Those are totally awesome!!! I am going to make some Halloweeny ones soon. I was actually thinking black orange and yellow but this looks so good I may have to do purple instead! TFS- we'll see here soon how mine come out, they will be my first attempt! :thumbsup2

I have been eyeing this thread for a while and just shown it to my daughter. She really wants to try it so I am sure we will try it soon. Everyone's shirts look great. It is a little imtimidating. Oh well I am sure we will have fun trying to get it right.

Think I'll be seeing these in 48 days!! (I'm going to attempt them too!).

Can I be twisting my shirts to tight? I am having a hard time getting the dye into the folds. I have done 2 practice sets of shirts and they both have ended up with to much white. When doing the 2nd go round I soaked them and still got way to much white. Thank you for all your help!!

Hi there,

I spent a lot of time reading the first 50 pages of this thread yesterday! I want to try this but am nervous. I want to tie dye and also use an iron on transfer for the mickey head. The shirts in this post are amazing!!

So my question is will this work with an iron on transfer (black mickey head)? And if so, should I do the iron first then tie dye or tie dye then iron on????

Thanks,
duck_widow

I'm planning on ironing-on after I dye. I'm just doing the jack-o-lantern face parts though, not the whole Mickey head.

I would dye, then iron-on. That way you know where to place the face, the parameters to work within.

Thanks. That's what I'll try. I'm thinking of getting the regular white transfers since my image is mostly black I hope it doesn't matter as far as the tie dye design showing through the transfer. I'm also thinking of keeping the middle section white where the transfer will go.

I am hoping to make my first attempt at some of these shirts this weekend! Does anyone have a mickey head template? I am not too good at drawing things freehand.

Here's the template. I printed it out on cardstock to make it easier to draw around when you make your basting line. I also used it again to outline the head after dyeing to outline the head with the bleach pen.

Here's my latest attempt, not real happy with them. I think I figured out part of the problem is that I'm not getting enough of the water wrung out after soaking in the soda ash solution. Next time, I think I'll run them through a spin cycle in my washing machine before doing the tie dying.

I think those are great!

I am wussing out and only doing a single color. Once I have my shirt ready in pizza form, do I apply die to the whole thing or just every other section etc.

They look fine! You have to have some water in the shirt, soda ash water so the dye can "cure", the garment has to be moist. Just stick the bottle tip into the folds.
