Have fun, Lesley! Mary Poppins arrives in Atlanta in just a couple of weeks, so I can't wait to hear what you think of the show!

Loving the photograph tips! Thanks guys!:thumbsup2

Oh, Lesley! I'm so happy about your Mary Poppins evening, and can't wait to hear all about it. SOOOO hoping you had better luck at your Mary Poppins experience than we did...:guilty:

Those photos were AWESOME!!! I never knew anything about the aperture or the shutter priorities.....I feel like I have learned so much!! THANKS!!!

Lesley--I hope you enjoyed the show! We all go next Sunday afternoon, and it can NOT get here fast enough for Miss Megs. Sunday is a big day for us...first we do the March of Dimes' March For Babies walk down at Sawyer Point in honor of Megan, and then that afternoon, we head to Mary Poppins!!! It is going to be a GREAT day!

Hi Lesley!

I just wanted to say that we went to Charleston last week and ate at Poogan's Porch! It was amazing and the history behind it is really cute! We just love Charleston and can't wait to go back! Kiawah looks beautiful!

FUN FUN!!! We are actually going into nyc next
weekend but this is not one of the shows we plan
to see. Definitely for the future though!
Enjoy!!! What are you going to see?

Enjoy the show!
We did, thank you! ; )

Have a great time at Mary Poppins! (my favorite movie!!)

Aperture priority mode is the "AF" on the camera (I think its AF on the dial) its where you control the aperture and the camera does the rest. Think of Aperture as how blurry you want the background to be when you take a photo of something. The lower you put the number, the blurrier the background is making for more depth of field!! After you master that, its easy to master the other really good mode to use which is shutter priority. Thats where you determine how fast the camera takes a photo (the faster the photo is taken the darker it will be) and the camera does the rest!! Shutter priority is really good for fireworks shots because what you do is you get a tripod (a gorillapod SLR is AWESOME for disney) and you set the shutter to take as long as 3 seconds and it reaaalllly sloooooowly (like the dramatic effect? lol) takes the photo so you get fireworks shots like this:

heres just a few photos I've taken over the past couple of years using either Aperture priority mode or shutter priority mode.

You can see my candids from the park in my trip report! :goodvibes

Have a great time!!

AMAZING Nicole (as everyone has said) thanks for the tips in the PM exchange, you have challenged me to really delve into this camera thing, I think I can I think I can I think I can : )
Gorgeous pic and great explanation!

Leslie, you should get a book from the library or look for a discounted version. They really explain the different settings.

Here are two that I used shutter priority to "freeze" the action so the movement wouldn't be blurry (sorry, not Disney!)

These were taken with a 55 - 250 lens about 40 yards away.
AMAZING shots!!!! I was a swimmer growing up so I totally appreciate these, GREAT work!

Have a great time at the show!! Looking forward to hearing all about it :cool1:
coming today : )

I can't wait to hear about the show. It is coming here in January and I can't wait to see it.
You are going to love it?
I hope you have a great time!!!!
Thanks!!!

You will love it! Saw last Sunday's 6:30 show...and loved it. The last scene was amazing!
Wasn't it GREAT!!!

That ones not mine, but the link below it is where you can find the original! Just click on "All sizes"

Here are the two of mine which demonstrate longer shutter speeds. The fireworks shot was hard because I didn't have a full length tripod thats whay its a weird angle :rotfl:

We had SUCH a great time at the show. We took a family picture before we headed downtown:

The kids were both totally excited. I've taken Luke to the Christmas Carol at Playhouse in the Park, but this was their first Broadway show. We got there and I tried to take another picture of the kids and my camera started to die, I couldn't believe it!?! So I snapped one of the merchandise cart:
103_6149.jpg

I was instantly regretting not bringing our check card, the merchandise was GREAT, I SO wanted one of the Supercalifragalisticexpealidocious shirts!
I was THRILLED to see they had booster seats for the kids, I've never seen those at this theatre before, so that helped the kids greatly. Actually Tim and Lauren lucked out because no one sat in front of them so they had a clear shot.
Tim took this picture of Lauren on his Iphone before the show began, can you see the excitement in her eyes?

