Evening! Things have been hectic around here with DH out of town. He was suppose to come home next weekend but now his boss is saying he has to stay since he took off last weekend. Of course, the people making these decisions are sitting home with their families every night. I'd like to see one of them spend weeks at a time away from home.

Imagine my surprise tonight when I click on our local paper online and Jon Gossilin makes the front page because he's dating some girl from here. I don't know what's wrong with that man but he needs a swift kick in the BUTT.

MK, take a few deep breaths. Everything will be just fine. How about you let us all be nervous for you?

Marie, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Your DD sounds like mine. I don't think she has ever met a person she didn't like. Everybody is her friend instantly.

Pikester, congrats on getting free dining. You'll have to let me know how the quick service plan is. I really like that option.

Wendy, sorry I missed you but I hope you have a wonderful trip. Don't forget the pictures of all the hotties in their kilts.

Professor Sugar Mama Shmu, congrats on the success at school. And give your DS a hug because that has to be one of the sweetest things I have ever heard. I would love for this to be an annual trip and eventually get everyone there at the same time.

Racetrack, that sux about your DH and his job. Don't they know that you have lovely kids at home? At the very least, he should have every other weekend off. Happy workers make happy work. Is he in Kentucky? How far of a drive is it?

I saw some stuff about Jon Gosselin on tv tonight. That "man" is a dog. He's being totally selfish and stupid about how he's treating his family. At the very least, when it comes to custody, he's not painting a very good father figure!

Yeah, back in Kentucky. It's about 11 hours from here. And it's a place in the middle of nowhere so it just makes the days even longer.

He sure is a dog. I find it kind of shocking since he was the one that I liked. But Kate is looking better and better with his behavior.

LITC, sorry I missed you. Take it easy and hope you feel better soon.

Good evening peeps!

racetrack: Totally stinks about DH! Are the kids behaving for you?
I will let you know about the QS. The guys are looking forward to more time spent on rides and less time sitting around waiting for our food. I hope it works out for us.

Magikitty: I would be so overwhelmed getting ready for Millionaire! So cool about your friend going to be there. Oh yeah, Kids!

LITC: Sorry to hear that your wrist is hurting. :sad1:

Well, I spent the evening helping my Mom pick out outfits for her up coming cruise. She will be going in a little over 2 weeks! She has a list to take with her tomorrow when she goes shopping of things that I think she needs to have.

DH and DS11 are watching the original Friday the 13th. :scared1: They are watching it on the Spike channel and although it's kind of tense the channel is not showing any of the gore. It's making it really weird to watch. Lots of hahahaha and chachachacha but no blood. Oh and I didn't realize that Kevin Bacon was in it!

Kids behaving? You got to be kidding. :rotfl2: We are home now, they don't need to behave anymore. :lmao:

I imagine it would be strange to watch a gory horror movie on regular tv. I didn't realize Kevin Bacon was in it. It's been that long since I've seen that movie.

We might be going camping again but this time over by Six Flags in Jersey. Now I have to keep my fingers crossed that there are any campsites available next month.

Not sure what Jersey is like but here in NH the campgrounds are empty. Saw a story on our local news where they were interviewing businesses that count on tourists and they are having a bad time due to the crappy weather.

When we went over the weekend, it seemed pretty crowded to me. Of course, we were there over the weekend so that might have made the difference. Maybe I should look into going during the week. The park might be less crowded too.

I still can't believe it's summer. I don't think we have more than a week total of hot weather.

I thought the campground was pretty crowded too. Racetrack, when are you planning to go? Wendy lives very close to Great Adventure....she may not be able to give you campground advice, but maybe she knows someone who can!

This summer has totally been a bust weather-wise. We totally got lucky last weekend...

The weather has been horrible! Everytime the weather man shows the 5 day forecast it'll show days in the 80s but it never seems to get here.

DH took the kids to Hampton Beach last Sunday. We're talking an ocean beach and he saw signs posted on all the rental properties with dates available. That is very rare.

MK, I've been using Wendy's city as a jumping off point to search. I've found 2 places that look promising with cabins, of course. Smaller but the still have the all important beds and indoor plumbing. :rotfl:

I was planning on the weekend of August 21st or so, I think that's the last weekend before school starts.

Pikester, wow! availability at the shore? It could be the economy too. Certainly don't want to waste what little money they do have at the beach when the weather stinks.

Racetrack, I totally agree about the cabin! You totally made camping look like fun!

And to think I was going to buy tents and attempt it that way. :rotfl2:

I honestly didn't think I would like it at all. But when we went back on Sunday after dinner, DH started a fire and we all just sat around outside talking and relaxing. At home, there is always so much to get done that we don't have much time to sit together. It was nice.

