everytime I walk by it I shake my head. Does not belong, no nostalgia, no movie or character tie in. Feels like it belongs at a six flags.

Anyone willing to defend it?

It's a classic ride that Walt felt like putting in. I'm all for bigger, better, faster. But we need to keep the classics or the park loses some charm. My kids loved going on it and waiting till they were tall enough to ride alone left them wanting to come back. Now, if they refurbished the ride and tied it into Cars, that would be totally cool and would bring in a whole other generation of kids.

I vote for it to stay.

This. Otherwise I think it should go.

The argument "it was Walt's choice" is not valid because A) We all know he would be eager to inject new ideas into the park and discard the old ones; and B) He really only inserted cheaper rides like that because he needed more attractions. He even had one exclusively for kids built for Disneyland when he saw there weren't enough rides after it first opened. Once they had more ideas, the tiny auto attraction was quickly removed.

The current Indy Speedway makes up about 25% of tomorrowland. Not even Test Track (a ride of similar time length) takes up that much space. The land could EASILY be put to better use.

I wish it had better scenery - the one in Storyland in New Hampshire has better scenery! It seems really short too, and just blah... I think they should redo it, maybe have quieter cars, add some trees/bushes? The one at Disneyland seems cool, with the monorail entwined with the track, and doesn't it have a longer track too? The WDW one seems to just get going and then you are in a traffic jam at the end.

I agree!!!

I've been saying this for years, years I tell ya! IMO, it is no different that an off the shelf, spinner type, or crazy mouse. The same ones that people complain about in Dinoland. Something you can find in any old amusement park.

If you take a look at it on Google maps you can see how much acreage it takes up in Tomorrowland. There would be room for a real E ticket attraction if they took it out.

Face it, Tomorrowland is not in great shape as it is. SGE needs to leave now, Laugh Floor hardly ever has a line, same with COP. The only two attractions with much pull are Space and Buzz, and Buzz is in baaaaaddd shape. The speedway has lines because it appeals to kids and there isn't much else great over there for them to ride.

It's not even on my radar. I try hard to do "everything" on every trip, and the speedway doesn't even exist to me. I am VERY resistant to change in "my" parks. (Can we talk about how I'm still not over Delta Dreamflight??) But if they got rid of it, I couldn't care less. It would be nice if they could spruce it up a little, or do something Cars related.

At our last trip my son was just a little too short to ride Space Mountain and my daughter was just two. The only thing my kids liked in Tomorrowland was the people mover. They rode on it 4 times. My son still claims it was his favorite ride in all of WDW. But he might just be trolling me.

I would actually be REALLY sad if they did this! There's a ride in Disneyland (California) that's Cars themed and it's AMAZING. It's VERY similar to Test Track (only better, IMO)... so if they re-did Test Track into the Cars ride, I think that would awesome, but not this ride. I think it's very classic, but something about it being OLD is AWESOME. It reminds me of my childhood going to Disney... my little brothers and I LOVED IT. I don't think we realized it was on a track until we were much older :rotfl:

Oh, and to OP... I went to Six Flags last weekend for the first time in almost a decade... WOW... I used to think Disney's slacking was "looking like a Six Flags," but it's definitely NOT. The whole time we kept saying... "they wouldn't do this in Disney," or "In Disney they..." ... I think everyone wanted to murder us haha.

Everyone says it should be themed to Cars, but in another thread we were just talking about Wreck It Ralph and I think they should actually theme the Speedway to the Sugar Rush game in that movie :)

that said, the cars need to be faster, less stinky, and the track needs to be made more interesting.

The amount of space it takes up amazes me, I am big on nostalgia, don't take away my COP, Country Bears, or Tiki room! But the Indy speedway doesn't feel like those, it can be found in parks all over. Disney should be unique, and if the type of ride is generic then make it unique using movies and characters. Time to remove Indy Speedway!!
