Ticket Prices To Increase On 8/6/06 ** UPDATE:INCLUDING ANNUAL PASSES **

 Thanks Carol...I actually just posted again in the DVC thread about the same topic, but you seem to have answered my question here, so just ignore me..... :rolleyes1

Thanks!!

Everytime Disney raises prices I get concerned. Not so much because of the current increase, but looking to the future. At the rate they are raising ticket prices in about 7 to 10 years ticket prices will be tough to swallow.

A $70 single day admission ticket today will cost approximately $150 in 10 years at the rate they are increasing prices year to year. YIKES!!!

Admission to Disney will be like attending a professional sporting event. Only corporations will be able to afford it.

I think that is the biggest concern of all.....

Whew. I am so glad, I paid my package off last week. Thanks OP!! My mother, was waiting till the last minute. But, since you posted this. I saved her some money. She paid in full today!!Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Do you think it's because of our weak dollar? Isn't it cheaper now for foreign tourists to come here?

:confused3

Keep in mind that folks have been saying exactly for at least the last 20 years. It hasn't happened yet.

Glad for the info. I already had my new annual pass bought so I wen't and bought my wife's pass before the increase. :)

The concerns, confusion and opposition to increasing ticket prices causes me to wonder where people are getting the ideas that:

1)a visit to Disney World that is affordable for every person is some sort of inalienable right enshrined in the US Constitution.

2)the Walt Disney Co. is some sort of benevolent charity and not a publicly traded corporation whose stockholders expect it to make a profit and pay a dividend.

And

3)The Walt Disney Co. is immune to the vagaries of the economy and feels no effect of increasing fuel prices on shipping and transportation costs. The idea seems to be that Disney would have foreseen increasing fuel costs and heavily invested in futures trading or amassed a huge strategic petroleum reserve to avoid such price fluctuations.

Well, I think a lot of people really don't care about #3. Disney's expenses aren't really a guest's concern. #1 and #2 are on-target though: Disney should price things based on how much we're willing to pay, not a penny less.

True enough -- but #3 is certainly going to affect the WDW bottom line and play some part in admission ticket pricing.

I'm not a Disney shareholder -- but I don't see a problem with Disney charging us what the market will bear. Nor do I have a problem with the MYW system that Disney set in place in January 2005. The "discounting" for extended stay and purchasing only what one needs in an admission ticket certainly works for us. By the time DD (who is turning 7 at WDW in January) turns 10 we plan on having a good handful of activated 10 day child MYW hopper tickets for her to enjoy through the early years of her "Adult" life.

so my own prudent, budget-minded self decided to wait it out, and bought our package with 7 day base tickets. We figured we'd wait, and IF we decided we wanted to hop, we would add the hoppers then (I'd hate to add the hopper option to 6 tickets, and then NOT need it!) Now, we need to decide TODAY if we want to add the hopping, and do so over the phone, or pay $5 more per ticket (taking our $240 addition to $270)??

:rotfl2: Got to admit this seems to be a very popular train of thought.

(Along with the thoughts that Uncle Walt didn't care about profit... HUH???)

Royal Canadian,
So you feel it's OK for a company to increase prices by well over 200% over a 9 year period do you? Don't forget, this is a company that is supposed to have "family values" at heart.

I already completely paid for my two packages (total of 15 nights) in August.

Package #1: I purchased 1 day base tickets and planned to upgrade them to 10 Day MYW Plus with Hopper.

Package #2 1 Day Base Ticket to be used for future trip.

I had planned to apply the 1 Day Base ticket to the 10 Day MYW ticket at the hotel.

Can I call today and apply the 1 Day ticket to a 10 day upgrade over the phone to avoid the price increase?

Thanks

We are going in March for 7-8 nights. I have not made reservations yet. Can I go online and order 8 day park hopper tickets without knowing the actual dates? There is a set price for tickets, right, so I don't have to book a hotel now? Where should I order the tickets from? Thanks!

Might I be so bold as to ask for a PM from one of my fellow Dis'ers with the Mousesavers newsletter from last month. I'm in need of the special discount info for purchasing tickets from "undercovertourist". I resubscribed last month because I wasn't getting the newsletter anymore, but I missed the July edition. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to buy my tickets tonight before the prices rise again. Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give me! :wave2:

Thank you to everyone for the information on the ticket increase. I was able to buy our tickets yesterday. (5 APs, 1 10day PH non-exp, 2 8 day PH) DH was so impressed and asked if I got that information from "the internet people". He is really beginning to accept, if not fully understand, my Dis obsession.

If the market will bear the price increase, then let Disney increase the prices. The 200% price increase doesn't seem to have had a negative effect on park attendance.

Disney's prime responsibility is not to the customers -- it is to their shareholders. So long as Disney is operately ethically (there is nothing inherently wrong with making a profit -- despite what some people might think), then it is the responsibility of the Walt Disney Co. to turn a profit and repay their investors with increased share prices and healthy dividends. They aren't doing anything illegal in increasing prices and more and more people seem rather willing to pay the price.
