I've just set up my account with selftrade and just want to check with anyone who has done it before that I can actually go and pay money in and buy my shares now? It says this

You now need to:

Send us one original statement, less than 3 months old, from your nominated bank account showing your name and address.
If you have nominated an internet bank account, we will accept a statement on which the bank's logo, your account number, plus your name and address are displayed. Should any of this information be missing, please supply one of the following:

A letter from the bank confirming your account number.
A cheque from the account crossed through with 'VOID'

Enter the Address Verification Code you received with the Welcome Pack.

You have 30 days to use the code and send in the bank statement or other requested documentation otherwise we'll lock your account. You can validate your account either by entering the code when you log into your account or by calling Customer Services.

Until your account is validated and the bank statement or other requested documentation received, £9000.00 is the maximum amount that you can pay into your account.

So I'm taking that to mean that as long as I'm not buying more than £9000 worth of shares I can do it now and I don't need to wait until I have entered the code etc? Is this right?

Sorry if I'm being daft here, it's just I was trying to open an account with them for DD's CTF and although it all looked to be ok online but they hadn't opened the account so I just want to make sure that this is what's supposed to happen and that people have done this before and it's all went through ok.

This is correct, I bought my shares as soon as I opened the dealing account, simply by crediting funds using a debit card. I then received the code in the post to 'validate' my account, and you have to send your bank statement too, I just sent one page and this was fine (received it back today in the post as it happens).

You mention CTF though, not sure if that's what you plan on using to buy shares, but mine is just a regular adult dealing account.

I reckon now is a very good time to buy, almost wish I had waited a few weeks myself, just don't look at it as an investment

Thanks that's great. No for these shares it's a dealing account I've opened. I tried opening a CTF last week and got the forms back today saying they couldn't open one. After checking with them it's because they ran a credit check on my name with my DD's (one year old) date of birth :rotfl:

I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy them the other day though as they were at least €2 cheaper :sad2: but hey it's still a good price :thumbsup2

Wow, I've not seen them cheaper than €5, I paid about €6.92 which is quite a bit more than they are now! I'm still glad I went for it when I did though, as we leave for DLP in 10 days and I was hoping we would receive our shareholders card on time - it arrived a couple of days ago :thumbsup2 (I know you can take the temporary letter they send you on request, but I felt I'd be happier with the actual card).

I've found it's worth having the shares purely for the incredulous look on people's faces, when you tell them you have shares in DLP

:rotfl: I can imagine. I've had many people  eye rolling  at me when I've told them I'm buying them. We will definitely save money though, so well worth it

My DH thought I had taken leave of my senses, considering buying any shares the way the market is right now, he said I could kiss the money goodbye, that I was throwing it away, etc.

Some people just don't get it, do they? :rotfl:
