The colors are much brighter in person! We love them! Can't wait to try more!

Got the stuff tonight to make 14 shirts! Cannot believe I'm about to do this. :upsidedow

Anyone have suggestions for making them in bulk?

My only suggestion for bulk tiedying is making sure you have enough plastic bags to put your stuff in AHEAD OF TIME so you don't have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off searching for one.

*Honestly, we had enough!! We just didn't think to bring a bag for dirty paper towels too and used one of the bags designated for shirts as a trash bag. Therefore we were one bag short and this resulted in a what I imagine to be funny scene, involving 2 dogs and a cat escaping as the door to the house was opened, someone standing outside with a dripping dyed shirt screaming at the dogs to get back in the house while I ran through the house as fast as I could trying to find a bag in time to go retrieve the cat before he got too far*

I always have the groceries plastic bag ready to wrap each shirt. Making many shirts at once can be crazy, so make sure you have enough supplies ready and nearby. :thumbsup2

I have to re-do two of my shirts, here is my question...how do you avoid all of the white? I peeled back my layers and added dye to the cracks, but I still ended with more white than I expected in the center. How do you get dye in there without disturbing either the Mickey head or taking the shirt totally apart?

I just put enough dye on the slices. :confused3 the mickey will be fine because is separated by the rubber bands.

I had this problem, too. The first shirts I did, I kind of rushed through them. I spent a little time adding dye to the folds and I had a lot of white.

My second try, I took it much slower. I would add some dye, wait a minute or so, then go back and check the folds. I probably spent 30-40 minutes on each shirt. The second go around came out beautifully. As Pixie said, don't worry too much about the Mickey head because it is separated by the rubber bands (and I also wrap plastic around the head to keep it from rubbing against the rest of the shirt).

I agree ♥ take your time. This shirts are TIME CONSUMING from the very first step to the end, they take time.

I'd made lots of them but not many at the same time, what I do is make half and then another half. The most I made at once were 15 and it was exhausting, then you might get frustrated and your results won't be the same.

I did some research, but but somehow this step is totally confusing me, lol. What do I do with the bleach pen? After I wash my Mickey tie-dye shirt, then I outline the Mickey with a Clorox bleach pen, and wash the shirt again? Thank you!! :thumbsup2

ETA: I just looked through a few more posts ... so you tie-dye the Mickey, let it sit for 12-24 hours, and then unfold it to bleach pen the Mickey, let it dry, and then wash?

ETA again: I used the 100% cotton tops from Walmart before, and they turned out great! But what I'm looking for, is 100% cotton regular t-shirts, like in the craft aisle at Michael's, but full cotton. I'm looking for a regular cut t-shirt this time, just like those popular ones at WDW now that are $15 with a classic Mickey and all different colors. I don't want anything fitted.

I'd love to do these for our trip in June. I need to make 3 adult and 3 kid shirts. I know you can't give me an exact amount, but how much dye is typically used for per shirt. I'd like to order the dye and am having a hard time with how much. Another problem is picking from the variety of colors!

you can do primary colors (yellow, turquoise, fuchsia red) overlap them to make secondary colors. 1-2oz of each is plenty, or you can get one of the dharma kits.

Wal mart have 100% cotton in the men deparment.

The bleach pen is after dying, washing and drying the shirts.

Made my 1st batch of shirts tonight. I did 7 and wow did they wear me out! I'm worried I didn't use enough dye. And I made a total mess. But we'll see how they turn out in 24 hours. Note to self, use the gloves! I can't post pictures yet, but as soon as I do you'll be able to see my dyed hands.

I made 5 shirts yesterday, and followed the instructions on the first page of this thread. I am wondering though if my mickey heads will truly come out distinct from the other colors around it. I placed the elastics just below my basting stiches, but there was probably 1/2 inch of fabric between the bottom of the stitches and the elastics. Are you supposed to put the elastics as close to the stitches as possible, or is it ok that I left a little room? I guess in another 12 hours I'll have my answer, but that was the only part that confused me a little.

 So far so good! I just washed mine out and I LOVE them! They are now in the washing machine and then I will take some more pictures. They all turned out different. Some I like better than others (but hey it's tie dye, that supposed to happen). I think I'm going to have to bleach pen some. Oh well the overall shape is there. :woohoo: So excited! :yay:

My hands after scrubbing them with mineral spirits. Will use gloves next time:

Pixie, I figure you are the one to ask about this. I just don't trust the color swatches on Dharma because they look different from my computer to my friend's computer...so here's my question: Can you tell me which dyes equate to kind of the "basic" colors? Which red is a true red? Which green is really green? I guess what I'm trying to say is, at least on my screen, the chinese red looks a little orangey, is that how it turns out or is it not so orange? The kelly green looks so light on my screen, but the emerald looks deeper, any experience? Ok so that's several questions. What I need is:

A true red
A bright basic yellow
A clear bright blue
A clear emerald green
A rich purple
A good black that won't go navy blue

I know you can mix and all that but honestly I'd rather just be able to go "Oh here, I'll make some purple and here's the handy purple dye". Any help would be great!
