn't that bad! you'll have fun!

Also, you should keep your lunch down. I get pretty bad motion sickness but a dramomine fixs that mostly up.

All the Disney coasters are pretty mild but really fun IMO.

I went to six flags great America over the summer after we got back from WDW and I disliked most of the coasters there.... maybe I am just getting old?

Anyway, the rides at WDW are much tamer and more enjoyable, IMO anyway.

That said, EE is the one ride I have not been on in WDW. On our last trip it was closed for most of the day. It opened back up and I had a FP, 10 min in line with FP and it broke down again. I gave up on it.

See I was wondering this about EE too. I'm not a huge fan of roller coasters and told my fiance I would be going on BTMRR and Space Mountain but am really not sure about EE. How fast does it go?

It's pretty fast but nothing outrageous. I am not a coaster fan. My DH has yet to convince me to go on TOT or RNRC. But EE is ok. Just gotta brace yourself for the backwards part and the big drop. The theming is worth the ride through at least once.

Thank you. Did you son barf, cry, and/or turn green? If you can no to all of these questions, I can say yes.

thanks!

EE is awesome! Very fast but no super steep hills and no inversions. I won't go on most of the coasters at Universal but I ADORE EE! My son rode it when he has five and wasn't too crazy about it! He's a bit of a ride wimp, though.

DS's were 6 and 4 on our first visit to Disney. DS4 BARELY made the cut off height but after his first time on it rode it with his hands in the air everytime!

Now when we go I can't hardly keep up with them because they are running for the single rider lines on ToT, RNR, and EE!!!!

My seven year old rode it repeatedly. She's a thrill ride fanatic, though. She thought it was tamer that Rock-n-Roller Coaster (it is). I say go for it!

I say go for it!!! It's really not that bad... the going backwards part is different, but just laugh out loud, and scream a lot and you'll be fine!!!!!

I'm surprised that some people think EE is really intense. I find it to be a pretty mild coaster. My DD is a little bit of a chicken, and she loves EE. The most intense part is the backwards section, but even that I didn't find to be all that scary.

I agree with those that say go for it....at least once. I rode it for the first time on my last trip. I rode it at least 6 times. It is now one of my favorite rides. I thought space mountain and Rockin Roller Coaster were jerky. I thought EE was smooth and too fun. No hill that bad and no inversions. I thought it would be scary, but the hill looks much worse from the side lines. Have fun.:scared1:

The only intense part is the going backwards. You do kind of have the same feeling of going upside down but it is quick and the rest of the ride is easy.

How is it compared to BTMR and Space Mountain? DD6 loves BTMR, but absolutely hated Space Mountain - way too intense for her and made her feel pretty queasy for a good 10 minutes after we got off of the ride. I'd love to give her a new ride to try out, but Space Mountain was a pretty bad experience - if EE comes close, it'll be a no-go for us.

I say try it. I will give you the hint of when you are climbing up the mountain don't look off to the side. I'm not scared of heights, but the first time I did look off the side, and it scared me.

My soon to be 6 year old has mixed reviews about it. I have a great pic of him at 4 riding it with both hands up. Then 5months later he didn't really like it and I had to really convince him hard to ride it a second time. Where on the other hand he loves BTMRR. I think we have rode it 4 times straight. He still hasn't tried Space MT. He doesn't like the idea of not being next to his dad or me. I'm thinking about him trying RNRC if he is tall enough this time. We'll see.

But try it for sure. I don't think it will make you sick at all. But if you don't want to get sick for sure don't ride the other coaster at AK, the one in dinoland. I rarely get motion sickness, and I felt awful after riding that thing.

I just love Expedition Everest, it's one of my favorite coasters ever, in part because it isn't too intense. For me, EE is just a notch above BTMR on the thrill meter. This coaster is so beautifully themed, it's worth a shot just to walk through the queue.

I find Expedition Everest to be a far more pleasant experience than Space Mountain -- EE is very smooth in contrast to SM. Also, I prefer to ride Expedition Everest with a child, way better than Space Mountain. The Expedition Everest trains allow for two people to share a seat side by side whereas with Space Mountain, even though you're in the same car, the child has to sit alone. :goodvibes
