I'm looking at starting out w/ either Jenny Craig or BistroMD.

Does anyone have any comments for or against either (or know of something better)?

I have just shy of 100 lbs to loose.

TIA!

I just typed up a pretty lengthy response and it went poof. That happened last night too. Since I am having bad luck responding to you, I am going to ask a few questions before I type out my response again and then learn that I am out in left field.

Are you willing to cook your own meals?

Do you live by yourself. I.e., are you cooking for children, etc?

Is there any particular reason why you are interested in those two programs? I know of Jenny Craig, but I hadn't heard of BistroMD so I did a Google search. I see that they are somewhat similar.

I will respond to you. I think the best thing to do is to type of a response in Word and then use cut and paste.

Best of luck on your journey to a healthier new you!

I started Jenny Craig in the beginning of March this year, and so far I have lost 35 pounds and I have about 10 to 15 to go. The main reason I love Jenny Craig is because every week when I go and weigh in, I come home with most of all the food I need to succeed for the week, I found it easy because it is all done for you, all I needed to do was follow the weekly planned menu (or plan your own menu). I had tried weight watchers before, and I just couldnt do their program, I needed something effortless. As far as cost, it is expensive, initially it was $275 to join the program for one year and then there is a $50 yearly renewal. In the beginning my food for the week would be around $120 and now I spend about $80 (I started using my own salad dressing, cereals, and I do have days when I will eat the meals I prepare for my family). Every week you go and meet with your Jenny Craig consultant to weigh in, and she discusses with you how your week went. The Jenny Craig program changed my life this year for me. The food also tastes really good too.

Thanks for your response, CC.

I live by myself so no having to worry about food for others. I am now (ugh) 100 lbs overweight. I have crappy cholesterol numbers and am pre-diabetic. I KNOW I need to do something now.

I'm not tied into JC or BistroMD, but am looking for something that has the meals already included - I figure that'll be better for me cuz then I won't have to go to the grocery store. I have been dealing w/ depressing & have an eating disorder, so if I can avoid the temptations in the store it's probably for the best.

I appreciate any input :goodvibes

Thanks, LJRJR!

I was trying to get an idea of the costs for JC--they don't have anything about that on their website. I have a coupon for 20lbs for $20 (plus food, of course) so thought that might be a good way to jump start my weight loss. Good to know the food tastes good too! That's important to keep one on program.

WAY TO GO on your weightloss!! :cool1::woohoo:

The 20 pounds for $20 would be a great way to see if you like it. I was going to go for that when I first signed up, but they ended up talking me into the full membership, which gave me 1/2 off my first week of food, plus I got $50 back when I got to my 1/2 way goal (and they did give me the $50 when I got there) and then when I reach my goal and maintain, I also get more money back. But, I would definatly go and try it for $20 and see if you like it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

It sounds like you are definitely interested in a program where you buy pre-packaged meals. There seems to be more accountability with Jenny Craig than with BistroMD as you weigh in and talk to someone weekly. I was going to Weight Watchers meetings and that was the biggest pro for me. I am doing WW online now for a few reasons, but the big one is that the only meeting near me is not a great time and on top of that, the leader is not that motivating. Here are some other suggestions:

- There are some great exercise routines in magazines like Health or fitness, etc. My library has them and I can check them out for 1 week.
- Join the Biggest Loser Challenge on the WISH boards.
- Keep a WISH journal. I'll be happy to read it and respond to you. If you aren't comfortable journaling online, use a notebook. I find it so important to take notice of things like
- Am I eating because I'm hungry or angry?
- Did I eat a lot of something because I liked it or was I hungry?
- Should I have eaten more for the day?
- How much exercise I did get in for the day?

Best of luck!
