Ticket Upgrade on Magic Band?

I bought 7-day park hoppers through UT and since then was able to move my flight home later in the day so we'll be able to get 8 days in the parks (yay!).

I know I can visit any guest relations at the parks to upgrade my ticket (should just be the difference between a 7-day hopper and an 8-day hopper, right? which is $21)

My real question is, knowing that I want to upgrade my tickets, should I link them to my magic band? I don't want to link them and then find out they can't be upgraded.

I haven't been to Disney since they began magic bands so I confess I'm ignorant as to how they work... other than they are tied to your MDE account.

1. The cost difference (cost to upgrade) between a 7-day ticket and an 8-day ticket is $10.65, per ticket (including tax.)

2. Link all tickets to your MDE account. When you upgrade, the upgraded ticket will
appear in your MDE.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to USE your UT ticket (via the MB is fine) at least one time to enter a Theme Park BEFORE you do the upgrade.

Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "put onto" or "linked to" a MagicBand.

A MagicBand just contains (and weakly "transmits") a unique serial number that is used to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's
to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.

So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.

The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Thanks, Robo. What I still don't understand is in the past if I were to upgrade my tickets, I'd hand over my tickets to Guest Relations, pay the difference, and they'd issue me new tickets. But how does that work with magic bands? Will Guest Relations give me new 8-day physical tickets and I have to find a way to go online to enter my new confirmation # on my MDE account? I guess the real question is how will my MDE account know that I've changed from 7 days to 8 days?

Hmmm... now that I'm thinking about it, how do I book advance fast passes for that 8th day. Guessing I can't. Any way to upgrade a ticket BEFORE my trip or am I just out of luck?

1. They CAN do that, if you want a hard-copy of the new ticket.
2. No. It will be done automatically if your original tickets were put into your MDE account.
3. If you put your UT tickets into your MDE account, all of the ticket booths and Guest Relations will have access to your MDE account
(based on your name, and/or your ticket number, or by just scanning your MB.)

And, again, a MB is not required (or really directly involved) in any of these transactions.
It is just another way to access the ticket info and other things.

1. Correct.
2. Not before your trip, but, you will be able to do so immediately (smart phone) upon upgrading your ticket.

OK so I think I'm understanding. I didn't realize that Guest Relations would be able to sign into my MDE account and change the # of days there.

I haven't linked my tickets yet because I didn't want to mess anything up knowing that I want to do an upgrade as soon as I'm there. Stinks about not being able to book fast passes for that 8th day. Oh well.

Thanks so much, Robo!

It's easier if you think of it not as "your" MDE account, but it is DISNEY'S MDE account, containing your info.

To upgrade tickets when you have them linked to a MB, all they do is scan your band. It's very easy.

Oh, and I would recommend skipping making FPs for your AK day when you book them in advance/before you upgrade your ticket. If you do the upgrade on the first day of your trip (after you've used at least one park admission), then you'll still have plenty of time to book FP+s for your AK day. There should still be plenty of availability even just the day before.
