I LOVE these!!! How did you get your Mickey heads so perfect? Did you use a resistance of some sort? My DD would LOVE that dress! :lovestruc I have looked and looked and tried and tried (different directions) to make the Mickey tie dye for my DS's b-day trip at the end of August and none of them came out. :( I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Do you have a thread with how you do yours or could you pm me with instructions? I might be able to talk DH into trying 1 more time.....:scared1: I just know the kids would love them!

Hi ♥ Thank you :lovestruc

No, I don't use any kind of resist or product, only rubber bands :thumbsup2

I do have a thread, check it out...

You just need a lot of patience :lovestruc Good Luck and have fun!

That's how you get the spiral, you twist the shirt from the center, then you alternate the colors, you make slices, one color, lets say, red, then blue, then yellow and so on, then on the bottom you do the same, red on the red slice and so on, you should get the spiral. Same if you have 2 colors, you alternate...

Looking for some help, pretty please. We've done one set of shirts using the Jaquard Fuschia, Lemon, Turquoise kits. They turned out great. I've decided to get brave and attempt spirals like your pink and black, but with black and gold (for my Steelers). I bought PR3 Golden Yellow, PR44 Better Black, and PR300 New Black along with the Urea and Soda Ash. I don't think we're doing Mickey Heads just spirals (If I did decide to do the Mickey Head, I'd just leave it white).

Questions:

I love how true your black is on that Pink and Black one. Could you let me know what measurements you use? I was thinking I'd do 4 tsp of each black along with the 8 oz. water.

When I dye, in order to get the spiral do I need to leave any white between the two colors?

I'm so, so sorry for all these questions. I'm just so nervous about screwing it up. Your work is so amazing and that pink/black is what inspired me to try to do a Steelers black and gold.

Thanks!

Mary

Hi Mary,

Thank you! OK on the dharma I think is 4tsp for 4oz if the have ** . So if the have ** like the blacks do, the yield is 8tsp per 8oz of water.

Yes you can leave a little space in between the colors to get little white.

I'd made steelers colors in the past. I got a gold color and black, here is the pic...

Just a tip that at The Boardwalk hotel they are making similar shirts in the activity shack. The way they do it- is just rubber band around the "head" then 2 more for ears. Pull that up and then twist and rubber band the rest. You just have to keep the dye the same on the head- the rest is a free for all.

They were not as clean and cool as these but just another option for those that want to try in a simplier way.

Hi! I love this thread - my sister, friends and I have been tie-dying Mickeys, patterns and just regular tie-dye all week!

I bought the Tide bleach pen, but the outline didn't show up around one of the shirts that needed it. Should I use another type, like the gel? :confused3

I have combed through several hundred posts in this and couple other threads (thanks to PixieDust32 and everyone else who have put them together by the way) and can't find the answer to a couple questions. I was hoping maybe someone here could help.

In regards to the spiral designs, what determines the widthe of the color band? Is it the width of the color section you dye or is it more dependant on how tight you wind the spiral? Also is filling in the creases how you decrease the white areas that cross the color bands?

DD and I are very excited to try these. I think we are going to cheat a little and use iron ons for the mickey heads, but we love the look of the pictures posted on the threads.

TIA.

HI!

Yes its the width of the section, the wider the area the bigger the band would be. I just add the dye and depending on the size of the t shirt the size of the bands, or you can make more of each color.

okay so im getting ready to tie dye my mickey shirts. i made a mistake and bought some 50/50 so im going to use those as my test run. i have the 100% cotton now I just need to stitch the heads on those, but still want to test the 50/50's first.

ok a few questions..i bought the jacquard brand. i want to mix colors, so do i mix them while they are liquid or mix powder first then add water?

i had 2 more questions and now having brain fart...will leave that question and repost when I remember.

thanks
jenn

whats the best color combo to make black?

and could someone list the amounts they add to colors to make other colors. i bought a kit with fuschia, yellow and turquois and then a purple and a brown

thanks

the 50/50 is going to look faded, so don't worry, it would no be you or the dye.

As for mixing the kits dye, well I had never tried since those are already in the bottle, I guess it would be like a teaspoon of each color, so I don't know would you mix them up. I had only mixed them as I dyed the garment, like the yellow with the blue to make green, the blue with the red to make purple etc..

I have no idea :confused3 I'd always buy those colors since they are popular, I had never tried on mixing them myself.

thanks pixie, i guess ill just buy them, i cant seem to find black though so i guess ill just figure it out.

Heres another question

how long do the mixed dyes last in the bottle? once ive mixed the colors can i save any unused for a day or two?

I have just spent hours reading this whole thread - wow!!! Have definitely been inspired to give this a go.

Has anyone from England done this? Just wondering where best to get the dyes from.
