Just thinking outloud here.....Do you have to use rubber bands? I have some nylonish twine that I could really tie down tight? I am sure I could get it much tighter than rubber bands. What does anyone think?

I did my Christmas shirts - liked working with the dharma dyes but had some trouble with the red - it just didn't seem to dissolve all the way and the bottle clogged a few times and some of my mickeys are blotchy but overall I am happy with how they came out - they kind of remind me of peppermints. I'm glad I decided on the darker green for sure.

Well after buying the shirts months ago, I finally got up the courage to try this today. My gloves were useless so my hands are bright red. I am usually very crafty, but this time I am not so sure and I am so nervous for tomorrow to unwrap them. I figre if I messed up we have $40 woth of nightshirts.

I was going to just do one but the dye said you had to use it within 45 minutes or it wouldn't work so I figured I paid more for the dye then I did the shirts so I'd just go for it. Probably a bad idea looking at it now.

I am so in envy of all of you who are so good at this. They are beautiful. It was fun stitching the Mickeys, but the dye...I don't know.

I think the main reason to use rubber bands is because it acts as a resist to the dye (someone, please correct me if I'm wrong). The twine may let the dye soak through.

OK, so they aren't nearly as good as many here, but I am so shocked and pleased with my shirts! The Mickeys are perfect, if I do say so myself! I am so shocked with them! I thought I was over dyeing. In fact I thought they were going to be brown with too much color and blending, in reality, I could have used more dye as there is a lot of white. But I love them! I am so excited I tried! I can't wait for 50 days to get there and wear them!

I know I am a newbie to this but I have 2 suggestions for anyone interested in trying for the first time.

1. If anyone has the Disney Wheel of Fortune game, it works perfectly for the outline.

2. And this is important IMO. I used the gloves that came with the kit. They were useless. They leaked from the get go and even when I doubled them up they were not so great and hard to work with. My hands were neon red (getting better) but the worst partit they are now really dry and all my nails are peeling and I have had all but 2 break off, so get better gloves and WEAR THEM!!! I wish I had.

Honestly, the night I did them I was convinced they were way too wet with dye and expected them to be all brown and awful in the morning. I could have never envisioned that they would have actually turned out the way they did. I do see them as a work of art. In fact I have them spread out over the couch to look at, I can't stop looking at them and thin king "I made these!" So yes, now I see exactly what you mean in "a work of art" but it was hard to believe that would be the outcome that first night.

Than ks soooo much for the ideas and tips, II am so pleased, even my teenage daughter thinks they are cool and she normally rolls her eyes at each new matching t-shirts.

Hey! I did it! I made the shirts and you can too! AND I posted photos. As you can see, not as full of color as they could be, but I am happy with them.

He helped pick everything out and wants to participate. Normally I do all crafty things. I told him he is doing it himself, I can't wait to see how they turn out. I am very excited. Ok, after reading this whole thread, I bought several shirts from Jiffy Shirts. They have sat in the box they were delivered in for over a week now LOL

Today I bought the erasable fabric pencil and the non mint waxed dental floss.

Tonight I am hoping to print the stencil to put on the shirts and maybe even draw it out!!

I have looked at the different tie dye kits, both jacquard and tulip at michaels and walmart. I am thinking the tulip kit at michaels with a 40% off coupon will be a good tester start, then if I like it and do well, I can use another coupon and get a bigger kit and have at it!!
