my dh hates the tiki birds! I told him they 've re done it since we've been but he still says he won't go. Is it any better now?

They've injected a bit more humor with more pop flavored tunes, but I don't think the attraction was improved very much.

I never saw the original show. But, I really like the current show. Great chance to cool off too.

Ty

Good show and get's you outta the sun for a while::yes:: :wave2:

Tiki Room purists prefer the old show, but it's still pretty cute. I think if you didn't like the original you wouldn't find it much of an improvement.

Yep, I'm the dh and I didn't like the Tiki birds when we went in 1991. I'm kind of sorry to hear that I would be better off getting a chicken salad sandwich instead of suffering through it all again. :p :teeth:

Anything involving the scratchy voice of Gilbert Godfried needs to be avoided.

Oh! I agree with that! I didn't know he was in it now ! I can't stand his voice!:earseek:

Saw the original, saw the new - once for each is plenty for me. Now my family still goes and I find something else to do (anything else will do)!

Ya gotta love them tiki birds. I FORCE my family to sit thru this show every trip. It's kinda like doing Small World back to back when there are no lines!!!

Walt himself was so proud of those little birds. I kinda like the newer show. It helps the little ones to relate to the birds from the movies they know. [That is, any little kid who isn't scared to death of the thunder storm!!!]

Believe it or not my mother ( now 82) falls asleep every single time we see this show, and she isn't even deaf!!

I say "Long Live The Tiki Room!!"

Emmasgrammy brought up a good point: The Tiki birds were among the first animatronic animals developed for DL. There is footage of Walt with Imagineers showing off what would become Tiki Room birds. From an historic perspective, the show is a must.
The singing Tikis and the thunderstorm are my favorite parts:earsboy:

LOL:p I do this too::yes:: ! Every trip. My family puts up with it though(and I think they secretly enjoy it). It's one of those "classic disney" things you just must see every trip.

We all liked the old one. Haven't seen the new one yet. I'll bet it won't be as good. Kinda the way Spectro-Magic isn't near as good as the old Main Street Electrical Parade! Oh well.......heavy SIGH! :( From what I've read here, at least they kept the thunderstorm as part of the show. I hope some of the old songs remain as well.

And yes, the tiki birds were THE first Audio-Animatronics ever developed by Disney Imagineers.

I'm glad they updated it instead of yanking it out. I kinda like the new show, though I do miss the Hawaiian War Chant finale. I don't find Iago that annoying really, so maybe it's just me. Also, I think adding some contemporary AA figures and songs, helps bring into the current century...

I saw the original show in 1978, when I was 10, and absolutely loved it. I went again this January, and had to laugh at how bad it was. If you have an appreciation for camp value, you may enjoy it. I did find it was a great place to cool off in the afternoon and nurse DD. It was cool, dark, and practically empty.

DS's favorite song from the Disney Mania CD is Hilary Duff's Tiki.
He really wants to go.

Me like-ie Tiki :)
I've seen the old and the new.
I think Gilbert is funny (in small doses).
