Tips for going the end of August

1. As many have stated...it's very important to stay hydrated

2. Take a few mid day breaks...a few hours away from the parks simply relaxing by the pool, hanging out in the room, or taking a nap will do wonders for dealing with the heat and humidity.

3. Given the aforementioned humidity...you are going to be sweating your butt off. We always brought extra clothes with the idea that during those mid day breaks we could relax, shower, change into a fresh set of clothes, and head back out to the parks. I have seen many people have to spend time doing laundry because they wound changing clothes frequently because of the humidity.

Thanks everyone for the great advice!!! We will definitely make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks!!

What time does it start cooling off?

I heard there are usually afternoon thunderstorms, about what time would you figure they would occur?

October.

The heat drives the rain cycle. Any time after 2pm ish there can be a storm. But they are usually fast and it won't really spoil your trip, just wait it out.

We are in NJ and are headed down this weekend! We also went in August 2 years ago. It's very hot but you just have to be prepared. I made sure my kids went for lots of walks ahead of time so that they would be prepared for heat and walking. We had bottles of water, cooling towels and misting fans. We wear moisture wicking/light weight clothing. I found the Magic Kingdom to be the most manageable due to the large amount of rides/shows we go on and that are inside or covered. We also went on things we might not have normally done just to get a break from the heat (like Living with the Land in Epcot etc). We planned a pool/water park day too so we weren't in the heat every day. Good luck with school and I hope you get to go next year!

The heat! The heat is really intense and the humidity can make it tough to handle. Our strategy has always been to tour early AM, hit rope drop. Take a long daily break, during the worst of the heat and crowds. Then we head back to the parks when the sun goes down for some night time touring.
We did this too. Do rope drop, go back to the resort by noon to swim or nap or both....then go back to the parks after the sun goes down. In August, a midday break is a must. Its just too hot.

And yes, drink way more water than you think you need. Plus get a mist fan and duck into stores with AC when possible. :)

In August it rains around 3pm every day, like clock work. It never lasts long though.

After the sun goes down, it starts to cool. Not sure what time that is. You can google what time the sunsets in August, and im sure you'll find your answer.

We are going to try going that time next year, the last week. With the prices of flights around the holidays, and not wanting to take my nephew out of school, we are going to give it a shot. We aren't looking forward to the heat at all though. We are planning to go to the parks for AM EMH or rope drop, make an ADR around noon, then head back to the resort. Then hop to another park at night leaving the resort around 5, and use FP at 6,7,8. We are going to do 6 park days, so we should be able to do everything we want (and multiple times for the must dos) in the limited park time.

Even though we don't really plan to be out touring during mid day, we are still worried about the heat. I've been looking at the weather there the last couple weeks and even at 7 am the feel like is the upper 80s. And by now and up till noon you're looking at feels like in the upper 90s. I knew it'd be very hot/humid, but I have been a little surprised at just how the feels like never really dips down too much. I was expecting low 80s until around 11, but thats not the case. Hoping that even though it feels warm, without the sun at it's hottest it won't be TOO bad.

We would force ourselves to take AC breaks. Sometimes that means going to watch a show that you wouldn't normally watch at that particular time (like Tiki or Country Bears Jamboree or Philharmagic or whatever) Working those into your touring plan makes a difference. Just sitting for a decent amount of time in AC helps you cool down keep going. We saved a lot of heat meltdowns (mostly from me!) by doing that

we go the last week of August, headed there next week actually. The heat is unbearable during the afternoon so we get to the parks at rope drop and take a long break in the afternoon to swim and nap. Then we're refreshed and recharged for a night at the parks again.

The crowds are noticeably lower that week, still busy for sure, but not nearly as bad as the rest of the summer. The current bounce back offer is free dining for next August so you can count on that being offered to the public as well!
