tie dye vs. spray paint

I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday and noticed spray paint for t-shirts. It showed bunching up the shirt in the same manner as tie dye but you spray on the dye instead of soaking the shirt. I thought this might be easier and cleaner for the kids to do. (They are insisting on doing their own.) Has anyone worked with it before, any tips?