Night Pikester!!!!

I think I'm out of here for tonight.

MK, keep reading those books and I'll catch you tomorrow!!!

Night!

I've got to clarify something! My birthday is not until the 31st. Oh well, some of you will already have the jump on wishing me a happy birthday. :lmao:

Pikester, I don't blame you for seeing if the free dining will work out for you. Gotta save where you can! I have read lots of people saying that some of the other plans are just way too much food anyway. I considered the Spirit of Aloha briefly but it does not seem to get very good ratings. Plus I don't think my kids would like the items on the menu. Hoop De Doo sounds right up our alley... somewhat corney. I am hoping it is somewhat like the Billy Hill Show at DL. The menu also looked to be more to our liking as well.
Ewww! Friday the 13th is too scary for me! Of course, when I was a teenager I went through the stage of watching scary movies but not anymore. I saw some real doosies. How about ya'll?

Magikitty, it sounds like your nephew is really putting you to the test! Is he always like this or just recently? I hope he pulls himself together during the trip so you don't have to waste your Millionaire energy on keeping him in line. Don't you sound all important now with your very own producer! Those were some pretty amazing odds you have beaten. Now lets see you beat the odds and get that million!
So, you are a fellow doll lover. What kind do you collect? Any favorite artists? I used to collect a good many. When we built our house and moved most of my collection ended up in boxes and 5 years later the poor babies have still not found their way out. For awhile I even spent some time making porcelain dolls but after my DD came along my doll making kinda took a nose dive. There was also a period of time when my mother did sewing for the Daddy Long Leg dolls. She passed along quite a few of those to me which are packed away with everything else. The last phase I went through was adopting antique dolls. I enjoyed making clothes and wigs for the ones that came to me in need of a little TLC. It has been years since I have made it to a doll show but they sure were a lot of fun. I hope you find yourself a nice new dolly.

LivinInTheCastle, I just noticed that you only have about 70 days to go before the little one makes his appearance. I bet you are really getting excited! Hope your wrist gets to feeling better soon.

racetrack18kb, I hope your DH gets to make it home to spend some time with you one of these weekends!
My DD loves most people but she has met a few that she did not like... and believe you me, she will let you know about it! So far it has only been a few little boys that were pretty mean and obnoxious... and one teenage boy who snuck up on her and scared her.
That's just the way my kids are... good in public and totally different here at home. Then, of course, they are are also like totally different children when they are just home with me than when their father is at home too. They have something like a built in switch that changes them from sweet little angels to rowdy crazed monsters!

Good afternoon! I am presently taking a break from learning all about castles and knights. I finished a fantastic book about dinosaurs last night.

Marie, I've always been into dolls. At first, it was largely Barbies, because here in Upstate NY there aren't many specialty doll stores. I especially became interested in collecting dolls with dark hair. As a child, it was either the blond doll or the African-American doll. Those of us shade in between were out of luck. In the 80s, more ethnic dolls started coming out and I started getting them

The doll show we're going to is by Robert Tonner. He specializes in either 18 or 24 inch dolls, mainly popular culture like Gone with the Wind, Comic book character. He also makes movie dolls, like the Harry Potter and Twilight series. I'd really like to get the Cho Chang doll, but with saving up for vacation, I don't know if I'll be able to get anything next week.

I'm going to be taping Millionaire on my Dad's birthday--he's the 30th. We'll just celebrate your birthday month!

Racetrack, I'm totally into that firepit. It was really nice. I'm glad you went with the cabin. Maybe one day we're check out the cabins at Disney....

Kitty! This is all so amazing!!! I'm not on here much, so I've missed so much! But, I knew I caught something about you and Millionaire, so I've been skimming back thru to find some info. When are the auditions/taping/ however far you've gotten? Its so exciting!

I can't help w/ much of this, but I do know a little about tv... here's some suggestions for your outfit that might help...

Avoid white. Avoid black. If you want to wear something that will look like either of those, choose a deep grey or a cream/ivory instead. Television has trouble reading extremes. I would stay away from bright red, sometimes it "tears" on tv... (looks kind of like its bleeding outside of its lines.) Also avoid very small patterns or tiny lines (nothing like houndstooth patterns.) These have a tendency to "moray (sp?)" on camera, or look like they are moving and vibrating. Hope that might help you narrow it down! Might avoid having an outfit slashed by a producer.

Until then... Good Luck!!!
Evening ladies!

Have a great trip Wendy! Can't wait to hear all about it....

Pikester....congrats on free dining! Honestly, BF and I would consider changing our plans to go later in the year, its that amazing. But we've already bought our plane tickets, so we can't change anything.

Happy Birthday Marie! I don't blame you at all for getting out and enjoying your special day! I do hope doggie is feeling ok.

