Three Things...Gratitude Thread

March
I’ll be honest it’s the most dreaded month of the year for me some of the most tragic things in my life have happened in the month of March
This month causes me huge anxiety depression and massive amount of sadness
It is a month that I tell myself over and over again we gotta get through this and I am counting the days to get through this month praying that something tragic that’s not happen because this month is historically bad for tragic things to happen to me
What am I grateful for I’m grateful for this month to be over I have nothing nice to say about the month of March I won’t even get into it but I will tell you anything tragic that’s ever happened to me happened in a month of March and I have multiple examples of it I hate the month of March and I just gotta get through it I do a lot of praying in March a whole lot

Evening all,

1. Spring - another vote for this, as I hate winter so I'm always grateful when we're into spring.

2. More daylight - another vote for this as i hate the darkness the winter months bring and i love being able to see more daylight.

3. Meals out - this March, I seem to have a lot of meals out booked in with friends and family, which I'm always happy about as I love food and eating new things. Highlight is hopefully going to be Gordon Ramsay's Lucky Cat restaurant 😋

I have been to Minnesota. Had a nice mini visit to a national monument that was along the way but it was so quick that I’ll focus on March.

1. This March brings us a total lunar eclipse. I love stuff like this! Unfortunately, we’re predicted to have fully overcast skies but I should be out there walking during totality. So maybe I’ll get a little glimpse.

2. This March, I have three races. I’m so grateful to be back to a state of health and fitness where this is possible. I’m grateful for the fun themes and clothes I bought to have fun with it. I’m grateful to be doing much of this with DD17. I’m also grateful that I should get some time with one of my favorite softball moms at one next weekend.

3. Spring Break for DD17s school district overlaps with DD19s at OU. I will have both of my kids home, at least for some of it as well as some of DD19s friends. DD17s softball bestie also has off and will be spending at least a night with us. So, about 2 weeks from now, the house will be beautiful chaos.

My Aunt taking my sister & me to the library and then to the mobile library what great fun that was when we were little kids - our first time ever going to a library- so much fun being able to get books and going back to her house and having cocoa and reading books 📕

Coming from a family where everyone read books - common practice in my house and actually in several friends houses too / we all read books and swamped them around constantly

Used book store right by my house - so much fun - you could sell them your books for store credit to buy books and repeat the process - we ( friends and me) would walk there once a month and trade in our books for new ones and then swap the books amongst us and rinse and repeat the process so much fun !!!

I’m very grateful for books 📕 every kind of book self-help books teach you how to do something books historical books biographies nature and especially Mr. Stephen King I love his books I also enjoy reading about history forever amazed at the Harry Potter books she did a fabulous job not only writing those books but engaging young people to read again

Good Monday Morning!

#1 - MEMORIES OF WALKING TO THE TOWN LIBRARY AFTER SCHOOL TO WORK ON SCHOOL REPORTS - We’d go there to look at encyclopedias and copy the pages out of them to take home. My dad would then pick us up after work to bring us home. We were 6th-8th grade when we did this. I can’t imagine allowing kids to do this today. We had to cross a very busy 4 lane street and had a decent walk to the library. We’d go regardless what the weather was. Kids today don’t know how good they have it with having information at their fingertips.

#2 - OUR COUNTY LIBRARY - This library is not the same as the above one. This library is very large with multiple floors. I studied at this library throughout college because my house was never quiet during the day. I’d go up on the top floor to a table in the corner - it was great!

#3 - MY RECIPE BOOK - This is a book that I have written recipes on the pages. It also has pockets that I have put recipes in that I’ve printed out from online or tore out of magazines in the past. This book is used a lot and it’s sadly starting to fall apart.

Afternoon all,

1. Libraries - I'm just grateful for libraries in general. I've spent a lot of time in them borrowing countless books over the years, and while I don't borrow quite as many physical books nowadays as my library offers an eBook service, I still use them all the time.

2. Secondhand books - I'm a huge advocate for buying secondhand books and spend a lot of time browsing in secondhand book stores or charity shops. I hate it when I have to buy brand new.

3. Kindle - while there's nothing better than reading a real physical book, I have come to be incredibly grateful for my Kindle and the sheer number of books it can hold. Especially when going on holiday as it saves so much space!

Admittedly, I rarely get to read these days. I haven't had much in the way of time and of late and I feel like I currently have the attention span of a gnat. Still, books and libraries have played a significant role in my life over the years.

Second hand book resources - From being able to buy used books for the girls' school assignments to college textbook buybacks where we can get some money back for those pricey books we had to buy. Also a shout out to the teachers who keep the same reading assignments over the years. I recently got to dig out one of those used books I bought for DD19 because it was one of DD17s current assignments.

Walking to the public library - When I was in elementary school, we'd walk to our public library several times per week. It was a great way to get "new" books to hit our summer reading goals AND they had air conditioning.

Charlotte's Web - I can't remember when I first read it...maybe 3rd grade? It was the first time I remember a book moving me to tears and teaching me the power of the written word.
