To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

I'm guessing you'll want this in min/km and km as distance? I can make that work, if that's what you would prefer.
Yeah Klm's would suit better but i'll work with miles too - I'm old enough to remember how to convert!

I have one training plan I'm currently writing. I have 6 other people in the queue in the process of answering questions. So, dependent on when I get answers from others is when I'll fit you in. If I hear nothing from anyone else, then you're next up. If others answer and are ready to be written, then they'll go back ahead. My hope is to have something to you by this weekend, but I have to see how the week goes.
Would appreciate any help you can give. :)

One of the worst kinds of injury is the one where you didn't even know you did anything wrong. Something is up with my left foot. It's got a small bruise and is sore to the touch. Theory-

a) Bug bite
b) Soccer practice
c) Injury caused by Freedom ISO

I've had something similar in the past (about 2 years ago) when I first bought Ride 7 shoes. A small bruise developed every time I wore those shoes and eventually after 40 miles I had to scrap them (no matter how many different ways I tried to tie them). I can't be positive the Freedoms are causing a similar problem, but I might put them on the shelf for a few weeks and see if it disappears. My guess is the Freedom caused a small issue and then kicking a soccer ball around aggravated it. We'll see.

LOL, would it help if I said this is a parent/kid class? Which means the only person she'd kick in the shins is me... :D I'm hopeful it goes better tonight.
I feel like you should be wearing shin guards but it's probably better if she saves that for kids her own age.

That stinks. Did you wear any other shoes you don't normally wear? Sometimes I wear a pair of shoes that fits differently and while it doesn't immediately bother me it gets aggravated by my running shoes.

You are not making me thing that the Freedoms are worth a try. :)

I did just run in my first Kinvara 7s this morning (I usually buy the old styles until I can't find them anymore) and they were good I thought. The changes didn't bother me and they seemed still like a good choice for me.

:lmao: Probs should save the kicking in the shins for others. Although if the rest of the classes are like last night, then we won't have to worry too much since she barely kicked the ball at all. Some sort of pouting thing, still trying to figure out what the issue is, but I think it has to do with being around other kids and trying to make friends or something.

I did buy a new pair of daily shoes, but I've had those for maybe a month now.

Right! I don't think I'm selling them very well. Trust me, I want to like them. I'm hopeful the bruise is a coincidence and not caused by the Freedoms. Not ready to give up on them yet.

:woohoo: That's great to hear! I've got some lined up for purchasing on runningwarehouse.com whenever the price drops. Looks like women's are $54.30 with coupon code "FB15D" and lots of sizes/colors to choose from.

I'm hopeful to still try the Kinvara 8's tonight (because we've got perfect weather conditions cool, cloudy, no wind and a hard workout tonight). I really want to see what these shoes can do once before the first time trial.

If there's one thing I have learned about running shoes over the decades, it's that the perfect shoe for one person might be horrible for another. My Freedom ISOs have worked very well for me, and I love them. If you are looking for a fairly low-weight shoe with minimal structure and medium (but awesome) cushioning, I think they are worth a try.

It's very true! Just because they might not be the shoes for me doesn't mean they might not be the perfect shoe for someone else! Very individualistic experiences!

That's good to hear. I may yet try them, just being a cheapskate to spend full price when I'm unsure. I love my Kinvaras, but have often though a better cushion would be good for longer distance races and with Dopey coming up in January, I'm especially thinking it could be a smart investment.

Well, if you are looking for great cushioning for long runs, I would suggest you try the Adidas Ultra Boost ST. They are the shoes I use for my long runs, and I can't say enough good things about them. I know, I know... Adidas for running. Trust me, they are amazing! They are a little heavier than the Freedom ISOs, but it is worth it for the extra cushioning on longer runs. Also, they are slightly less expensive than the Freedom ISOs.

ETA: oops, just realized that the Ultra Boost STs are $20 more expensive, not less expensive. Sorry. Anyway, they are really good.

Thank you @DopeyBadger for tipping me off about this forum. I'll be following your blog and hopefully will make it all the way to the end in one piece.
I might even do my own blog.

:welcome:

Thanks for joining in! Let me know if you have any questions. Is this by chance my brother's friend running at Marathon Weekend in 2018?

Aww! I hope she is able to work through it.

It could also be related to soccer. I played organized soccer for two years. The first year I took a soccer ball to the face in practice. Having not learned my lesson that soccer hates me, I gave it another try a few years later and proceeded to record my lone assist in my soccer career, but only after the ball hit me where it counts and wound up in the net after it ricocheted off my body to a teammate who scored. :crutches:

Suffice it to say, I finally learned my lesson and have not willingly played soccer since.

Yikes! I'll take a hard pass on that scenario. I guess at least your team scored... o_O
It's entirely possible it was because of soccer. The ball they gave us was like kicking a brick. I took some air out of it, but it's still not a high quality ball. My wife always likes to say I'm a delicate butterfly. :butterfly

My HR data suggests a 5k of 17:19-17:48 (5:35-5:44 min/mile) which is just insanely fast. I'm having a really hard time fathoming that.
You are SOO FAST! I can't quite fathom how that would even feel... I'm going to stop thinking about it.
This is just awesome! I'm very excited for you!

G is so super cute! And Lucy too!

Some sort of pouting thing, still trying to figure out what the issue is
Maybe G just has to warm up to the whole soccer/group scenario? I was enrolled in ballet when I was about 4 or 5, and I would apparently cry and carry on. My theory is that I was very shy and didn't want to be left alone with all of those strangers! At some point, I decided to try ballet again a few years later and kept it up through college. Maybe it just has to be on her terms. :)

Oh no! Maybe ice it? Did one of the other kids step on your foot during this soccer extravaganza? :scratchin I hope it feels better quickly!

Well let's pump the breaks until we see how the actual time trial goes. But yea, I agree that's crazy fast and not something I ever imagined possible.

Thanks!

It's possible. She's normally a very social person talking to everyone. She just carries on and on. Not sure what to think about it. The other thought we have is that she isn't the alpha dog and thus is pouting for some reason because of it. At the end of the day we are just going to try and be patient. Whatever the issue is will hopefully work it's way out.

Oh no! Maybe ice it?

Most definitely been doing that throughout the day.

Nope, no kids got anywhere close to me as I was about a hundred feet away with G. Feeling pretty confident it's the shoes now since I felt the inside of them this evening and there is a bump in the design that was pinching my foot (similar to the Ride 7s).

Speaking of which, @opusone do you happen to wear 10.5 in Freedom ISOs and would you have any interest in these shoes for a reduced price? With the caveat that I will gladly reaccept them back if you feel like they have a manufacturer defect. No rush.

Also wanted to add - Kinvara 8s might be the best shoe I have ever worn. That initial feeling I got at the running store was fulfilled throughout the entire run today. It could be the perfect shoe for me.

Unfortunately, I wear an 11 in the Freedom ISOs; otherwise, I would take you up on your offer in a heartbeat. Sorry they don't seem to be working out for you.

No worries, it happens. I can try and take them back to the running store to see what we can do.
