Ticket Price Increase

Some have said that Disney will not do the exchange if the value of what you are exchanging is greater than what you are getting - even if you aren't asking for the difference back. :confused3

I don't believe that's actually the case, and I'm willing to take my chances. I'm planning on exchanging them in 3 weeks for new DVC AP *vouchers* and if they won't exchange for a child voucher, I'll exchange it for an adult voucher that he can use the next year. But my hunch is that I won't have any trouble doing the upgrade.

Let us know. There's a lot of us in this situation. I'm sitting on 2 adult and 1 child MYW pass valued more than the DVC AP that we plan to exchange in December while we're there.

I'm fine with losing the "overage" as long as I can "sidegrade" to the DVC AP.

Where have you read that? I suppose it technically makes sense, since it wouldn't be an upgrade if it's for a lower-value ticket.

I've read it on this board and on another board from different people.

Let's hope this isn't true or there's a lot of upset people stuck with tickets. We just bought the 6-day PH No Expiration, 2 adults and 1 child. Those new values before tax are:

Adult: $402 (verus new AP of $399)
Child: $379 (versus new AP of $362)

I sure hope I don't get stuck with those as non-transferrable. I guess we can upgrade to the PAP if that's the case, but we're not huge waterpark people.

Or, I guess we'll know the outcome by our trip in December and I can just exchange them prior to use foregoing any savings of the AP and have just "pre-paid" the cost of the AP. As people try to use these tickets valued higher than the AP I look forward to understanding what happens.

Here's the updgrade piece directly from the Disney Ticket FAQ:

It's a bit contradictory as it says "provided the new ticket is of equal or greater value than the old ticket" and goes on to say "no refunds will be issued if the new ticket is of lesser value."

So:
1) You can't upgrade to a lesser valued ticket
2) If you upgrade to a lesser valued ticket - no refund of difference

:confused3

I'd bet that depending on the CM that you get will vary on what the answer will be. Those statements are definitely contradictory and some probably go by #1 and other's by #2. :confused3 I don't understand why Disney wouldn't be willing to take something that is worth more but it's been reported as happening. Since you have up to 14 days from the first use to do the upgrade there's time to try a few CM's if the first follows #1 only!

I posted on the other thread that I had no problem exchanging more expensive tickets for AP's a few weeks ago. I even rec'd cash back, which was totally not expected. I plan to do a similar exchange next week.

Unless someone posts directly that they weren't allowed to exchange, I honestly have a hard time believing it. If by chance there were a problem (and possibly due to an uninformed CM; it happens at times) I'd just keep my ticket and go back to a different window and CM another day.

FWIW, the best GS people are at MK and DTD. I've had complicated transacations there over the years (including ticket exchanges) and they have always gone above and beyond to help. And like anywhere else in life, being polite certainly goes a long way. :)

Is it possible to buy a 7 day non-expiring ticket at AAA at the current lower prices then switch to a 10 day non-expiring when we get there in 10 days? Or do they just let you upgrade to APs?? I called my local AAA office and the prices are still lower than the prices on the previously posted link. I know most of the posters on this thread are getting APs but that won't work for us.

yes they let you upgrade days.

Where can I buy DVC AP's online today? We've bought after the price increase the last two times and I do NOT want to do that again.

I will be buying Disneyland Premium Annual Passes on 8/15 and called last week to find out where I can purchase these online using my DVC discount. The answer was: at Disneyland only. Since we only get $20 off, and the PAP went up $20 - it was a "wash". I will be royally ticked off if you could purchase these on-line!

I hold a voucher for the Give a Day -Get a Day Promotion.

DVC Member services told me I can apply the value of the (Voucher) for the 1 day Park ticket to the renewal cost of my Annual Florida Resident Weekday Select Pass that will be expiring on Nov. 17, 2010.

I will be visiting DisneyWorld staying at Vacation
Club BoardWalk Villas from Nov. 7 thru Nov. 13, 2010 - At that time I would like to RENEW my Annual Florida Resident Weekday Select Pass.

Will my Give-A-Day-Get- A -Day Voucher be able to be applied to the cost of renewal of my Annual Pass.??

Would that be worth $87.31 credit towards the AP??

Has anyone done this yet??

A great Perk if it will be honored!!!

Are the Ticket prices going up? OH OH! I have an annual pass, so that means those are going up too. :scared1:

yes they let you upgrade days.

Just so I'm understanding....I would trade in our 7 day non-expiring passes for the 10 days non-exp. and would pay the difference in price between the the days and the difference in price between the non-expiring feature, right?

I also have the GAD vouchers....the way I understand it, I could then put the value of those toward the total $$ difference I owe on the upgrade?

I was in the same boat...we are going in Nov. I was on the phone with ticketing for an hour....wanted to get in on the old AP price AND get the DVC discount. Ticketing supervisor told me to buy the regular non-DVC discounted AP and once on site go to the ticketing booth and have them give me a credit for the DVC discount. Not sure if it will all work out but it saved me $90 by buying the passes the other day.

When you use your GAD voucher to upgrade do they give you the $82.00 credit toward the higher ticket option that you're buying?

That's my understanding. That's what they did(I'm not sure of the amount that the GAD voucher was worth in July) for the family members who wanted to buy the 10 day hopper/no expiration in July when we went.

Perhaps someone could verify-- can the tickets used (for one day for example) also be upgraded toward the cost of the DVC Renewal AP.

I know you can use them to upgrade to the DVC AP. But let's say that you have a DVC AP and it has just expired within a couple of weeks. For example, could you use the first day on a 5-day PH ticket and then have it upgraded (for its current gate value) toward the cost of your DVC AP renewal?-- since you are still within the 30-day renewal period. I know the effective date would be retroactive to your AP anniversary date...

You CANNOT combine the GAD vouchers and a previously purchased ticket to get an upgraded ticket. The ONLY way you can get the value of the GAD voucher toward another ticket is to use the GAD voucher to get a one-day ticket, and then upgrade that ticket. So DO NOT buy tickets in advance -- you won't be able to use them! Check out Cheshire Figment's thread on the GAD program -- he's the absolute authority on this.

Thanks for clarifying this....luckily I haven't gone to AAA to pick up the tickets yet! I'll look for the thread you mentioned tomorrow.

For those interested in what happens if the ticket you want to upgrade exceeds the value of the ticket to which you are upgrading...

Once all arrived, I went on a journey to Epcot guest relations to upgrade 10-day park hoppers given as a gift into DVC discounted annual passes. The hoppers were more expensive than APs. Sweet!! Even have a balance in a Disney gift card.

From this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2527277

Obviously one anecdote doesn't mean it will always happen, but I thought it was interesting!

AAA website says prices are going up on 8/13? Going today to buy a 10 day park hopper no expiration, that usually last me 3-4 trips!!!

If you buy the 10 day ticket, does it have a no expiration date even if you do not purchase that option? Someone told me it did. Thanks.