As the play was starting my mom said to me "you know, this is based off the original play, NOT the movie". I DID not know that. You could tell instantly though, there were a LOT of differences from the play to the movie. I did NOT like Mrs. Banks in the play, she is a total pushover : ) The play was AMAZING from start to finish. It started at 6:30 and the intermission wasn't until after 8:00, at that point I was wishing I had booked the day time show.
The highlights for me were the SUPERCALIFRAGALISTICEXPEALIDOCIOUS song, the choreography for that was great, and STEP IN TIME took my breath away, and of course when Mary flew over the audience. Jane and Michael Banks were AMAZING!!! They were practically in every scene, were great singers and actors AND dancers, just couldn't get over it!
Mary was AMAZING from start to finish and had us laughing at times. It was pure joy watching Luke and Lauren's reactions throughout the show. After it was over Lauren said "MOM, that was AMAZING!!!!" I was so excited to share this with them, now I'm just praying that Lion King comes back. Overall I'd give Mary Poppins a 8/10 (as far as Broadway musicals go- I would rank 1) Wicked, 2). Lion King 3). Jersey Boys 4). Phantom 5). Mary Poppins 6). Sunset Boulevard I know I've seen more, but that is what comes to mind), we all had a GREAT time!!!!! If it comes to your town I highly recommend you go see it, just know it is vastly different from the movie in many parts but overall PRACTICALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!!!;)
As we were walking to the car we passed a homeless man on the street, Lauren said "that's not nice just to walk by him mommy, can I have money to give to him?" So I gave her a dollar and walked back with her and she handed it to him and he said "thank you sweetheart", she said "you are welcome, have a good night" :lovestruc Just melted my heart.
So all in all we had a FABULOUS time.
I have more trip planning to share with you coming up in the next installment, I booked a hotel for our ride down today. Gotta run, Luke hits the ball field in 15 minutes.
Until next time............
-Lesley

Great family picture, it sounds like a fun time was had by all. I look forward to your trip planning update.

Mary Poppins is a fun musical, very festive! We saw it in London several years ago, which we thought was appropriate :) So glad that you enjoyed it! I think I have seen that Tshirt, btw, on the Disney Store site... ;)

Sounds like you had a great time at Mary Poppins. Your family picture is so cute.:)

Wow what a nice family pic of all of you.:thumbsup2

That is so sweet that Lauren said it was amazing & also to the homeless man:cutie:

I wish Mary Poppins was coming around here but I think the closest would be Boston. I do not drive in Boston. I am not sure if it is coming this way but need to find out.

That is great kids enjoyed the Play so much.

I always wanted to Take Trent to one, but just can't picture him paying attention for that long :goodvibes

What a gorgeous family picture of you all.

I would say Phantom was my favourite musical. Without sounding strange the music makes me cry especially when all of the orchestra are playing together.

Glad you enjoyed Mary Poppins and what a lovely gesture by Lauren.

What a great picture of the four of you, and it sounds like you had a practically perfect ;) time! I am very excited about the show souvenirs they have for sale.

Lion King is coming to the Schuster Center in Dayton in summer 2011. The dates are June 14-July 10. We are definitely going to get tickets for that show! Miss Saigon is my absolute favorite Broadway musical...if you ever get the chance, go see it!

Mary Poppins sounds fabulous. Soon as my grandaughter
Chloe gets older I will definitely take her to see it!
We are heading into NYC this weekend for our anniversary
to see my absolute favorite Jersey Boys, also seeing Mama
Mia and the king Tut exhibit. Also got my confirmation
letter to the Regis and Kelly show for monday. Can't wait
for this much needed getaway!!!

What a beautiful family picture! The kids are getting so big. I am glad you really liked Mary Poppins, it is one of my favorite movies. Lauren is such a sweet girl for wanting to help the homeless man.

Looking forward to seeing your updates for the trip!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the family picture!!! That is such a great shot of all of you....you MUST frame that one!!! It's a keeper!

I am so glad you enjoyed the show, and can't wait to see it ourself on Sunday afternoon!!!

You can go to the Aronoff's website and sometimes view upcoming seasons' schedules...always depending on what they have already locked down to come here. I will cross my fingers too that Lion King comes back soon.....that is one PHENOMENAL show!!!! I want to take Megan to see that one too!

Have you ever seen Les Miserables??? That show is really good too.....the music is so powerful....I balled my eyes out through it! :)

Great family photo.
Glad you had a good time at the show. I think I'll have to get tickets soon :)
