Time from plane landing to hotel

Angi, we often rent a car and it's never taken us more than 20 minutes from the MCO to WDW and that's doing the speed limit. The distance between the two is 15.83 miles.

It depends on what you consider WDW. Mapquest MCO to the All Stars and it is 28 minutes. To the Poly comes back at 31 minutes.

Two years ago we pulled out of the rental garage and pulled up to ASMo in 20 minutes and that was going the speed limit.

Does arrival time at MCO matter much? We're hoping to get an early flight that should be arriving at MCO around 7:50am. Is DME likely to be crowded in the early morning like that? And if not, will we have to wait until more people come along to fill up a bus before it heads out?

Either way, if we're rolling into the GF by 9:30-10am, I'm going to be a happy camper. Check out our digs, and then monorail to MK to say hi to Mickey!

You are correct @maxiesmom we arrive after the morning rush and usually are able to cruise right in.

I've not found MapQuest to exaggerate. And in my experience they are more correct with their times. Also, they have the Sports more than 22 miles away from MCO. If someone makes it in 20 minutes they are very lucky and must not be running into any traffic.

Again, Mapquest has it listed as light traffic right now, and taking 30 minutes. So I think anyone making it in 20 minutes is very lucky and that shouldn't be counted on.

Not for nothing, but your destination within Disney property can make a fairly sizable difference on travel time. The drive between, say, Disney Springs and the Contemporary can be 15 minutes or more.

I'm going to guess your definition of speed limit may not be the same as others. Because it's not 20 min to WDW property from the airport. Not saying you didn't do it in that just that 99% of the rest of the population doesn't

Generally would you say 90 minutes or more from DME check-in to hotel?
Add another about 30 minutes for deplaning and getting to DME?
I have seen some question specific hotel, but wouldn't it be about the same amount of time to any of them?
Thanks in advance.

Again.....maybe if you tell us WHY timing is of importance, there will be more viable suggestions. If you are just asking in general, then I am sure there are plenty of scenarios offered on this thread. If you are trying to plan for ADR's and all you have is a 90 minute window from the time you land at MCO and your ADR's, then I would GUESS your chances of making it to your ADR's on time are very slim. If you just want to know how SOON you will arrive in WDW to enjoy the magic, then I have to agree with others who ask why it matters. From my understanding, as soon as you board DME the MAGIC BEGINS!!!! Have a WONDERFUL TRIP !!!!

There could be a long line of people in the Q so you might not get into the first bus .

Why quibble over an amount of time ..

How long the trip takes depends on many factors which are out of your control .

If it takes 2 hours so be it ... if 90 min well done ..... if less than 90 min better again

I agree that it really shouldn't be of that much importance, but I guess to some it really DOES matter. I've NEVER used DME so I can only give an OPINION. I would NOT make ADR's for less than 2 hours after my plane was scheduled to land.

I've seen time tables that show the average wait time from most resorts to most parks is <30 minutes. Why would you say a whole hour, especially if we weren't checking in before heading out?

We always give ourselves one hour when going from our resort to a park. If we want to be at the park at 8:30am, we make sure we are at the bus stop no later than 7:30am. Many times we get there early, not taking the full hour, but there are often times when it's pretty close. Sometimes a bus can take forever, especially if you just miss one, then some of the commutes can be longer depending on what resort you're coming from and which park you are going to. Using an hour to gauge resort to park transportation is just a good, safe rule of thumb.

The reason that I'm really "stressed" about it is that we bought a 7 day park hopper ticket and we want to do MVMCP on the first day. Since you can get in with a MVMCP ticket at 4pm anyway, we really want to get off the plane to MK as quickly as possible to make use of our ticket before the Christmas party starts. If we aren't able to make it to the park before 3, it will be a waste. We'll just have to suck it up if we can't, but I still want to be prepared.

The good news is that we got an email the other day telling us that our flight was rescheduled for a little earlier, so we'll be getting to MCO about 20 minutes earlier than initially anticipated.

Angi, I'm not here to argue with you. WDW is less than 16 miles from the airport. At 60 miles an hour it would take less than 16 minutes to travel that distance. You do realize that 60 miles an hour means you are traveling a mile per minute? It takes us 5 minutes more than that to get there with lights. I talked to someone today and asked them how long it takes for them to drive from MCO to WDW and he told me about 20 minutes also. And I don't think my highway speed of 60 MPH is absurd.

Again, it depends exactly where you are going at WDW. Mapquest has the Sports resort at 22 miles away. So yes, even going 60 it will take more than 20 minutes. A Google search shows the Magic Kingdom is 24.9 miles, or 30 minutes, away from MCO. The time it takes to get anywhere on Disney property has to take into account exactly where you are going, what traffic you run into, as well as how fast you drive.

@maxiesmom, why are we even discussing this? Mapquest says it should take 21 driving hours from my house to WDW and we did it in 17 driving hours and that's with going 5 miles over the speed limit and everyone else was still passing us. Hope you have a magical trip.

Because there are many variables to how long it takes to get to a fixed point on Disney property. Your insistence that it takes less time than many other people have experienced, than other sites (not just Mapquest) states it take, could cause someone to under-estimate how long it may take them, and cause problems. Great for you it takes less time than others. But your experience is unique to you. And many of us have not had the same experience.

And the miles you list, where exactly are you getting to in all of WDW that is less than 16 miles from the airport? Disney property is pretty huge, and where exactly someone is going makes a difference.

Btw, it takes us longer to get to Florida than Mapquest thinks it should take. Variables.

I find it hard to believe you're going to average 60mph on a 20 minute drive. Out of curiosity, are you saying it only takes 20 minutes to get to WDW property, or to a specific resort?

This is simple... how many miles does Mapquest say the trip is? Assuming Mapquest is using a 60mph average, that's 1260 miles. To go that many miles in 17 hours is averaging 74mph. If Mapquest is using 55mph average, you went 67mph.

FWIW, I like googlemaps. :)

Between 45 minutes to an hour has been my experience in early January and last week. First stop in May, second stop in January. Didnt spend more than 10 minutes on the bus before it departed.

@maxiesmom, my daughter works at WDW and I asked her last night how long does it take her to get to work after she passes the airport so she timed it a half hour ago and texted me that it took her 21 minutes. How's that?

BTW I'm sorry I tried to answer the OP's question. I thought I was being helpful, but apparently I wasn't since you experts seem to know more than I. I apologize for any "misinformation" I have provided.

@sam_gordon, mapquest is notorious for quoting times that are more than the actual driving times.

BTW the times I drove to WDW the highway speed limits from VA/NC border to GA/FL border were mostly 70 MPH's.
