To go meal from table service??

A little off topic, but does anyone know if you can order to go at the Plaza Inn- as it is counter service, not table. Like a chicken dinner to go... :)

Yes, I have done this. We ordered two chicken dinners to go. They served them on plastic plates with plastic domes cinched over. Last time we did this, we took our dinners to watch the swing dancers at Plaza Gardens (where they haven't been for months now), so it's been a while since we have ordered to-go from Plaza Inn. Another nearby place that will package to-go is Pizza Port. We have enjoyed getting food from there and eating it out in the hub while waiting for the fireworks.

I totally agree. The "system" is set to tip based on what you order.

I agree. The prices are so inflated and the restaurants so busy I guarantee you those servers are grateful for it all and not cursing the 'table of one' or the 'dessert only' folks. If you order a $6 dessert and water and take up the table for an hour, yes, I think your server deserves more than $1 or even $2 (of course). But a Monte Cristo is $17. I'm sure they're happy to make the standard (in my book) 20% tip to slide yours in a box, which probably frees up the table for their next guests sooner anyway.

It's sad to think but I bet a lot of DL guests are foreign (or just plain cheap) and don't tip them at all. Which does not mean anyone else has the right to tip them less, but just in the big picture I think they're ok with not everyone feeling like they need to spend a lot or tip on a huge bill, regardless of what they spent. :)

Mary09, I wish it was like that and it should be like that but honestly and sadly, as a manager I battle the self-serving attitude that creeps into server's minds and it's happened at all the restaurants I've worked at. And my friends and colleagues complain about the same thing. I just feel compelled to expose this side of it for some reason. Having known hundreds of servers, I can say that 99% of them are not okay with a less than standard tip.

Now on the flip side, I believe that when sitting down a minimum of 15% should be left (rude service 8% and a complaint to the manager) and I believe that tourists should learn the standard tipping practice to where they are traveling. Just writing this all out makes me crave vacation even more! I cannot wait to just be concerned about my own behavior!...And the kids too I guess ;-)
