So. They are building a Titanic 2 as a tourist attraction but with all the modern safety features. Thing is, this thing has been in construction since 2014. The owner of the company swears blind he will finish it. But is it just pie in the sky? I'm sure I've said this before, but I just came across an "update" on the project.

I think they should do a full re-creation of the entire ship, but don't do voyages on it, just have a docked hotel/"cruise" experience

Titanic II to Set Sail in 2027

In April 2024, Australian billionaire Clive Palmer confirmed plans to launch Titanic II, a near-replica of the original Titanic, with its maiden voyage set for June 2027. Palmer’s company, Blue Star Line, will construct the ship with modern safety systems, updated navigation technology, and increased lifeboat capacity, while preserving original design features like the grand staircase, class-divided cabins, and vintage dining experiences.

The ship will begin its journey from Southampton to New York via Cherbourg, mirroring the Titanic’s intended route. Though construction has been delayed multiple times since first being proposed in 2012, Palmer now claims funding is secured, construction starts in 2025, and the ship will offer historically immersive experiences, including costume dinners and passenger biographies in each cabin.

I know a lot of people have tried and failed. One of the more interesting was the Chinese Titanic themed park with a permanently moored ship that was only partially built and is rotting. If he can get it built and it is priced competitively compared to other cruises of similar length, he may have enough demand (at least for a while).

Titanic and her sisters were beautiful ships. I would love to sail on a ship that had modern safety systems and an Edwardian aesthetic. I might be inclined to skip the maiden voyage though . . .

With all the Titanic talk, this thread might be of some interest:

I thought the fact that there is only a difference of twelve people between a fully loaded Titanic and a fully loaded Magic/Wonder was very interesting.
