Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

Dont feel bad! I made 7 shirts for our family vacation and they have a lot of white on them. Not very swirled either. I had to use a bleach pen to define my mickey heads too. I will take some pics and try to post them too.

Can't believe I'm going to post my sad story of a shirt. I have come to the conclusion that this is for the professionals to tackle LOL. Mine looks more like cowhide than tie dye :lmao: I used a light colored pink shirt and brown Tulip dye. The brown didn't come out very dark or bright and there's some strange yellows & blues that came out?? Also, my MM came out as a blob, so I used the bleach pen. I did two shirts and the other I can't even show :headache: cuz it's like an ugly, orangy, rust color (I used a white shirt for that one) with two blobs that were supposed to be MM. so here it is the cowhide........

Lots of white for some reason but not too bad I guess.

i've been following this thread forever! my mom and i finally got to do our shirts today. this 24 hour wait is killing me! we have 3 adult shirts and a 12 month size shirt. we followed the directions and since we use to do tye dye when i was little (using rit dyes on the stove in big pots!) we had a clue as to what we were doing with the rubberbands.

to keep me occupied for a few minutes, i used the same mickey head template that was posted and used it on another set of shirts to do with iron on rhinestones. mom and i bought magenta/pinkish shirts at lane bryant. great shirts cause they are just plain v-neck! i had a TON of little purple rhinestones left over from my wedding 2 years ago. the shirts came out really cute (even though my mickey head is a little crooked! :rotfl: )

i shall post pics of both when the shirts are done tomorrow afternoon.

thanks for all the pic's posted! i really like them all! you've all given me ideas to make more of a local tye dye inspiration. i'll definitely work on that after my trip!

ps- in college one year, our union board did tye dye shirts for spring fling. hand dyed shirts. all were completely different. they sold out the 1st batch and then made several more batches. campus was about 8k students. EVERYBODY had a shirt! it was always my fav. campus shirt and i still own it 12 years later! i guess i can pull that out too for a pic!

Great job everyone!

Those socks are ADORABLE. My kids are going to try their hands at dying this weekend, I might have to do some socks too!!

wondering if you put all the t-shirts in the wash together after dyeing? Also did you put any vinegar in the wash water? Tie-Dye my shirts yesterday, planning on washing them around 24hr mark...any suggestions would be great!
Thanks

Hi, if all your shirts are the same colors, yes you can wash them all together. I use Synthrapol detergent, but if you don't have it, you can use mild soap and sprinkle some salt. I'd heard about vinegar too but never tried :confused3
Use cold water! :laundy:

Hi,
First, thanks for so many tips, pictures and ideas. Love this thread...been reading since the the beginning. Your shirts look fantastic...very impressed.:worship:

I helped my friend make these today for her upcoming trip (Their 1st WDW Vacation) and they are so very excited. I want to make sure I tell her correctly. FYI..she used Tulip dyes and we under mixed them a bit to help keep the color vibrant. We made 5 shirts. They are in the wait 24 hour process now.

I am unclear about the detergent and/or salt. Do you use both? :confused3
I am sure she doesn't have the detergent you mentioned; so would she use regular laundry soap? How much? I didn't even realize you use soap. How much salt? Regular table salt?

Hope you are ready to hang me up by now with my many questions.... Thanks again for your help. :goodvibes

BTW Pixie..we are neighbors; I live in Loganville. I am thinking we need a N. Ga Dis meet one of these days. :woohoo:

Hi Cherokeemamma! Yes we need to do a meet. We are next door :)

OK, about the detergent, I never had to use the syntrhopol with the tulips, I use it with the dharma to prevent the running from darker colors to the lighter colors, with tulip I used regular mild soap, and just sprinkle some regular salt, them put them in the dyer on the low heat or air fluffy whatever that means, not the regular hot setting, and i get mine out when they still damp and hang them to dry.

Did you use the soda ash? I found Tulip makes and Michaels sells the Tulip soda ash - that helps hold the color - and keep it vibrant!

I use regular table salt - we went to Sam's Club and dh found a HUGE box cheaper than the small box at the regular grocery store - he laughed saying it was a "lifetime supply" :rolleyes1

not anymore!!

I rinsed mine - rinse rinse, rinse rinse, forever rinsing in the sink in cool water - finally I threw in 1/2 cup salt - and let it set 2 - 5 min - then rinsed - no more bleed!!

Love these tie-dyed shirts! My daughter and I are going to DL Tuesday for her birthday, so we're going to make some tank tops (going to be 88*...ugh!). I'll let you know how they turn out.

BTW, I'm doing a Minnie...I love the bow on her head!

We just got done with out second attempt at concentric circles. We'll post the pics tomorrow.

I am hoping to make my second batch this week. My first batch turned out okay but there is WAY ToO MUCH white on them.......:scared1:

So....I will try to post pictures...I am hoping to do Christmas colors and a NYE shirt that my son has asked me to do. :thumbsup2

Everyone is doing a great job!!! I am so inspired.
