To Kidney - and BEYOND! MAW PTP

Ahh - Gadsen, yes... we use that town as a measure of what our weather will be like. We love seeing snow (you know, once every other year and just a dusting at that) on the radar there, because we know it's coming for us!:jumping1: I'm about 30 minutes to the east of Rome, GA.
Got my groceries... with ice cream, popcorn and a bag of cheetos. Hey, I promise they were necessary at the time, as I was hungry!:rotfl2:
Hope you enjoyed your errands!

Cool!! E's cardiologist is from Rome (and I have several college friends from there). I haven't been out that way in a while. Not since I went to Berry College with some friends.

Hahaha! I hate shopping when I'm hungry! I did some thrift store diving today. Found a Minnie Mouse dress for one of E's little friend's birthdays this weekend (will clean it, of course!) and, what I thought was some Woody accessories (because it said, "WOODY-TOY STORY" on the outside of the package). Well, there was a nice felt cowboy hat with a RHINESTONE-LIKE sparkly star on it, a matching cuff for the wrist, a huge belt with a star on it, a bandana, silver (!) lasso, and a brown vest. Oh well. I think I will need to pass most of that on to E's friend (her party is this weekend and she likes dress up stuff- her invitation had her dressed as Jessie on it). Win some, lose some. :upsidedow

Oh, that stinks about the "Woody" outfit - how misleading!:rolleyes2 Have fun at the party! And from now on, I will shop with an emergency baggie of food in my purse.

Just been hanging out and enjoying the BEAUTIFUL Fall weather in GA. Mid 80's and lower humidity. Sigh - it's perfect weather for some college football!:yay::sunny:
And it is getting to be that time of year to pick out Halloween costumes too! William wants to be a police officer, we are heading out tomorrow to scout that one out in the stores. Matthew was Woody last year, he wants to be Woody this year. I told him to branch out a bit. He branched THIS far...

Sweet!!! E was Woody last yr & is gonna be Buzz this yr, too!! That's a great costume! Where did y'all get it? It looks much more Halloween-in-TX-friendly than the vinyl Disney Store one we have!

It is actually from the Disney store - but from last year. My neighbor had used it for her youngest son last year and said we could us it this year. yes, we need nice and cool for trick or treating here too! Hope you find one - have you searched ebay?

I know I've been MIA for a while now - we have been having some health issues with Matthew. They are testing for leukemia and just this weekend he's been complaining of tummy pain/tenderness. He's on a feeding tube, and it was pulled out while he was playing with his brother last week. His white count is very low and he is neutropenic at the moment also - so I thought maybe his inner stomach lining was irritated and it would just take time to heal. Well, now he is bleeding (no granulation tissue though) and started running a 102 fever tonight. I'm calling GI in the morning. It's just been crazy! But I promise I'm not gone... well, maybe mentally. But I'll be back - just haven't had to time to get on as much with my baby under the weather.:sad1:

Good luck! Hopefully it's just a sore stomach from the feeding tube. I know when my daughters accidentally comes out she is in pain for a few days. Hope that helps!

Oh my goodness!! I do not like seeing the "l" word up there. :worried: I will be praying for Matthew!!

:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

I'm with them ^

Worried about you guys. Hope things are well & you're just busy.

I'm here!!! Good news to report - NO leukemia! It was Parvo. Yes, the same thing that is in dogs. I had doggy-sat a couple of pooches for a friend of mine and they were unvaccinated and Matthew got sick! We've been able to treat with IVIG and stay away from blood transfusions - which always gets tricky when you are introducing new antibodies on an already "new to you" kidney. Labs are still not perfect, but he is feeling much better and re-gaining his energy!:cheer2:
So I have to include a couple pics of my "To Kidney and Beyond" little fighter. He only made it a couple of streets, and then had to ride daddy's shoulders, but he had fun trick or treating with his big bro "Officer William"
Thank you SO much for the concern and kind thoughts! I'm making my way back to the boards for an update soon!!

Wow!! Well, I'm sorry he got sick and is still not 100% but I am SOOOOO HAPPY it wasn't leukemia! :cool1:

Your boys are too handsome in their costumes!

WELCOME BACK!

So glad you guys are back. Glad it is not leukemia too!! I had no idea that people could get parvo! How scary is that! Hope he is back to 100% soon!

Oh and danced and jumped up and down when they said it wasn't leukemia! :worship: He's already on three immuno-suppression meds for his kidney - didn't want to add chemo to the mix. :worried: One day, we'll get to that point - as his meds he takes (cellcept and prograf especially) are highly carcinogenic with lymphomas and skin cancers being the real threat. We do cancer screening labs every 3 months at kidney clinic. When we get to that point, we'll deal with it like we've dealt with all the other not so pleasant stuff. But I'd much rather NOT deal with it while he is still young and still traumatized by the medical world that he only sees as a cruel form of torture instead of a place to make he feel better. SO- off my soapbox! :mic:
Thank you - I think they look quite cute too! I'll be popping over to your PTR this evening. You are SOOOOO close to your date!! Has your brain turned into anticipation mush yet???:banana:

Yes, we're back, we're back! Happy dance!!:cool1::cool1: And yes, I knew he could get parvo - his transplant docs told us we couldn't get a puppy from now on, only fully vaccinated, adult dogs. Parvo comes across as just a cold, but then he started get REALLY sleeping, ghostly pale, bruising easily, his white count dropped to nearly non-existent and then so did his hemoglobin. So they ran all their tests and parvo came back positive. It was a relief and a worry - as with it being a virus, you just have to wait it out and hope you don't need a blood transfusions among other scary things (that doctor google will point out if you search parvo on transplant recipients):faint:. Now we are NOT rookies at transfusions, Matthew has had PLENTY! (54 to be exact!):scared1: But those were all PRE-transplant. Mixing his natural antibodies with his donor's antibodies and throwing in new antibodies from a couple of transfusions just spell out disaster! So, I'm thrilled we were able to avoid that! But from now on, any time I doggy sit - my first question will be "is your dog up to date on his/her vaccines??" :joker:
