To Bank, Borrow or Use!? (Oh my!)

If someone (Ok, me!) wanted to buy DVC, (someday!) but purchase as few points as possible (like a resale from TSS), would it be worth it to do something like this and buy about 75 points to do a 2 BR at OKW, (or 225 points if you bank/use/borrow)

Also, I don't get the purchasing points to match reservation thing either. Don't you guys sometimes have a few lingering leftover points that you lose, or are you always playing the math game and trying to bank and borrow

Then, if you have a number in mind, (because your DH has it set in his mind for you just how often he thinks you should go) but, you see a decent price for say, 80 pts or whatever, do you just go for it, and then just give (transfer) your extra few every year if you don't need them?

Because I don't think you can buy something like 72.666 points!

Here is a scenario
Bank 2007
Use 2008 - to go to WDW
Borrow 2009

Bank 2010
Use 2011 - to go to WDW
Borrow 2012

and so on... Or - just rent points? Note: kids are pretty much grown, 26/18/15 yrs old - but my grand-babies are 5, 4, and 17 months!

(We just fell in love with OKW, I appreciated being on your balcony, but I would love it even more if it was "mine" too!)

I will - later though! gotta ease my DH into it, and if I can spend around $5-6000 and only a few hundred for maintenance fees, he may just agree...

First of all, if you do find yourself with just a few leftover points, there are people who need just a few to complete a reservation. Post them on the rent/trade forum.

I worried at first about leftover points as well but I eased my mind by just figuring what it costs me per year, then compare that with what my other lodging options are. For us, we travel every other year, 2br for 9-10 nights. For two years combined costs, we are spending just a little more for the 2br villa compared to 2 rooms at a value resort for the time we are traveling. I do have a few points I will bank, and that might get me another night next time. If it doesn't, oh well. I have other DVC friends who may need them for their stay. My DVC is still a value even if I don't use every single point.

Thanks for easing my mind. I really hope that I will be able to afford going every other year, rather than every third year! In the meantime, I will keep readin' the boards and learning all I can!
