Hi! We are new DVCers wh just had our first stay at BLT!!!:cloud9:

Is it customary to tip mousekeeping? We always did in a "regular" resort room, but for just fresh towels and tp (yes, we did get a new roll in plenty of time, contrary to experiences in other threads!), I figured they hadn't really cleaned or anything.......

BTW, we absolutely loved it. The first night, I couldn't sleep, we were too close to the castle-what if I miss something? :goodvibes

I disagree.

Mousekeeping at Disney is not a tipped position and they are paid at a higher rate to compensate for the lack of tips. This is a contractual agreement between Disney and the union representing the Mousekeepers.

The fact that they come to work and do their job does not warrant a tip in my opinion. Tips are a way to thank someone for exceptional service above and beyond the norm. Tips should be earned, not expected.

Tips should not be paid in advance, if they are, they are really a bribe, not a tip.

For the two of us, we usually tip $10/day at a normal hotel, at DVC we usually leave $10 on the service day.

You'll get a lot of arguments that mousekeeping (DVC and CRO) are not tipped positions, which is correct, but if I can make someone's day for taking care of our mess (just a note, we're not messy, we are very organized people - make the bed daily types), I have no issues with leaving a tip.

During our 2 week trip this last year, after the first service and tip the mousekeeper made it a point to stop by almost daily (I might assume the days she didn't stop by she was off) and service our room, she went out of her way. Having not tipped, I don't think we would have gotten this level of service. I didn't expect it, because I firmly believe, even with the classification, these individuals do not make a lot, and $10 even a day is not much in the grand scheme of things for me to extend a thank you for the service.

We usually leave a few dollars on T&T day and $5 on full cleaning or check-out day. I don't care what Disney considers the position; we tip housekeepers at hotels.

Wanted to say hi to another Dopey lover!!!

And we also tip a few dollars on T&T and depending on our length of stay more on our check out day. I usually base the tip on what needs done or what kind of state we left the room in. I usually empty the trash cans - the fridge and put all the towels/ linens we used in the tub to ease their work load a little. I look at it as maybe it will mean another member gets their room a little early - a perk everyone LOVES!!!

We still tip Mousekeeping even on T&T day.

Ditto here. You couldn't pay me enough to deal with all they deal with from the company and some of the guests. They were a godsend when our daughter suddenly came down with the flu while we were there this Christmas.

I have sometimes, but it's something I'm going to focus on in the future. I can't begin to imagine how some of the rooms are left on check-out.

Seems like there's quite a few rooms the staff is responsible for. And, I can't imagine that the housekeeping staff is getting rich in lieu of tips. From various discussions I've had with bus drivers (which also isn't a tipped position, I wouldn't think) the pay isn't all that much. I can only assume housekeeping is in a similar position.

So, yeah, I try to tip.

I never tipped before. Eeek I hope I wasn't supposed to
Some do, some don't. Technically they are not in a tipped position so there is no expectation to do so. I only tip if they do something special, that said, they often do something special. OTOH we were in MX at a timeshare that had daily maid service and daily turn down service, I think tipping expectations are different in that situation.

Curious if anyone tips for a one or two night stay?

Even when we stayed at BLT for one night in September (we checked in at 3:00 p.m., headed to MNSSHP, got back at midnight, and checked out at 9:30 a.m. the next morning), we left a couple of dollars. I don't begrudge tipping Mousekeepers at all - - even with only a T&T, I very much appreciate what they do. :goodvibes

Considering the thousands of dollars we spend between airfare, maintenance fees, annual passes and food, a $10 tip on T&T day seems minor, but it does make the mousekeepers feel better considering the sometimes just bad behavior by some guests who occasionally scream at them for very minor stuff.

We don't tip. They really don't do anything. We don't stay long so we never have a full cleaning. All they really do is take out the trash and give us new towels. I would expect the place to be clean when I get there no matter where I am staying.

I appreciate what everybody does, it's their job, that doesn't mean that they should be tipped. The Cast Member taking tickets can get paid less than the Mousekeepers and I don't see anyone giving them a tip.

I just don't get it???

My trips are usually solo-I never tip. Room's relatively OK when I'm done. However, last trip, for the first time, I DID tip because the mousekeepers (for the first time) did something special. I called them in to point out very dusty wicker chairs-clumps of visible dust between the slats. I insisted it was OK til I checked out, then suggested they dust there before the next guest. But they insisted on fixing the chairs after I left for the day. Sure enough, I came back that night to spiffy clean chairs. Not only that, but they'd made my bed, emptied trash, etc. on a non-T&T day. So sweet-a nice gesture, well-deserving of a tip.

Was your room clean when you got there? Then they did something. I have never stayed anywhere without tipping something.
