Tiffins...ADR's?

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/ente...iffins-menu-disneys-animal-kingdom-story.html has a sneak peek.

I predict the people upset about Skippers Canteen will have a meltdown over this menu.

To be fair, many of the complaints about SC were about the quality of food, the portion sizes, the inconsistent interaction with servers, the lack of ADR's, the price of the food. I know that the kids menu was not geared to children's who would not attempt "weird" food, but honestly, SC has way more issues that weird items on a Menu.

I would need to see the entire menu as well is the prices before I booked this restauant, but I am actually looking forward to this one.

There was a whole bunch of freak out about the menu, and "even if they had ADRs I can never go there!" Reviews have been up and down, but a lot of people freaked out about the menu and will never eat there to review.

I saw them, and know the folks who want typical theme park food will not go there. They won't eat in any restaurant that is "different", but there has been a lot of discussion over the mediocre level of food and the overhyped skipper interactions, that when coupled with the cost of each entree in relation to the size and lack of ADR's.... Well Disney owns this bust imo

I still think they'd fill it if they had ADRs. I guess they might have to introduce a more generic kids menu given how many people seem to be complaining about that.

My kids are now technically Disney adults, and I'm glad because when my kids were eating off the kids' menu all you could get was macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets, maybe pizza. I would have welcomed places with a more interesting kids' menu and my kids would too.

Is their a somewhat set open date yet? I'm looking forward to being able to go back into ak at night fame good food and night time fun!

MY problem with the canteen is the food just isn't good. I love diff types of food, that are good. Jiko is very diff and is wonderful. I hope tiffin's is similar in quality and diff types of foods.

I think that adding a few items that universally kids like would not be a problem.

I'm sure they will have the five essential food groups available to satisfy kids; what Disney restaurant doesn't.:goodvibes
  1. Mac & Cheese
  2. Frozen Pizza
  3. Chicken Nuggets
  4. French Fries
  5. Chocolate Milk

Universally?

I'm pretty sure kids in India aren't eating chopped chicken parts, remolded into a shape and coated in breadcrumbs...

I guess I mispoke. I do not think it would be difficult to offer a few options that are popular with kids who are not happy with what is already offered.

How about a different restaurant instead of dumbing down ANOTHER menu at a Disney signature with chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, fries and frozen pizza?

IMO disney is really missing the boat in not doing BOTH. EVERY restaurant should have a few restaurant specific items that relate to the theme of the restaurant and then a couple of more generic options. I think they tried a bit with the "mickey check" menu but some of that stuff is just as boring, just healthy instead of fried. Kid size portions of the most popular adult menu options (kid sized portions, not "dumbed down flavored down" versions, maybe with interchangeable sides) and then a couple of standard favorites for the picky crowd and parents would have the option to go anywhere they want to regardless of their kid's tastes.

although in the specific case of skipper canteen, the kid menu items, although as different as the regular menu, have gotten very poor reviews on top of it. The reviews on this place are definitely mixed.

I find that the most interesting menus for kids are at the signature restaurants and picky kids are never left out either... not sure why they can't do this at all price points honestly! Our best meal was at california grill even with a picky kid.

I am so hoping too! We are going in december and I really really really hope we can go. it is on the plan :)

We've always had a rule with our kids: try something once. If you HATE it, you don't have to have it again! Same thing my parents did with me. Our kids ordered mostly off adult menus from the time they were really young, and at 9 and 11 now, always do. They try ALL KINDS OF THINGS. We've had servers look at us with a strange look when our daughter ordered sushi and a goat cheese salad at 6yrs old, or my son ordered the grouper at 7yrs old!

There are times when DD might want to stick with a basic pasta or Mac n cheese, which is fine, too. But if that's not on the menu, she'll DEFINITELY find something she's willing to try.

When they were a little younger, we had an app through which they earned stars for different things, which then converted to Disney gift cards for our trips. We always had "trying new things" as an item that earned a bunch of stars -- worked very well to give that extra push if it was ever needed. :)

My kids always went where we wanted to go and they found something to eat. The children's menu is not my personal issue, although I do think it may be an issue with a lot of families. I think that a compromise is to offer the "weird" entrees, but have a few of the old stand by's. I guess I do not understand why this would destroy the integrity of this restaurant. It is my opinion that rather than changing the flavor profiles of the entire menu, "dumbing down", as has been done in a few Epcot restaurants, I have heard, in order to accommodate a few, it is better to have a few less "exotic" choices for the children.

I will be honest. When we vacation, we never chose a restaurant that would leave my DGD out, nor did we ever choose a restaurant hat I knew one of use would absolutely dislike. SC is struggling, and I think it is a multitude of problems that are multiplying over the short period of time it has been opened. To me, the kids menu is one of the easier fixes.

100% agree. It's my son's vacation too... maybe if I took him on 3-4 vacations a year rather than one every 2+ years it would be different, but I want it to be special for him too and that includes being able to eat things he enjoys. Buffets are great for getting him to try new things in a low pressure environment (ie not worrying if he can't stomach it) but mom would like a little more variety than just buffets all the time.

Yes. My husband does not like Indian food. I am not going to book Sanaa knowing he would not enjoy the meal. I know that if we booked it, he would go, and he would eat, just as the girls would do, but I still am not going to put them through it. I am a big fan of compromise in one area, such as adding a few options that are more "traditional American??? not sure what to call then) in order to keep the restaurant from changing the entire menu in order to keep the doors open.

if we went to Sanaa I'd order my kid the bread service and he'd be in carbo heaven, lol. I love indian but am not going to get it at WDW, I'd rather make it at home and get things I can't get at WDW... so honestly I didn't even check their kid's menu. So many restaurants have a steak option that any adult could get plain though if they don't like the sauces/compound butters/spices or other preparations they add to it. Meat is often one of the tougher things to sell to kids who have texture/sensory issues in the first place though.

How does dinner at AK work when the park closes so early? Only 2 days of park hours are posted at the moment for our next trip in August but both days the park closes at 5. So are Tusker House and now Tiffins the only thing open? Do they only offer early dinner seatings?

(And somewhat related, what happened to the whole evening safari and river of lights to be starting up soon? Those cant be taking place if the park is closing at 5pm in late August.

Park hours will change long before August.
