Hi all. Yesterday at Epcot a photopass photographer took several pics of our family for us as we were leaving the park. (I was glad since I'm buying the CD, but I actually didn't mention that). Anyway, as we were leaving I suddenly had the feeling that I was supposed to be tipping her.

It had never crossed my mind to tip a photopass photographer, but it was definitely the vibe I got. Anyone have any thoughts on the etiquette here? It had never crossed my mind that I was supposed to be tipping a photopass photographer, so I wasn’t prepared. (I didn’t have an small bills prepared) But then I felt back afterwards. What do you think?

It never occurred to me to tip them. I've never seen anyone else tipping them. Hmmm, good question. I've not ever felt like I *should* tip them, but I guess others could see it differently. I'll be interested to see the answers to this one!

If I had to tip everytime one of them took our photo, I'd be poor! LOL! We got so many pics taken, it'd be crazy to tip everytime!

Okay...I may be starting a fire here but I am so sick of how out of control tipping has come....I mean come on! Now in days there are tipping jars everywhere...even Starbucks where we are already paying close to $4 for a drink! As John whoever would say..."Give Me a Break!"

I've read my hubby's CM handbook very thoroughly. A photopass photographer would *not* be allowed to accept a tip. If you offered, and they accepted, they could be terminated. The only positions that are allowed to accept a tip are those in jobs where tips would normally be allowed, such as a server at a restaurant.

This was my initial thought after reading the post. It really has never occurred to me to even consider tipping them.

It is not a "tipping" position. They are not supposed to take your tips anyway.

I have never tipped them and never thought I should. I will not be tipping them.

I read somewhere that certain Disney CM positions can get fired if they take a tip

I would never think to tip them- they are doing a job.

Amen! Anyone care to tip me for my thoughts?? :lmao:

In my opinion - the Photopass photographers are approaching you and offering you a service - they don't need to be tipped.

But isn't this what "exotic dancers" do as well and expect tips? ;)

I wouldn't tip the photographers, but the reasoning you gave made me think of that example. And honestly, I worked in a cafe where there was a tip jar and we frankly didn't care if we were tipped or not. We already made minimum wage and the tips would be divided among the whole staff, meaning each person got like .25/hr that they worked- amounts only to pocket change. No need to tip your barista.

Hmmm....good point! However, when you (well, I don't know if "you" do - maybe - do you? - nevermind, I don't want to know!) go to an exotic dancing establishment, you are aware that they will be dancing for you. Therefore, you are approaching them and asking for that, um, "service."

I love the comparison!! Who'd have thought we'd be comparing Photopass Photographers to exotic dancers???

Photographers are not supposed to accept tips. However, they are allowed to accept up to two "gifts" per year if a guest is persistent, which may be monetary, and they have to report it. Guests have also found ways around this by using small things that can not be considered a tip. Some of the best I've seen are homemade thank you cards or unique items from their hometown. You should never feel obligated though.

When we had our photo session and spent quite a few minutes with our photographer, the thought crossed our minds later too. I went back into the GF and offered it but he said he wasn't allowed to accept tips. I hope that eases your mind! :)

I just set up a photo shoot at WL and I started wondering about tipping them. Thanks for letting us know!

It would be nice to think that the smiles on the faces of those who where being photographed was enought thanks...especially that of a child that who sees his/her favorite character for the first time. Oh, wait, what am I thinking today's world is primarily monetarily driven :(

My family wanted a group photo taken in the lobby of the WL (we stayed at the VWL). Once we all gathered, DH ran to grab the photopass photographer from his station where you can preview all your photopass photos, of course DMIL HAS to run to the bathroom right there and then. So we asked if he could take a shot of just me, DH and the kids while we waited. He did so, then DBro & DSIL wanted one of just them. The photographer was very nice about it and took the photo. At this point I'm wondering how long my MIL is going to be. She finally comes back and we take the group photo and now my Aunt wants a photo with the kids. The photographer kindly explained that if we want multiple group shots we could schedule a photo session for a fee. I seriously just wanted ONE picture of all of us together. Well, fortunately the kids weren't going to cooperate so the photographer was off the hook.

Anyhow, DH tried to tip the photographer for his kindness and patience, but he graciously refused explaining it was not Disney's policy to accept tips for this service.
While we did not get photos anywhere near the quality of the photo session ones I've seen, we did end up with very nice pictures and the photographer was great about the whole thing!

What if you photograph exotic dancers.............who tips whom?? ;)

( Varkie goes to find his camera and fake photopass id)