Seriously, my nephew will be the end of me. He's in Georgia with the rest of my brother's family. I just got the call that he lost both his phone and his wallet. He needs his ID to get on the plane to meet me in the city on Wednesday! So tomorrow I have to break into my brother's house, get my nephew's passport and express mail it to him in Georgia. He is indebted up to his eyeballs to me.

Millionaire stuff is going well. Went to the library this evening and took out a bunch of kids books. Its all the "Everything you ever wanted to know about...." kind of stuff. Desperate times for desperate measures. Originally, the car service was to take me back upstate immediately after the taping, but I asked to change it to the following morning. I'll stay at my sister's after the show and just meet the car to go back. My friend is coming up from Maryland Wednesday and I'm hoping to get him a ticket to be in the audience.

He's really not coming to cheer me on, its was just serendipity. He was planning to come visit that weekend anyway, we have a doll show on Saturday. He's lucky he's getting a free ride upstate with me. I'm hoping to win enough money to buy myself a new doll!

Working on my outfits. I need to bring three, in case the one I want to wear gets vetoed by my producer. Everything is such a big deal, its really making me nervous.

Addendum: I just read the official rules. I am presently FREAKING OUT! According to the paperwork, (are you ready for this?)
120,000/day attempted the phone audition
3% of 120,000 would get all 5 questions right (3600 people)
3600 X 11 days of auditions= 39600 persons eligible for Millionaire
55 people chosen!

Its a miracle I got this far!

Hey there Lighttech! How are you and the boys doing?

Yes, I'm going to be on Millionaire. I'm one of the five finalists for my show day. Its really beginning to freak me out.

Quick synopsis: I saw the commercial for open auditions, called the number, tried to answer all five questions, had some problems with people, got all questions right and waited to be called. And they did! I was chosen! They're sending a car service for me on Wednesday, putting me up in a hotel and I tape the next day.

Thanks so much for the tips on tv! The winning outfit so far is a blue/white number, far more blue though. My skirt does have flowers on it, but my sweater is a solid blue color with white accents.

I forgot to say that I tried to break into my brother's house today to retrieve my nephew's passport. He lost his wallet in Georgia. So, now without ID, he cannot get on the plane to meet me in the City on Wednesday. Unless they find his license, he's not going with me to the show. I have a backup friend who was coming to visit next weekend anyway, so he's been bumped up to Millionaire buddy.

I will admit, I'm upset with my nephew, but I imagine that he's getting raked over the coals pretty well by his parents right now. I take solace in that. But I will yell at him when I see him next.

Kitty that is so cool! Good luck and have a great time! Definitely let us know when the show will air.
The outfit sounds great... I was mostly talking about solid white or solid black. I'm sure you will look beautiful!
I hope you win big! (I remembered that I have to specify "big." Wasn't it you a few years ago that mentioned that you have to remember to be more specific b/c you won the lottery... about $7 or something! :rotfl:)

Enjoy your moment! How exciting!

Can I have a turn to rant this afternoon?!! I got up this morning with plans to go to one of the Jiu-Jitsu academy's kid's tournaments. My DD is not taking class anymore but my DS LOVES helping out with the kids class so he always goes to help out as a ref. Anyway, I got up before everyone else and started having a nose bleed which I could not get to stop. I manage to get everyone else up and ready but I was just wanting to stay home in case it starts up again. DD has no concept of anyone else but herself so she does not want to miss out on seeing her friends. DS and DH both suggest I "give it a try" and can always slip out of the room if I need to even though I would prefer to bleed in the comfort of my own home. I give in so as not to cause any discontent among the others in the household. So as I head to the car my nose starts up again. Apparently, I needed to have a full flow of blood to convince anyone that I was seriously having a problem. DD did immediately decide it would be okay if she and I stayed home and the men folk finally agreed as well so they went on without us. Thankfully, it appears to have finally stopped. What I want to know is why do moms have to be practically incapacitated to finally get anyone to give them a little bit of sympathy? Guess I will forgive them though, at least they are bringing home lunch so I don't have to cook.

MagiKitty, I am pretty out of touch so I imagine there are all kinds of new artists out there now but I do remember the Robert Tonner dolls. I am like you and don't always prefer the blondes. I tend to lean towards the ones that are a bit unique. As I mentioned I have quite a few Daddy Long Legs which are mostly black dolls. And I have another collection of little old folks that were done for Richard Simmons. Aside from that I have quite a few baby dolls. I used to have a huge built in case but I don't have nearly as much space to display them now. Keep talking dolls though and maybe you will inspire me to pull some of them out of storage!
Can't wait to see your Millionaire debut! Maybe taping on dad's birthday will bring you good luck.
