I didn't realize the tiki mugs at both of the Trader Sam's lounges were "a thing."

How often do new ones debut? If you collect them, or have any websites or posts where I can learn more, I'd love to hear more about them.

Now that we travel as a couple w/o kids, I am looking to try things I've overlooked on past trips.

When they first opened they used stock mugs that weren't designed for Disney. Since they got their own mugs, some have been redesigned once, some twice. So they don't change over that often. They do go out of stock, though. If you really want one, go on your first day, and if it's out, hopefully will be back before your last. If you just want any and not a specific one, it's not that critical, they'll have something.

We have a large tiki mug collection (and a tiki bar at home we built) that includes several from both Trader Sam's and Trader Sam's Grotto. New releases don't happen too frequently, but we did get the Disneyland anniversary tiki mug with a crystal in it two years ago and the Mahalloween one is usually a hot ticket item. Most can be found on ebay but the prices can be outrageous so if you are there and like something, buy it. The Los Angeles area has some storied, non-Disney tiki bars such as Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach, Tonga Hut in North Hollywood, and The Purple Orchid in El Segundo. One of most famous tiki mug makers is called Tiki Farm, and you'll know if you've got one of those in your hand because Tiki Farm will be scrawled on the bottom. If you are really into the whole tiki scene, a store called Oceanic Arts in Whittier is kind of the holy grail of all things tiki.
