Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Sunday Everyone!
Beautiful morning here in NW Indiana ☀️

I have been to Colorado - it’s a beautiful state. I’m going with gooey things though…..

#1 - FRIED PB&J - I did a poll on this recently. I’m grateful I tried it, because it was sooooo….. good and I’ll definitely make it again.

#2 - STUFFED OR DEEP DISH PIZZA - Being from the Chicago area, stuffed or deep dish pizza is readily available and you can’t get a more gooey pizza than those. They are amazing!

#3 - FRIED MOZZARELLA STICKS - I love them! I’m looking forward to getting the footlong one at The Boardwalk in a month. It sounds like a big stomachache, but I don’t care, I’m getting it!

While I don’t live there, I love Colorado. We go at least once a year and I really would love to retire in colorful Colorado.

Rocky Mountain National Park- I usually classify it as my second overall favorite but there are sub categories where it’s solidly #1. It’s one of the few places where I truly feel at peace.

Denver- Yes, it’s a city but it’s got a certain vibe that makes me immediately feel welcome. This past summer, we stayed just to the edge of LODO. I easily walked from our hotel into some of the more fun and vibrant places. We’ve also stayed in a couple of parts of downtown before and had that similar sort of Immersion experience.

The front range- while I also love waking up in the middle of the mountains to be surrounded by peaks, we often stay on the eastern side of the front range. It’s got so much visual appeal but it also aids as a directional marker.

Honorable mentions to the other national parks (especially Black Canyon of the Gunnison), whitewater rafting, Estes Park, the Rocky Mountain National Wildlife Arsenal, the drive in from the southern border through Trinidad, and all of the fun and scenic towns/cities. …Even going west, where the landscape changes more to what you’d expect in Utah and Arizona.

@TiggerTrigger DH went to undergrad in Gunnison... VERY familiar with the Black Canyon! Also, I don't know what kind of hosta I have as they were a "mixed grab bag" from Spring Hill Nursery, but they grow like crazy. I HAVE found that they are very light-intolerant; the ones in the backyard along the fence, somewhat shaded by trees, didn't do well at all last summer. Maybe your climate is too sunny/hot for hosta to do well?

So many categories that I've fallen behind on!! Here are a couple of answers:
Songs- Two Worlds by Phil Collins, from Tarzan. Back it days gone by, Disney did a live show, "Tarzan Rocks!" at Animal Kingdom. This was one of my very favorite Disney shows, and I haven't quite forgiven them for cancelling it! ANYHOW... we used to go to Disney with my sister and niece; first trip niece was 1 and DD was 4. We'd sing "Two Worlds" as "Two girls, one family!" every time we went (which was far too often). THEN my sister adopted my other niece from China, and we really can sing "Two worlds, one family!" Damn, I get all teary-eyed just thinking about it...

Colorado- DH went to undergrad in Gunnison, and his father worked there for about 15 years, so we've been to Colorado quite a bit. I love the mountains, the history (ghost towns, old west settlements, etc), and just how different it is from New England. (Also I finally got to Estes Park, where we might have spread some of a friend's ashes...)

Gooey Things- anything with cheese. Can't have too much melted cheese for me!!

Only Child: DD is an only. I was 37 when she was born and it was a difficult delivery (separated my pelvis, got an infection that had me on IV antibiotics for 6 days, etc), so it was a one-and-done for us. Actually, one is a very good number for us. I am grateful that we had the time to spend with DD and with only one kid we had the finances to invest in her dance education, help with college, etc., and that I had the gift of TIME to spend with just her. I know if we'd had more kids, it would have been different: Equally wonderful, but very different.

Scrabble... gotta work on this one!

We had spent a night in Cortez to see Mesa Verde and also popped in for a small visit to Canyon of the Ancients. Originally, we’d planned to drive straight to Alamosa for Great Sand Dunes but decided to go out of our way to add Gunnison to the trip. I was so happy we did. It was one of those surprises where it’s a park that doesn’t get a ton of hype but is absolutely breathtaking. This still remains one of my favorite national park pics. Somewhere, I also have video showcasing the incredible wind.

For the hostas, the ones at our old house were in full shade. They always seemed to do well and flowered each year but were well behaved in terms of spread. Also a different variety. These new ones are listed as shade tolerant, also preferring partial shade. They seem to be doing well but surviving the summer heat will be the true test.

Funny how that happens sometimes!
