Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Wow! 39 hours is a long time. I had never let them sit that long. I had let mine sit for 24 the most and 6-8 hours some of them with the same result on colors.

Here is my bandana. Someone at the YMCA gave me a white one, so of course I'm going to dye it. I always wear a bandana when I workout.

Here is an extra shirt I made.

OMG!!! What beautiful shirts from everyone!! I was planning to just do an iron on transfer for our handmade shirts for this trip.....but looking at these....I just can't resist making these instead!! I am realistic and understand that mine won't be as perfect as all of these, but we will give it a try anyway!

My kids will be so excited! We have tie-dyed once before (basic, blotchy design only)...they will be so happy to do it again.....but this time with MICKEY and spiraled!! Oooooo....I'm excited.

Thanks to everyone for all the great instructions, tips and ideas!

I did both, iron on shirts and tye dye shirts for us. My shirts were my first attempt and they turned out pretty good. Just go by the directions and be careful, they will be great.

Good luck

What dyes did you use for the red/green one. I want to make a set to wear to MVMCP this year.

Also for the expert, how long will the dye powders keep? I still have Procion dye unmixed from the my last batch of shirts, and am wondering is they are still usable.

Hi all!! I found this thread a while ago, but now that my trip is 11 days away, I thought I would stop by and share that I made my shirts today!!! The instructions with the dye say to let it sit for 24 hours, so right now I am waiting! I am so excited to see how they turn out. I will post pics when they are finished! (Unless they turned out terribly...:scared1:)

My package from Dharma came today. I sewed the mickeys with the floss and now I'm washing the shirts to get all of the store sizing off before the soda ash soak. I'm doing seven today and another 6 next week. I'm a little nervous but here goes nothing!

PixieDust32! You're in Flowery Branch!!!! We're Falcons season ticket holders (even though we live in Pennsylvania!)

Here's my progress so far! I am totally dying (ha!) to rinse and open them!

My shirts are done!! I am pretty happy with the results! I am trying to decide if I should use the bleach pen to outline Mickey's head or if I am going to use some puffy paints for the outline. Any thoughts?

Here are my shirts. These first two are for DS. The red one came out better than the yellow one.

These next two are mine and DH. These green ones turned out the best!

Finally, these are my DSis, DMom, and DBro.

Not too bad for my first attempt! They are hanging up downstairs drying right now. I am super excited for everyone to see them. Only DH knows about the shirts, so I think I am going to save them and surprise everyone once we are down there. Thanks for all the tips!

Some Halloweeny colors....... These are for the Cruise everybody picked different styles, shirts, blouses, tanks. DH likes collar polos .....

The yellow is hard to do, I had tried and its too light to stand out.

You did very good for your first time :thumbsup2 if you want to try the pen or paint, try on a piece of cloth first so you don't run your shirts in case of an accident. :thumbsup2

And finally, the end result:

These turned out GREAT! Thank you for sharing your shirts with us. What brand of dyes did you use and what are the names of the colors? Your colors are so BOLD and BRIGHT! I am still up in the air if I am going to do shirts for us, but if I do I rea;;y want bold colors like this!

Hey PixieDust...another PixieDust here! LOL. Great work as usual! When your shirts are twirled and bundled up how do you apply the different colors of dye? Your spirals are SOOOOOO well defined. The last time I did spiral shirts my spiral didn't come out great. I think I am putting the dye on wrong. I have always put a different color (or alternated 2 colors) in the "Pie slices" created by the rubber bands. Should I be doing it different? Do you have any pics? Thanks!
