A few questions re:wedding. Is it far? Do you have to make extraordinary arrangements to attend? Is it an open bar? (the last sounds funny, but could be a make or break factor)

I guess it depends on how important your Mom's opinon is. I would probably go just to keep the peace, drink on their tab, and to make fun of people. And even if they are sucky people, its may be important to your family to be included in these torturous shindigs. You can always bail out early.

In my experience, those kind of weddings where they want to be impressive and show off are usually the most stressful. Its great to watch people have breakdowns and have their hopes dashed. Its never a perfect wedding and that's the fun of it.

And definitely get a smokin dress!

Its not too far from our house and no extraordinary arrangements have to be made. (Kids are even invited - but that means a bigger gift)
Pretty sure its open bar. On the invite it says cocktails at 4pm.

Cocktails are good. Impressive that the kids are invited too. I would lean towards going, just to keep things good with the family, being the bigger better person. You still have time to decide. See how the holidays play out.

The V button on my netbook isn't working well. You don't realize how much you use a letter unless it starts acting up.

D&D, I would go to the wedding. Between the free cocktails and food and add in what sounds like would be a wonderful people watching opportunity, how can you miss it? Think of the stories you'll have to tell all of us. Ok, I shouldn't be thinking of my personal enjoyment.

You don't want to be the one to cause any family drama. And somewhere it may fall back on the boys.

I agree, go to the wedding since no extra traveling is involved (just a present). I'm with JOCAmom..we need the entertainment. ;) The cocktails should help keep your stress levels down. :cool2:

MagiKitty hope you are feeling better. :flower3:

Frustrated with Walmart. Wrote them a complaint letter. Tried to get the price adjustment on Toy Story 3. Even brought in a printout of the advertised price on walmart .com. Wouldn't give me my money back. So returned the DVD. They gave me full price though, with taxes came out to $32. I had used a coupon, so I got that money on top of what I paid.

Will have to try to get to Target, but this weather is crappy. THe $8 coupon expires next week.

Irony...went to the casino to get my free play and snacks. Turned $55 in free play into $170 and walked out. More money for Atlantic City!

oh, and I qualified for my free turkey from the grocery store. I think we may go ham this year though.

Thanks Kathy, definitely feeling better, but terribly sluggish earlier. Trying to convince myself to organize my plastic bags right now, but the couch is looking so comfy at the moment.

Not going to be good for people watching. :snooty: Rich, stuck up weddings don't have drama. It's just nauseating.
As far as falling back on the boys, I think this is a little different from your situation. I'm more concerned that the boys will pick up bad messages from these type of people - like how to treat others and how life is not a competition.

Actually, the cocktails might make me a little more daring and vocal than I probably should be.

DH thinks we should go too just to make an appearance so I guess we'll end up going. Just so goes against everything I believe in, you know. :sad2: I so don't like FAKE people.

D...it sounds like you're not going to the wedding. And you shouldn't if you don't want to. But you can also use such bad behaviour and examples as a learning tool also. Especially in these tough times, you can show the boys that having extravagance and showing off is more for other people than for you. You choose to emphasize other values, rightfully so!

Where did you get an $8 coupon for Toy Story? I need one of those.

Woo hoo...on the casino winning again. Can you take me with you sometime???

the coupon is from the Disney Movie Rewards website....http://www.disneymovierewards.go.co...coupon?cmp=dmov_dmr_url_ts3lptw_-coupon_print

Its only good untill the 8th, I think. The best prices are at Target and Best Buy. They're $25 and they have some sort of toy/extra something.

I get $35 in free play every week from the casino. I always try to save them up and go in one big blowout one day, but I always end up playing it, which is dangerous. But I've been lucky. I come out with money usually.

I don't know, D&D, rich people, alcohol, and the need to show off. Could be an interesting time.

It seems as though the rest of your immediate family is going so I think I would just suck it up and make an appearance. It could a wonderful time for you to spend some time with your mom.

Just go with what your heart is telling you though. You can never go wrong that way.

I agree....go with low expectations. Worst thing, they meet them.

And being family, you'll probably get the insider ticket. Get to see all the meltdowns. those are always the best.

And there's alcohol, right? free alcohol?!

Ooo...a wedding in NY. Now that sounds like fun.

I've got a wedding dilema myself and I need help from my TKers...

We've been invited to a family wedding. A cousin of my moms is getting married. This family is VERY well off financially and we used to be quite close to this family when I was growing up. Since then, they have become quite "showy" with their money, very competative, very fake and haven't invited my brother or myself to any other events - just my sister. (red flag #1) If you remember they were the ones who had the b-day party for my mom 2 years ago and didn't invite my brother or me. So now their youngest daughter is getting married and they all of the sudden know who we are and send us an invite. Its this big shindig too. YOu know, the kind where they get married in a church cuz it is big and beautiful but are not religious, 10 wedding attendants, open bar, fancy meal, etc. etc. Anyway, my mom is upset because I said we weren't going to go. My brother & family are going and my sister is one of the 10 attendants, so obviously she's going. I know its going to be nothing but a "competition fest/ money show" and I am not sure I want to continue to have these types of people in my life any more.

So here's my question to you... Should I suck it up, go out and find a totally smokin' dress, and just eat drink and be merry on their dime and play this competion game or should I just take a stand and not go (but risk alienating other family members cuz I didn't show up) ?

Well D, I was going to comment but looks like I am going completely opposite of everyone else so I think I will keep my comments to myself. :rolleyes1
Don't want to sound like to big a witch!!

No, no, no LITC, you have to comment now. And you can't be a big witch around here, that's my job. :lmao:

How are you doing tonight? How's Walter?

Sounds like I'm with LITC on this one...no amount of free alcohol will make up for a horrible night with people I hate. I'm past the age with I care what people think one way or the other.

Just watched Oprah...Teen heart throbs...Shaun Cassidy was on!! It was great, reliving my tween years.:lovestruc

Ev, I was watching it too! I was totally a Backstreet Boy girl. I was singing my heart out. Now I have to get out the CDs....

I think its great the we have different points of view. Don't apologize for anything. For me, as long as I had a means of escape, I'd give it a try.

Well JO, here is a little story on Walter tonight.

We gave Walter a bath, he had the CUTEST curls afterwards so I decided to try and take a picture for his TK aunties:

He really wanted no part in that, all he wanted was the camera. I would not give him the camera so I ended up with this instead:

OK and as for my evil opinion:

My first thoughts were

1. Just dont go screw it, if they threw that other party with out you, they will manage this one without you and you will be happier.

2. (My favorite) RSVP yes, (so they have to pay for the food at the reception) then don't show. :littleangel:

3. Go (for food and free drinks) and don't bring a present.

4. Go and spill red wine on the bride.

OK FLAME ME, I know I am an awful person.....
