Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

What happens if they were to schedule the rooms only, get the magic bands in the mail and then cancel the reservation and get the money back? You still have the MB at that point and I would guess the bands would work the same way?

Why not just do this instead?

Not sure if the MBs will still work, but from my understanding, the FP+s will disappear when you cancel the room. I think those that are thinking about getting a throwaway reservation are more concerned with pre-booking their FP+s than they are with getting MBs.

Simple question followed by a simple answer. Who's vacation is this? It's your vacation. If they allow the throwaway room, then use it. I say book it. Now, I think it's worth noting that Magic Bands are really ideal for on site guests, and significantly less so for off site. I wouldn't focus so much on the bands as I would the pre-booking FP+.

This, exactly.

If you can make it work for a group of 12, which is slightly more complicated when it comes to throwaway rooms, go for it. You're paying for it and Disney allows it.

When people shake their heads at this topic, I just hope they remember Disney has created this situation by alienating offsite guests for most of this "test" so far. Even though many of speculate it won't be the case in the future, that doesn't really help offsite guests who have to deal with the FP+ situation now.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all the positive thoughts... I love this place!:goodvibes When I talked with my sister yesterday she was actually excited about going back to the campground we stayed in when we were kids in the 70's... lots of memories. I actually have more memories of the campgrounds from that vacation than MK! Anyway, we booked two sites, and I think we will actually use them to let the kids run around and get a taste of Disney on arrival day, as we are not planning on going to parks that day. Maybe get some pizzas and use the picnic tables and such. No tent camping though.

So... verdict... yes I was able to book all 5 days of my MYW hopper tickets on FP+ for all 12 of us. So for now, it works. I spent about 30 mins on the phone with technical support as she switched the tickets around so that each families account was set up correctly, and the tickets were tied correctly etc., before I booked the reservations. Could that of made the difference? don't know.

It is OUR vacation... and it could be the only vacation for all the grandkids with grandma and us three siblings together. We are 42 days out... getting less worried and more excited!!:cool1:

Glad it worked out for you! Doing it the way you did you will only get 1 day of free parking but I still think it is worth it not to have to deal with the kiosks.

Happy to hear it worked for you and thanks much for reporting back. May the next 42 days go quickly by for you. I am sure great memories will be made!

After reading some of this thread I've decided to add a day at a value resort for 1 night. Since were driving we will just go a day earlier. Not going until mid May but wanted to keep up with how this is working out.

So just to check back in- my throwaway room (which we might actually stay in- who knows!) is booked for April 29. On the 28th (60 days from my res) I was able to book FP+ for the 29th and 30th (the days of my "stay"). Today, May 1 was able to be booked too, so if the pattern continues I'll be able to book each day at the 60 day point.

Hoping someone can answer this. I booked tickets thru ebates/ orbitz. Were staying at ASMu 1st night then moving Sheraton Visitana. I'm planning to link the tickets ( waiting on magic code) to MDE will the magic bands still work to get us in the parks after our check out or will I need to pick up the tickets at the gate ?

Your magicbands will continue to work at the parks for the ticket already attached.

Checking back in, I too am now able to book more FP+ days up to 5/1. Our last day is 5/2 so hopefully that opens tomorrow. Now for POTC to finish refurb early so we don't miss it (DS chickened out last trip and has been kicking himself ever since) and we are good to go!

I don't suppose 7 dwarfs mine is listed as an option yet?

Nope and while I was able to book the princess M&Gs when my days opened, I'm now hearing they are not showing as available (along with a few other Fantasyland options) - I'm wondering if they've limited the number because of the media openings for the Mine Train during my visit?

I'm at the airport on the way home. Figured I'd give you an update.

To recap: we had a campsite booked for 1 night. We are a family of 5 so we could not book a room at one of the less expensive resorts since they don't fit 5 so a campsite was our best option. We had 5 day park hoppers attached to our reservation. I had the magic bands shipped to a friend in the US since I am in Canada and they don't ship them here. I did not want to have to pick them up at the resort.

At 60 days out, I was able to book FP+ for my check in and check out day only. Every day after that, a new day opened up and I could make my selections. So Dec 27th (or something like that) I was able to make my FP+ selections for Feb 27/28, then Dec 30th I could make them for March 1st, Dec 31st for March 2nd.

I checked in online then on our first day at the parks, we physically checked in at the resort. I don't know if you need to do this but I wanted the parking pass. We checked in at 10am then went straight to the parks, never having set foot into the resort.

Our FP+ selections worked perfectly all week. I even changed a day around at the end of our week (days after we had checked out) and and no problems booking them. We went on Friday instead of Saturday so I canceled Saturdays and booked for Friday with no issues.

For those who ask "why would you waste money on a throwaway room?" here is my answer: the 1 night room/campsite cost 90$. We got to park for 2 days (check in and check out) which normally would cost 30$ for both days so we really only spent 60$. We are a family of 5 with 5 day tickets and booked 5 days worth of FP+. That comes to 2.40 cents per day per person to save ourselves a lot of waiting time.

We did not *have* to do rope drop to guarantee ourselves short waits or deal with whatever times came out of the kiosks (who knows if those times were convenient to our plans). On the days that we did do rope drop, we had short morning waits, then took a break and park hopped - we used our FP+ for our evening park and had more short waits.

We also saw the lineups for the FP+ kiosks - OMG !! You need a FP for the FP kiosk ! if you wanted to change anything, you needed to go to a kiosk again rather than using MDE from the rental house or our smartphone. To us, it was well worth the 12$/day. To others, it might not be.

So, as of today, it does not appear that Disney is in any rush to "close the loophole". They got our money for the campsite which was pure profit. We used none of the services at the campground and no one had to clean up after us. (cause we were not really there). We used the perks that came with the room but not the actual room. Win-win !!

So, until Disney changes the current plan and let's offsite guests book FP+ in advance, I highly recommend the throwaway room !

But you did take away a site from someone like me who stays at the campground.

I've read about people booking campgrounds for the parking and frankly, I'm disappointed that you're bragging about abusing the system.

1) It has been going on for years, for EMH and parking, and Disney doesn't do anything about it. It actually saves Disney money - they still get paid, and they don't need to clean.

2) It only takes away a campground/room from someone who would use it if the resort was at 100% occupancy.

3) The reason this time wasn't necessarily for the parking, which isn't even cost effective in itself ($90 to save $15/$30?), but for Fastpass+, and that "loophole" is expected to close soon as they start allowing advance FP+ to non-resort guests.

Like PP said, unless the campsite was 100 percent filled to capacity, this guest took nothing away from anyone.

And last I checked, all Disney resort reservations are first-come, first served.

Someone like you had the same opportunity to book a campsite. You snooze, you lose. They are paying the same amount you are for it, they do not need to use it to your liking. It's like if someone wants to pay to go to Chef Mickey's to see the characters but not eat the food. They're taking up the spot of someone who wanted to do both, but so what? The person who wanted to do both had the same opportunity to book and is paying the same price for the services.

I'm most disappointed that Disney created a situation where offsite guests felt like they had to book a throwaway room, especially because it's very clear that offsite guests will eventually all have prebooking ability. Point the finger where it should be, I don't blame people for wanting to get the most out of their vacation.

Hmm, so it must be okay then. (Sarcasm)

I tried booking a campsite last Christmas and couldn't because the resort WAS at 100% occupancy. Makes me wonder how many people were doing this and could've been the reason I couldn't stay.

I think it is a bit different here because this is discussing paying for one night to get benefits for length of stay whereas someone genuinely wanting to stay there is going to pay length of stay prices.
