I don't eat a whole lot at buffets, never get my money's worth, but I am wondering if I have food left on my plate will they give you a box? It's a strange concept since it could be easily abused, so I'm just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this? Especially if my 5 yr old is in "I don't feel like eating now" mode, and then we get back to the resort and she's starving :)

Sorry, they do not offer "To Go" boxes from buffets at Disney.

Nope, it's not allowed. In fact, that's one reason why we only do 1 character meal in a 10 day trip, because my kids are way too distracted to actually eat. We end up buying snacks almost immediately afterward. To me, the meal is not worth the hassle.

That's why they say the buffets are "all you care to eat". It's just for what you eat at that meal, no doggy bags.

Unless you are "creative". I once saw a guest wrap 8 cookies in a Crystal Palace cloth napkin and stick them in her purse. Some people have no problem making their own rules.:confused3

It's official: I cancelled Boma and replaced with The Wave. Buffets at Disney just aren't a good value for me. I'll still do Chef Mickey's for breakfast though, the characters make it worth it!!

You're right on the money with your approach. I also had to make the decision that it was the atmosphere / entertainment / character interaction and to a certain extent, the quality and/or variety of the buffet food that I am paying for. My reasons for not doing a buffet should be the same as yours as we are not huge eaters, neither are we meat eaters. But buffets do work for me because of the variety so I know that while we may not eat as much as many other guests could manage, we do eat what we enjoy - and yes, more than we would usually consume. It's really how you look at it that makes the difference. No restaurant to me is ONLY about the food - but Disney restaurants, particularly character and signature dining experiences are a whole lot more complex as they are just that: dining experiences. It looks like you made the right choice for your needs though. Have a great trip!

They won't mind if you take something like a piece of fruit or one pastry, and Boma always offers you an extra cup of coffee after breakfast. But in general, no, they won't give you a to-go box.

Our waitress at Tusker House actually suggested that we grab a piece of fresh fruit to take with us. We each took a banana for breakfast the next morning. :goodvibes But, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it without the suggestion.

I would say the exception to this I've found has been with the kids.

My child fell asleep one time at Crystal Palace and the server brought us a container and had us put food in for them.

Also, my son has a special diet and the chefs all prepare him his meals specially - if he doesn't finish it all, we have always asked for a box and the server has brought it. Sometimes this is buffet places but we aren't going up and filling it from the buffet, we are just taking back to the room what is on his plate. This wasn't a problem at multiple restaurants.

It's about a reasonable bending of the rules, taking a single muffin to eat to go, is one thing, taking a box full of chicken wings is completely different.

The server did offer to arrange a to-go-box for our DD2 as we were eating a little early for her and she hardly ate a bite of her plate. It was not a large amount of food. So I would have to agree that I think the exception may be with the little ones. We sure appreciated it! :)

It could be easily abused

1) The statement is slightly in error.
2) It is not that it "could" be abused.
3) It is that it "WOULD" be abused.

4) I can see it now,
. . . everyone has eaten
. . . their bellies are so full, the belt is one more notch
. . . they return to the buffet line one more time
. . . the food is piled 4" above the plate
. . . and they ask for a doggie bag

:rolleyes1

No, they don't allow to-go boxes at buffets. However, DS3 fell asleep at Biergarten dinner last month, just before we entered the restaurant. He stayed asleep throughout the entire meal (hadn't napped that day for some reason), and the waitress suggested we take his mac 'n' cheese to go, but she gave us a to-go coffee cup for it. Of course, he woke up about 10 minutes after we left the restaurant! :rotfl: At least he got to eat! We thought it was very nice of her to suggest this for us!

We went to a buffet last year and I didn't eat much and the server noticed. He said it would be fine if I packaged up several small, non messy items to take with me. I thought that was really really nice of him.
We've also had servers suggest that we take a piece of fruit or several cookies with us to eat "at the parade" or "to eat while you walk to your next ride"......

It's not posted anywhere that they offer doggy bags but we've found many servers generously suggesting that it's ok to take a nibble or two with you when you leave.

My college-age DS and I were at Cape May very late one night. We were one of the last tables seated for the night. By the time we got to dessert we were so tired we could not even think. It wasn't that we were full, we were just exhausted. Our server came over, noted our glazed eyes, and offered us to-go boxes for our desserts. We were surprised and grateful. We never would have asked.

Hey, I think that was me! :rotfl:
Although I wrapped them in a paper napkin, not a cloth one. I LOVE those cookies and they made a fantastic midnight snack back at the resort.

Judge if you must.
