My sister and I are flying down to Disney World in January for her 25th birthday. We will be coming from Michigan where it is normally artic cold (we are both praying for a mild winter!). I'm a bit concerned about going from the cold to where its warmer. The last time we went to Disney World in April 2005 we drove, but we both ended up getting sick towards the end, and were really sick once we got back to Michigan where it was 40 degrees! It had been 80-90 degrees in Orlando. I don't want that to happen again.

So for those here who go in winter, what do you do to avoid getting sick when going from one extreme to the other? I've heard of taking Airborne, but does that really work? I just don't want our trip to be spoiled by getting sick. We've done so much planning and it would stink to have it all ruined by getting sick.

So any tips/strategies are greatly appreciated!!!

My best tip for not getting sick at WDW (no matter what time of year!) is to not touch the handrails in the line queues! And bring hand sanitizer in case you do! Have a magical trip!

:cool1: Yes def. some hand sanitizer and I bring Echinacea... Which is the best when you start feeling sick.... have a great time

I am not a pill taker, but I am a BIG believer in Airborne!

I get terrible canker sores in my mouth, I feel them coming on for days and once they erupt they hurt like you-know-what for a couple of weeks. But if I take Airborne two or three times a day when I feel it coming on, the sore only lasts a day or two and doesn't hurt hardly at all.

I am not sure about how well it works to keep you from getting sick (I think frequent hand washing, keeping stress to a minimum, eating balanced meals and getting enough sleep are the four top things to watch) but I just thought I would share my personal testimonial!

Don't think about it and you will not get sick.

Don't worry so much about the outside temperature. Viruses are caused by germs. Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer between washings. Especially make sure everyone washes hands just before meals. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Since you're going during flu season, it wouldn't hurt to get everyone a flu shot before the trip.

Constant hand sanitizer! My twin, my mom and I all call a small bottle in our purses and use it before every meal and throughout the day. There are so many germs floating around the parks that we've found the hand sanitizer to come in handy! :teeth:

hi
just enjoy yourself, if you over wash and sanitize you will never get any immunity to anything! life is too short to worry about changing comforters, cleaning the room with bleach and other rituals. taking a mega garlic capsule will help though, it is a natural antiseptic. :) :thumbsup2

Is hand sanitizer allowed to be carried on the planes with all the new rules and regulations regarding liquids? I normally do bring some with me on vacation since there are so many germs out there in crowded areas and especially after we went to the Dayton airshow in 2003 where they ran out of soap to wash your hands with. Ever since that I make it a point to bring some hand sanitzer with us.

Yes. All liquids have to be put into a ziploc bag, though.

One word: Zicam. I find it works much better than Airborn. Get the ones that come on Q tips and you coat the tips of your nostrils with it.

A clear, quart-size ziploc bag in which everything"fits comfortably," meaning it can close without straining. Each container inside the baggie must be no larger than 3 oz.

I suggest keeping yourself well hydrated, frequent handwashing and keeping your hands away from your eyes. :wave2:
