Tickets and MBs

Heya-
I have scanned the stickys and other related posts, talked to the Disney people on the phone and am still lost.

I had an annual pass that expired in May. I know that I cannot "renew" the annual pass. I have the Magic Bands to that pass.

I am going down in October and staying offsite with family. With FP+, can I buy tickets ahead of time (now) and link them to the MDE app, thereby being able to book FP+ at some point? Will that work with purchasing an annual pass? Or can I buy tickets, then upgrade those tickets to an annual pass at some point when I'm there?

Or am I stuck because I'm staying with family?

You can buy tickets now or an AP for your October vacation and link them to MDE to make your FP selections. Because you are staying off site, you would book them 30 days out. You can also buy tickets now and upgrade to an AP once you're there if you wish.

1- Those MBs can still be used on future trips (even if you ALSO get new MBs at some point.)**

2- Yes. As early as 30 days before your first day in the park(s.)

3- Yes.

**Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Awesome. I have two bands from different annual passes (one in "testing phase" and one from last year), but didn't let the pass expire until now. Answers I got from Disney:
1. No, you have to wait until you active the pass at the park.
2. You have to stay on-site, can I book you a room?
3. You have to be a Florida resident in order to have FP+ for annual passes.

Wow, 3-3 with wrong answers. That level of incompetence is difficult to achieve for any customer service.

1) This is true if you don't already have MBs, but if you do you can link them to an AP voucher. All correctly linked MBs are interchangeable.

2) You can make FP+ selections on any valid ticket within the next 30 days

3) Completely wrong in every way.

Yup.

It is generally a waste of a phone call to ask a "Phone CM" about park operations.

They have no real information about that, so you'll often
get a made-up "answer."
