Opinions please - at a Disney resort if a cast member waves a taxi to the front of the hotel for me and opens the door, should I be tipping him? If so, how much?

Thanks!

I never do, but I suppose I should - I usually do in other cities for doormen. I guess it never occurred to me to do so, as the cab is usually just down the drive - in fact, sometimes the valet runner doesn't call them, they alert the valet desk who makes a phone call.

If I did, I would likely give them $2-$3, just like I do when they bring my car up.

I always do, and not because they're expecting one. I do it to show my appreciation and for a little bit of karma. :hippie:

I usually tip a buck per person in my party.

For the one time we took a taxi at WDW, we just walked outside the resort lobby on our own and found a taxi for hire. If a cast member called for us or flagged down a taxi, I would have tipped a couple of dollars.

I keep the number for Mears in my cell phone so I can call for a taxi myself if needed.

Tipping is supposed to reflect your appreciation of the employee's service. If I need a cab and the doorman literally jumps to the curb, hand above his head demanding one of the taxis pull up, then helps my wife in by opening the taxi door, I will easily tip $5 or more because I appreciate what he did (and the rest of the night my wife will be talking about how great it was to have staff wait on her like that).

Conversely, if I detect a hint of attitude from the doorman, or they act like they have better things to do, I will NOT tip (this is rare but it has happened).

On average I find I am tipping around the $2 to $3 range for doormen.

Same rules for valet (but different amounts). So to answer your question, only tip doormen if you feel they deserve it, then tip an amount you feel is appropriate. And don’t ever feel obligated to tip if the service is below your expectations, for anything.

We tip if they are helping us with bags or anything (like the last time they helped big time with the double stroller) but I did not the morning we needed one to get to breakfast since we really just said we needed one and the cab driver was already there and did everything. The CM just went back to the front before the cab was even really parked. I didn't think badly but he was gone before tipping would happen if that makes sense.
