Arts and Crafts **Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

I LOVE this shirt....so if I am looking at this right after watching my various techniques dvd from the jacquard kit :) Did you scrunch the top and the bottom in different ways and rubber band between but leave mickey as usual? I am thinking this might be a good method for the red and green...so many choices.....:)

Also - I got this jacquard kit that says red but in the video the red looked pretty darn pink - has anyone tried it and is it really red? I"m going to ACM tomorrow to get more dye anyway as I need to do 7 shirts but wanted to make sure it is red.

Thanks!

maria

OK you probably have the primary Kit. The primary colors as we all know are: Turquoise blue, Yellow and Red, however the red is not like the Red we all know, the American flag red, the primary red is "Fuchsia red". So it would be pink NOT RED.

YOu need to buy RED or like me I make my own experiments with red, also Dharma has FIRE RED and CHINESE RED those are very red.

As for the way I tied it, Yes, I did the Mickey like my instructions and then tied the shirt with lots of rubber bands to get the pattern.

Sorry Stacie I didn't see the question.

OK, You must use Soda Ash, also known was Sodium Carbonate, PH UP. I don't know what the other soda is, but if is not SODIUM CARBONATE is no good.

The box says it's sodium carbonate. I know someone else had posted that they had used that instead of buying the little package of soda ash. The big box costs about 1/2 as much as a little package!!

Yes! You got it. It is much better than the little packages at the craft store. Its the same thing, I also buy the big jar from home depot, you can also find it at Wal Mart where all the swimming pool products, right now they are on SALE :thumbsup2 Yes its much cheaper, you know we are paying from the craft brand on the same product! So you are good, sodium carbonate is the magic word! :thumbsup2

missesdisney- If you look at my post with the pics of the tank tops, I did those with the Jacquard kit (the white box with the pictures of shirts on the front that comes with the dvd). Its definitely NOT RED. It's a fuschia/hot pink by itself, but oddly enough to makes a great orange if you mix it with the yellow. Also the blue isn't really BLUE but more of an turquoise/aqua.

Yes, because the Primary colors are :Turquoise, fuchsia red, and lemon yellow. From there you make secondary colors...

Fuchsia + yellow= Orange.
Turquoise + Yellow= Green.
Turquoise + Fuchsia= Purple

In order to get a true red, you need to purchase a true red shade.

Thank you all for the info on the red and the tips!

I decided since I'm doing so many that I will buy a couple of cheap kids shirts today and experiment first. I want to try the bullseye but not sure how that will work and also that half and half so I think I'm going to just mess around and then my son can have some extra non-mickey just tie dyed shirts after.

Will post results when done - hopefully this week!

It depends what color wheel you're using what colors are considered primary, but yes in the case of that kit, it is turquoise fuschia and lemon. I recently bought a kid themed tiedye kit (only 4 bucks I figured I'd give it a shot) and the dyes from there were legit yellow red and blue.

I'm talking in the tie dye 'world' :) Dharma's dyes are the same, primary red is also fuchsia, same as for the tulip kit, the primary red is always fuchsia regardless of the color wheel.

I get that they mix better secondary colors but I don't get why they can't just call them what they are. I bet there's been more than one disappointed person who has bought a kit thinking they were getting red and blue, not fuschia and turquoise.

I totally agree with you! It happened to me too back when I started doing tie dye and other art with dyes and paints.
It looks pink not red but Dharma people told me that is the shade mix that makes it primary. :confused3 I don't know, but you're right people that are not familiar buy something thinking that is the correct shade. :sad2:

a few more ideas...

LOVE the Halloween shirts! Nice job - you are always an inspiration!

I will post pics of my test shirts late but they sure are turquoise and pink!

I got the technique experience I needed on them though which was the point. And the jacquard dyes are so much more vibrant than the tulip I did last year.

I am going to order dharma and wait to dye the real shirts for a week or so (I have one weekend to do it). Do you order from dharma directly?

What specific colors do you recommend for christmas red and green and how much do I need for 7 shirts (xl on a few of the adults).

Thanks!

Maria

THank you! :goodvibes

Yes, Jacquard kit dyes are way better.

Yes, you can order from their website, make sure you order on a Monday and pick the 3 day deliver UPS, since they are located in CA takes forever on ground shipping, if you order on Monday before 11AM you should received them on Thursday.
As for the colors, Chinese red or fire red, those take double the amount of dye than most of them, for 7 shirts you only need one 2oz jar of each color. Green you can go with Bright Green.

:thumbsup2

Dyed my shirts last night and am having a hard time not wanting to check on them early. :rolleyes1

Should I really wait the 24 hours or is 18 enough?? Also where can I find a bleach pen didn't have any luck at Target.

Terri

I got my bleach pen at Target less than an hour ago. It's not with the bleach (go figure), in my store, it was on the bottom shelf in the same aisle with the fabric softener.

Here more ideas for ya!

This one is Navy blue but it looks black on the pic, and a mix of a couple blue shades, I wanted this light pretty blue...

And these are my models :) my girls, I made matching shirts for our trip to the beach, we always do white tees and jeans but the girls wanted tie dye, we went to eat after the pics that day and we had so many complements, lots of people asking where we got them. Not Mickey shirts can look cool too.
