sorry, I can't figure out the correct words to search for this.....

How long is a 9 day park pass good for? Appears maybe 13 days?
And how in the world are they priced??
When I select the starting date and work backwards, It is cheaper if I start on the 13th when we really won't be there until the 17th

That’s not at all unusual. We bought 6-day tickets that start two days before we arrive and 3 days before our first park day. As long as they end on our last park day, it doesn’t matter.

Date based tix.... so if I buy a 7 day pass good for one block of dates, and then later change my mind, and want to skip a day,and use one or two days later than that original week, how does that work?

As long as the new date(s) still falls within the valid use window, you are good. A 7-day ticket is valid for 10 days from the designated start date.

A 9-day ticket has a 13-day use window of when it can be used. Dates can be non-consecutive within that 13-day window, or grouped at the beginning or end of the window.

Tickets are date-based and the price varies based on the start date. WDW decides which dates are more expensive -- likely weekends, holidays and seasonal demand such as school vacations.

Yes, you can buy a ticket that starts before you plan to use it. A 9-day ticket starting on the 13th of the month is valid through the 25th; a 9-day ticket starting on the 17th of the month is valid through the 29th. As long as your park days all fall within the window you are good.

so guessing it IS smart to play with the 'beginning date' and see where it is cheapest as long as it includes my end date?
Do people know to do that?
I figured that out on one of the touring plans that has an option to find discount tickets for me.
I kept thinking it was making a mistake on my dates.
(haven't been to WDW since pre-covid and all the changes)

I don't know what it looks like on other sites, but when buying tickets from the WDW site it clearly shows there are differences in price depending on the start date:

WDW shifted to ticket prices based on date back in 2018.

I can't figure out the pricing because, in your example, if I start on the 2nd, it drops the price of the ticket by $2. If I start on the 4th instead, it drops it $4

Hi!
We have reservations at BWV for March 1-8 should I buy Park Tickets now or can I wait another month or 2? TIA!

@cropper Once you select the start date, scroll down the page and you will see all of the ticket options and pre-tax pricing. If you click a different start date, the pricing updates. It also shows what the dates the ticket is valid for based on the number of days selected.

You can wait right until your trip but you risk ticket prices going up. Prince increases are not announced in advance. Typically prices will go up in Feb but not sure if there might be another increase between now and your trip or not.

You will pay more if you wait and purchase your tickets at the gate.

I buy my tickets as soon as I'm reasonable certain of my dates, on the theory that you never know when they'll raise the prices, especially on the date-based tickets where they could increase a little on one day or another without making any announcements. If budget is an issue, you could consider buying one ticket at a time. Also be sure to check the authorized resellers like Undercover Tourist or Boardwalk Ticketing, for discounted prices, or to buy discounted Disney gift cards and use those to buy from Disney directly.

I do realize that. But the $ listed on the day and the total makes no sense to me. Just trying to figure that out

The $ listed on the day is the average daily price if you buy a ticket of the desired length that starts on that date. In the example given, a 9 day ticket starting December 1 costs an average of $86/day = $774 and could be used any of the 9 days highlighted, including 12/13. But a 9 day ticket starting December 2 averages $85/day = $765, and if you click on December 2 the highlighted dates will end on 12/14.

I just want to check, if I buy a 2 day ticket and decide I would like to add a 3rd day, can I do that anytime on day 2? or do I have to do it before entering a park on day 2?

Anytime before park close on the day you use the 2nd entitlement.

Hoping someone can clarify upgrading to an annual pass from a 7 day PH ticket purchased from UT. The start date is 12/27. We will be there until 1/2. The ticket is actually good for any 7 days through 1/5. I already have an AP. DH is now retired and we will be visiting our CM DD the end of March during Spring Break for another 8 days and probably more times after that. It is cheaper to upgrade his tickets when we are there for our December trip to include the March trip and then he will be able to go anytime he wants through 12/27? next year. I am thinking of doing the upgrade on 1/1 because I am concerned that if we do it beforehand he will not be able to get a park reservation for 12/31 at Epcot. DD and I already have reservations there for that night and he doesn't need them because of the dated ticket. Is this actually an issue or would he still be able to get in if we upgrade prior to the 31st? Do we upgrade to the pass any day before he enters the park for his 7th day? I don't want to mess things up and not be able to upgrade. If I understand correctly, we will pay the difference between a current AP price and a current 7 day PH ticket price as if we purchased the ticket from Disney. Is this correct? Thanks for your help with this. I just want to know what to expect and not mess anything up.

Yes, he will need a park reservation once you upgrade to AP.

You can do the upgrade at any point up until park close on the day he uses the 7th entitlement.

The credit towards upgrade will be the difference between the current AP price and the price WDW sold the same 7-day ticket at the time the ticket was purchased. If there has been a price increased since that time the credit will not be the current WDW online price.

Thank you. I don't believe the ticket price has changed since I bought the ticket from UT. I just bought it from them due to the savings. I think I will wait to the first to upgrade it then. Don't want to risk him not being able to get a reservation for any of the other days. Thanks again.

I have what I think is a convoluted question that I can't figure out after reading various stickied threads, including this and the reservation thread, but maybe not?

We are DVC, staying onsite and we have 4-day non-hopper Canadian resident tickets for which I chose Tuesday Nov. 19 as our first park visit. That is our arrival day and barring a big flight delay, I was planning on visiting HS that night and upgrading our tickets to APs.

Looking at our plans for the week, I'm thinking that it might be in our favor to NOT upgrade the first day and instead wait until the 3rd day.

This is so we can be extra flexible as to which park we attend on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st because the real factor that will influence which park we attend and when will be if we get Tiana VQs in the morning. Not upgrading would free us of the need to change our AP park reservation which I know, no longer seems to be a big deal but still is an extra step before entering a park. It looks like Wednesday 20th is still a day that requires an AP reservation, whereas Thursday is an AP free day.

Thursday afternoon is the first instance in which we would likely require the hopping feature of the AP so I am inclined to do it then, before we attend MVMCP that afternoon. We would then make reservations for AK on Friday 22nd and HS on Saturday 23rd.

Is there any logistical error that I'm not seeing with this plan?

The other wrench is that in claiming Tuesday Nov. 19 as the first day of our ticket, the total was slightly less money than entering our first park on Wednesday (maybe by a dollar?) If we decide we don't even want to enter a park until Wednesday, what happens to the difference in ticket price?
Thanks in advance!
