To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

Thanks @DopeyBadger. I am in the Dopey Challenge Strava group.

Sweet! Glad to have you join us! Starting a training journal is a great idea. I have no doubt this community will rally around you and your journey!

Here's some other threads that you might find useful here:

The Running Thread - The #1 source of running information on the DIS. Everyone cheers each other on their upcoming races and shares their experiences whether they're new to running or an old vet. The Question of the Day (QOTD) provides a place for everyone to give their running knowledge. It moves fast, but the second post has all the previous QOTDs as links. Just jump in and start answering questions!

Marathon Weekend 2018 - Specific information for those running Marathon Weekend in 2018. As it gets closer to race weekend, the traffic will pick up significantly. Corrals, waivers, dining reservations, fast passes, and most importantly the scheduled DIS meetings that everyone is welcome to attend.

Official Dopey 2018 - Even more specific to those running Dopey in 2018.

The ball they gave us was like kicking a brick. I took some air out of it, but it's still not a high quality ball. My wife always likes to say I'm a delicate butterfly. :butterfly
No one wants to kick a brick. Especially not when you have to go running or ran earlier.

(Back to the initial Dilema of the marathon in 7 weeks or an alternative) - The Bigger obstacle here is that we are abroad on a sun holiday from Fri 4th - Fri 11th Aug -I'm ok with running during this holiday but would really want to limit the impact on the Holiday itself

Working on the plan at the moment and had a follow-up question: You want to limit the running from 8/4 (Fri) to 8/11 (Fri) with that weekend being RnR Ireland with your daughter (8/13). Are you opposed to doing a 2.5 hr run on Thursday (8/3)? Otherwise, I can make this stay at the 2hr Thursday cap.

Thoughts?

She's normally a very social person talking to everyone. She just carries on and on. Not sure what to think about it.

Any chance she's just nervous that she won't be good/might get teased? I used to coach and a lot of kids who are new at the sport brood until they do something "good" that gets cheered for.

Sorry to hear about the foot, but super excited to hear about your time trial!

It's possible. Thankfully there isn't much teasing at the class. But she did say "Soccer is for babies" and "I can't do this, I'm not any good" and "I want to play over there away from everyone else"

Sorry to hear about the foot

Thanks, it'll just take time to heal if I'm right on the cause.

but super excited to hear about your time trial!

New news on that front... which leads me to...

Bunny Head 5k Time Trial

So the 10-day forecast is up for Saturday, May 20th. Unfortunately it looks like spring/summer will finally arrive as the temps are going to creep up. So next weekend will be roughly 20 degrees (using T+D) higher than this weekend, plus higher wind, plus possible rain. It's really too early to be concerned about what the weather will actually be, but this weekend on the other hand is looking great!

Saturday, May 13th appears to be T+D of 95, cloudy, and almost no wind. Almost perfect conditions for an impromptu time trial. And since I don't have to adhere to any specific race schedule, I've moved the time trial from next weekend to this weekend. Which means zoom, here it is... the Daniels 10k Phase 4: Racing!

Unofficial 5k.jpg

So I plan to run my first time trial on Saturday. I've attached my satellite mapped out 5k course (ignore the projected finish time, that was actually random). I feel fairly confident that the accuracy of this will be within 1% of 3.11 miles and I'll make sure to run past 3.11 miles if the Garmin disagrees with my satellite assessment. However, if I hit 3.11 miles before my satellite estimated finish line, then I'll keep running to my projected spot.

Since this is a sudden addition, no one else will be running with me. G and grandma might come to watch (Steph works), but we'll see.

To accommodate this change in schedule, I didn't do the Q2 run today and instead did an easy run. I'll do another easy run tomorrow and then race on Saturday.

I'm excited! Anyone got any guesses as to finish time?

Current PR - 21:02
Projected PR at beginning of cycle (because of course crowding at Disney start) - 20:15
Goal at beginning of cycle - 19:59
Standard 2% gains in ability from a Daniels 10k training plan - 19:51
5k race equivalent for 2:59:59 marathon - 18:45
HR predicted 5k pace - 17:08-17:38 (ummm, yea right....)

So what's your guess?

What weather site do you use that gives you predicted dew points?

When looking at the visual of the 10-day forecast, click "customize" and it will give you the option of adding dew point to the graph.
