Can anyone tell me the "pc" way to tip service workers....... I've read on here that a valet takes your luggage in for you, and then up to your room..... what is appropriate as far as tipping. Any info would be appreciated!!

There is a valet that gets bags out of car, then another that takes them to the room. Means you have to tip twice. $1 per bag is acceptable. I also tipped cleaning staff $1 per person per day. Left it for them every morning.

Yes, that was one thing that bothered me...tipping the guy who takes them out of the car and to the lobby and then another guy who brings them up to our room...silly!

$1 a bag.

Thanks.......... I know, I have my dh........ and my 2 sons, 17 and 15, they won't know what to do when they don't have to carry the bags............ ha!!!

Never thought about leaving the money for the maid each day. I always left the money there when I was leaving. I guess that was kinda stupid because different people clean the room. Is that the norm to leave a $1 a day for the maid? I was there for six days and left $20 for the maid on the last day. I did notice it was a different person. Now i feel bad that the other maids didn't get a tip.

We tipped the person who removed the luggage from our car and put in on the cart $5.

We tipped the guy who brought our luggage up to the room $10.

We tipped the maid $5.00 everyday. If you tip housekeeping, please do it everyday so that the person who is doing the cleaning gets the tip.

We tipped valet $3.00 everytime they brought up our car.

Hope that helps,

Teresa

Another one which always troubles me, is: do you tip the valet guy when he takes your car away, or only when they bring it back? We always do both as I hate to think of anyone being left out. We always leave a tip for the maid each day. Still not sure what is the right amount for that, either. We usually leave $3 a day. Is that enough?

I'd hate to tip short, but I really only want to give a really good tip when we get outstanding service - like the valet guy who jumped into one of the resort cars at PBH to take us across to Tcoup Chop in the mother of all thunder storms. There were no water taxis, no cabs and no buses. We asked him to get us a cab and he just said, "I'll get a car". We gave him $20.

Is $1 a bag still considered the going rate? We were paying that when we first started visiting the US over 10 years ago. And are you expected to tip more if you're staying in an upmarket resort? I think dh tipped the guys at PBH $15 each way for our 2 cases and 3 small bags (cosmetic case, camera bag and small holdall). Checking in to and out of hotels is a big expense for us!

We are a family of 4 and leave $5 in the morning each day for the maid. If we have turn down I leave $2 on the pillow each evening as well. We tip $10 for bell hop, sometimes more like last trip at RPR when he filled our ice bucket as well as our cooler and placed all the bags on stands and beds for me to get at. He also explained the resort layout and told us about star service.

Deb, we had the same thing happen during a thunder storm and they drove us from PBH to RPR. I am always thrilled with the service at these hotels!

My husband tips concierge for services that are special. Not just dining reservations. I wondered if we should tip them for making dining reservations as well?
