And yet I'm paying for it just like they would.

I booked it 200+ days in advance. They could have too.

No different than being unable to get your preferred choice of room because they are all booked.

:thumbsup2 our four MBs from our *won't be stepped on yet paid for* camp site arrived a couple days ago! Our MBs for our AOA LM room haven't arrived yet, we have that booked for nine nights, we'll spend quite a bit of time there, mostly sleeping.
I've already completed the online check in for both reservations.
For kicks I'm gonna see if I can book another one night at a camp site for the night I paid for months ago. I'll report back.

Coming soon - "Bed checks" at Disneyworld! :lmao:

Too funny.

The loophole is easy to fix. Require multiple night stays OR not allow any advantages beyond the # of nights you have accomodations booked.

No need to go around with a flashlight inspecting campsites for tents, or knocking on hotel room doors like a highschool trip chaperon.

No need. They'll just install RFID readers in each room and at each campsite to make sure your magic band is close by. :wizard:

I'm not making this up. Disney has ended the reservations of people whose rooms were obviously left empty after a few days. It's a regular practice. As for the campsites, they make the rounds through the loops at least twice a day. Unlike a room where you have to open the door to get in, it's pretty darned clear that an empty campsite is not being used at all.

Can someone back me up on the issue of Disney locking people out of rooms and ending the reservations of rooms that weren't being used?

Curious - what is the purpose of the campsite reservation? Just to get an extra set of magic bands? Or is your overall party larger than the # booked into your AOA room? :confused3

And I think this was something going back to KTTW cards and the benefits that came with those. Or something like that. DISers who have been around longer than I have would know what I am thinking of. It may have had something to do with having overlapping reservations.

I'm not saying you are wrong for doing it. I'm just saying I wouldn't risk it myself. I would just rather pay to stay onsite to get onsite priveledges. I'd rather not cheap out and have the loophole close on me.

Yes, I'm curious, too. And I'm starting to recall that the policy of closing out a reservation I think stemmed from people having two separate reservations at the same time. Would that be a risk for you?

I've never heard of this happening for anyone who booked a throwaway room/campsite. Disney is entitled to do what they want but they had better write a policy about it because as I see it- I book a room AND receive the things like Magic Bands EMH etc. I paid for it ALL and it's up to me what we use and do not use. Some people might even use their throwaway room for napping in the afternoons.

Can someone point to the room reservation contract where it says I must SLEEP at NIGHT in the room to be guaranteed all of the other inclusions? If not, then disney would need to change it.

I know it has not happened for throwaway campsites yet, but it has happened for what they consider abandoned rooms. People use to do it to get onsite privileges (KTTW cards, Magical Express to save on taxi, etc.) and to fit more people into a room than allowed while still getting that person a dining plan, etc. So they'd book a value in addition to their deluxe and then do free dining for the one extra person and get their KTTW card, etc. I've been on the DIS for 10 years (different avatar, changed because I gave away too much private info) and I definitely recall this being a thing. As for the room contract, I'm pretty sure Disney reserves the right to boot you at any time. If they feel their resort privileges are being abused, they'd probably have a leg to stand on.

If I get a minute later, I will try to find some old threads where this was discussed.

OR, I have COMPLETELY lost my mind, which is a total possibility! :)

SDFP *same day fast pass* friends, check out the Maximizing your something, started by ScrapYap, smart lady.
This visit is just my DD, and I, we're good to go in our LM room, we'll each get an additional six FPs each day, could've gotten more MBs/more SDFP, camp sites hold up to 9, that seemed a bit much.

Are these all on the same ticket though? Aren't FP also attached to tickets and not just room reservation?

(Not questioning whether or not you should do this. Just curious as to how this works.)

I used a different MDE, paid for the camp site with a Disney GC, I'm not worried one bit. I abide by J C's wise words "Let your conscience be your guide."
Happy travels. You seem to be digging for "I recall" and "I know this is happening" moments.

Go read the thread. Right now they don't have to have tickets associated with them, just connected to another MDE account.

No, I'm just explaining why I probably wouldn't do it. I also am confused as to how it works to have extra FP+ on the same park ticket. If people have done it, then obviously it works. Just now sure how it works.

And I'm not questioning the practice of throwaway rooms. I'm bummed about it, because we would really love one last December camping trip (last year was in a deluxe villa at Wilderness Lodge, so camping is a sentimental thing) but I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing (throwaway) if I could be absolutely certain they wouldn't close the loophole. I'm not questioning the ethics of it one way or another. I understand how a throwaway room works to get to book FP+ at 60 days, but I don't understand how it works to get extra FP+. Are you just using a different park ticket for those? If not, does that mean that one park ticket can get two different magic bands/MDE accounts?

Thanks

Here's what I posted a while ago about why our family did it. We stayed offsite for a week, but booked 1 night at a campsite for our first day in the parks.

For the purchase of the campsite (about $60) we received:

-2 days of free parking for check-in and check-out day ($34 value)
-5 magic bands for our family ($64.75 plus tax)
-60 day FP+ booking window for the full length of our trip, not just the campsite days
-option to purchase a BOG FP+ lunch
-option to use EMH (we followed easyWDW touring plans, so we actively avoided EMH, but to each his own)

We kept the camping reservation and did NOT cancel it at the last minute. People have mixed feelings about this (and very strong feelings too). But as far as I'm concerned, I received the full benefits of a campsite that I purchased with real money. This isn't cheating, it's not "sneaky", and it isn't a "loophole".

I totally agree. However, I think Disney would see it as a loophole to making more money, and will eventually close it somehow. I don't know how, but I cannot imagine they'll turn a blind eye to a practice that loses them money.

And I'm not arguing against the practice. Just saying I wouldn't risk it. (I'd just stay onsite.)

VP

I guess the point I was trying to make earlier about why I wouldn't risk it is that if a loophole costs Disney money, you'd better believe they will eventually close it.

VP

I'm not sure Disney is losing money from this practice. I don't think there are a lot of people that decide to go to Disney and don't find an empty campsite on the exact date they are looking so they decide to just forget the whole trip. I think they look at different dates or different places to stay.
