Three Things...Gratitude Thread

1. Animal Shelter- I spent nearly 3 years volunteering at the Houston SPCA. I started out in large dog adoptions, added in dog walking and grooming, telethon, special event adoptions, adoptable animal segments on the local news, trainer, and eventually working with the vets in admitting. I’ve done a few one off volunteer stints there with work in more recent years and also volunteered at the Houston Humane Society with DD19 for several months while she was earning NHS points.

2. The Brazarre- I previously shared how a friend used to do an annual art fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. I shared the cake and gumpaste bra I made but I participated additional years. One year, I made “LibBRArace CandelaBRA.” I created a candelabra with two wine bottles I painted gold, I added cork based scrolled candle holders in each bottle top, adorned it with all kinds of dangling crystals and jewels, and bound them together with a bra I painted gold and hand jeweled with literally thousands of individually glued rhinestones in various shades of purple and iridescent clears and pearlized stones. I think it raised a little over $200.

3. Sorority philanthropy- Literacy was our big one but I always liked when we turned out mansion into a haunted house/safe trick or treating place for underprivileged kids in the area. Most of us just gave out candy but some rooms had fun gross tricks for the kids… like dark rooms where they put their hands in grapes and jello (bowl of eyeballs), rice (maggots), and pasta/spaghetti (guts). It was so much fun and the kids loved it.

...so if all your friends are irritating you right now, shout out some pasta you're grateful for.

My friend who helped teach me how to drive and offered their car so I could take the drivers test forever grateful - the same person when it was fine reasons to get me out of my house it was not a nice place to be when I was a kid so they would always find reasons so that I could be at their house so I would not have to be at home I needless to say this friend was an older adult she was a great mentor to me

After having gone through a very difficult time in my life I find out who my real friends were and I’m very grateful to know this

SLO - I don’t remember how we met I’m just very grateful that we did and consider her a very dear friend and I’m very thankful for

I have two very close friends here in town most of my other friends out of town but I have two and I am very grateful for both of them because one of them I can call anytime and I know that she’ll be there for me no matter what

And I’m the friend that when you call me you need to tell me when you hear me on speaker if you have somebody in the car or in the house because I’m the friend that you don’t put on speaker 🤣🤣🤣 because you never know what I’m gonna say🤣🤣🤣🤣 but your problems become my problems and I help you solve your problems

Happy Friday Friends

#1 - MY BOSS - Not only is he my boss, but he’s also a very special and dear friend. We’ve been working together since 2012 and we’ll be together until he decides to retire. Since it’s just the two of us, we share a lot throughout the day and we have some of the best laughs.

#2 - MY NEIGHBORS (TWO HOUSES) - We’ve been neighbors since 2004 and even though we don’t see each other much now that our kids are older, we know we can count n each other for anything. When we do see each other, we pick up where we left off.

#3 - SOFTBALL FRIENDS - These friends I mostly see on Facebook now, but at one time, they were like my extended family. I have some of the best memories with these people and I’m very grateful that we have Facebook to keep in touch.

My friend A~~~, who pulls me out of my comfort zone, for when I feel like stretching.

And my friend S~~~, who has the same affinity for routine that I do, for when I don't!

And of course my DIS friends! - You are a wonderful source of conversation, laughs, information, ideas, comfort... just all around great people to talk to. :goodvibes

My friend Diane. Her daughter and mine danced together thru middle school and high school, but went separate ways for college. Diane and I have stayed close over the 15 years since then, which surprises me. We message almost daily and try to get together about once a month.

My friend Angela. I 'met' Angela here on the DISboards back in 2003? 2004? She was renting spaces in the boat for the Epcot Fireworks Cruise. I signed up for 2 spaces, and the rest is history! We have very similar backgrounds (grew up within 10 miles of each other), professional interests, and we just kinda stayed friends. We message daily, and even though she lives 600 miles away, we've managed to get together probably a half-dozen times a year. She truly is my "sister from another mister," as they say.

My daughter Sarah. She is definitely my best friend and I am hers- she'll agree to this! Friends don't have to be from the same generation, of the same age group, or unrelated. She is my heart and soul, and also my best travel buddy and partner in crime. I'd be lost without her!

My friend from childhood, C. We grew up playing together on the beaches of Cape Cod every summer. We don't live near each other but have had multiple reunion trips at our beach. We text often and remain supportive with each other.

My work daughter, M. I started out as her mentor, grew into her work mom and biggest cheerleader. She became an unexpected support system and person who I could trust and tell anything. She has a great head on her shoulders and is an outstanding human. Being included in all of her wedding festivities from the shower, rehearsal dinner, and wedding brunch meant a lot to me. Now that she teaches in a different district, we still text often and get together for lunch whenever we can.

My friend Y. She started out as my assistant. We became friendly, and now that she works down the hallway, we are best friends. I love her like a sister. We have each other’s backs.

I truly cherish these friendships because they are REAL. I have been burned too many times by people I thought I could trust. I have many acquaintances, but I am very careful who I let into my inner circle.

Afternoon all,

I'm doing a mix of friends and pasta, as sadly I'm that person whose friends are a little irritating right now!

1. Work friends - I've come to realise recently that I'm actually closer to my work colleagues than my friends that I've known for decades. While that makes me a little sad, I'm super grateful to have these somewhat unexpected work friends in my life. So much so that my next WDW trip in May is with them, which I never would have seen coming!

2. Pasta in general - pasta is one of my favourite foods, and I'm really just appreciative of it in general as I use it for everything from quick lunches at home to pasta salads to full on main meals. I don't think I could get through a week without pasta.

3. Spaghetti Carbonara - my all time favourites pasta dish and super easy to make at home.

Softball friends- our high school is in a big state tournament this weekend. It’s the beginning of the season each year and is structured more like travel ball. It’s fun because we get to see all of our school ball friends, as well as a good 20+ families we’ve befriended over the years.

Work friends- I’ve been with the same company for 28.5 years. I have so many friends from this long span of time.

Old friends- It’s fun to reminisce about the past. Yes, those friendships have faded but through social media, we get to connect on some level with many of those old friends.
