Three Things...Gratitude Thread

It's National Iowa Day, so if that's your state, please tell us what you're grateful for about it!

Otherwise, in honor of the 🏈 game, today's topic (Sun, 2/8) - 3 sports-related things you're grateful for

I've never been to Iowa, so sports-related it is:

1) Playing intramural basketball in college. - Great exercise and a fun way to get to know more people in my dorm.

2) Working the score board for my brother's little league team (back when you hung wooden numbers on a big sign behind the outfield fence) because it was fun and probably made me feel important.

3) football party food

Good Sunday Morning Everyone

#1 - BEING A SOFTBALL COACH - I’m very blessed to have been one of my DD’s softball coachs from 8yrs old - 18yrs old. As much as I loved it, it was nice during high school season, and when she played in college, so I could just sit and watch.

#2 - INDY 500 - My DH is an auto racing super fan and goes to the Indy 500 every year. I went to some races before my girls were born and it’s an incredible experience. One day, when DD22 is done with school, and set up in her career, her and I will go with my DH. I’d like to see it again, but I have no desire to go every year.

#3 - CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS GAMES - My DD22 has been a mega fan since she was about 10yrs old and her love for this team is contagious, which makes us all love them. At one time, my DH used a vendor that had a sky box, so we went to a lot of games and we had a blast. Such great memories! My DH will buy game tickets now, about once a year, so they can have a daddy daughter night.

I have never been to Iowa and I don’t play sports and neither did my kids which is probably a good thing since I’m not very sports person you wouldn’t want me on your team let’s just put it that way
But I do enjoy watching some sports

Tour de France I enjoy watching this every year people say it’s just a bunch of guys riding bikes through France / no it’s not there’s a whole lot more to it than that they’re strategy there’s teamwork it’s a lot harder than it looks granted the scenery is amazing but watching those guys do that is absolutely amazing to watch their techniques and what they do working together to try to get their teammate to the top to win this being out there every day in that weather climbing those mountains on those bikes it’s absolutely amazing

Horse racing 🏇 I’m in a huge horse racing fan I think horses are just beautiful animals they’re smart they’re gorgeous and they’re very fragile I absolutely love horse racing I’ve been watching it since I was a little kid I love watching a horse and watching him race for a few years and then watching him go into breeding and then watching his offspring race and just watching that just keep continuing so that when a horse pops up they’ll show you who his parents are and then you got some kind of idea how this horse might run in the race based on who his parents are and I love every year rooting for hoping to get a triple crown winner and I absolutely am over the moon but I didn’t think we would ever get another one and we got two it was something I didn’t think I would ever see in my lifetime was another triple crown winner and we got two ❤️❤️❤️

A few other sports that I do enjoy would be baseball & NHRA I don’t follow them as closely but I do enjoy them

But the one sport that I will stay up all night and watch that I will never miss that I will watch it nonstop then I will cheer and root on miss sleep miss my favorite shows just so I can watch it is the Olympics and I will watch just about everything I can possibly watch in the Olympics to cheer on the USA athletes !! I love the stories they tell even of other athletes and their trials and tribulations to get to the Olympics

Afternoon all,

I'm that annoying person that isn't really in to sports overall, but can come up with a few answers at least!

1. Ice hockey - one of the only sports that I actually like to watch. I'm fortunate enough that I do have an ice hockey team vaguely local to me although UK ice hockey isn't as nearly as fun an experience as the NHL. I much prefer to try and see an NHL game whenever I'm in the States.

2. Watching sports with others - I find it a lot easier to get into sports when watching with others. I very rarely watch any sort of sports games on tv at home on my own but have always enjoyed doing so with others.

3. NHL Merch - I love a bit of merch and will always pick up something NHL related when I'm on holiday in the States. My Anaheim Ducks merch is among my prized possessions! Recently a store here in the UK (Primark, which I believe there may be a few in the US?), which to me while cheap and sometimes questionable, has brilliant themed merch. A large amount of my Disney stuff comes from here at a fraction of the cost. Well recently they've started selling a few NHL themed items, not much but had some Ducks stuff which of course I snapped up!1000026328.jpg

Well, I have been to Iowa, so I am going to come up with three for the Hawkeye State.

1. We were road tripping and deviated a bit from our route because for whatever reason, Perkins was my craving. Our server was the sweetest! She bent over backwards so that DD19 could have a safe dessert. At the end of the meal, we mentioned we were road tripping all over the country and she was so pleasantly shocked to meet tourists that were so friendly. She assumed we were locals.

2. Council Bluffs made for an unexpectedly pretty part of the drive. It’s just the other stood Omaha, NE along the Missouri River.

3. University of Iowa was one of the schools DD19 applied to and was awarded a very generous academic scholarship. In the end, it wasn’t a top choice for her but grateful for the opportunity.

On a combined note, if you ever get a chance to watch (even on tv) a home football game for Iowa, you will witness one of the most heartwarming traditions in NCAA football. It makes me tear up whenever I see it…

*I just copied this from the internet…

Iowa Hawkeye fans wave at families at UI Children's Hospital
The "Hawkeye Wave" is a heartwarming Iowa football tradition, established in 2017, where 70,000+ fans at Kinnick Stadium turn to wave to children and families watching from the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital at the end of every first quarter. This 1-minute gesture connects the stadium to patients in the adjacent hospital.

1960s walked up the Joshua Tree Hill after church to join our father watching NFL games... always wanted to be in the NFL...2015 finally found myself in the NFL

That sports can be used by God to bring people together in a positive way.
Holy Spirit inspired the above

Been trying to figure out to share this day
Liquor .... movies... clothing... golfing... gambling.. everyone has a spin on the sinful nature
I gamble...7 cents to 10 cents...clears my mind and their money...as a veteran I get $20.00 free play a week... most of it is returned to help build their medical and senior facilities

They had a NFL promotion on Monday night to win prizes and free play...I am that old man that likes to talk...so I engaged folks in the tiny TV room...one couple was friendly and eventually joined their table..then he had a heart attack and surgery and rehab... I prayed with her when she came to gather her ticket and hand it over to me for the 4 $50.00 drawing of free play..and then she would leave...last drawing of the night.... I didn't win but her ticket did and I registered it my name and handed her$70.00 the next Monday... they also entered another NFL promotion by wagers on the games and those tickets went into a season ending drawing...he won a tailgate package of BBQ equipment and 4 VIP party tickets...but they had no way to take it home....so I offered my time and vehicle...to carry it to their home and today they gave me one of 4 VIP casino tickets to the Superbowl party....all because I wanted to create a friendly Monday night environment and helped someone who really needed help.. that is what Jesus would do
