Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Thursday Morning!

#1 - RECEIVED - The other day the snow on my roof slip forward and went on top of my windshield. I put on my flashers., jumped out of my car, because I couldn’t see. I needed to clear it off my windshield with my snow brush because my windshield wipers would break if I used them. A nice man in a pick up truck stopped and said to me. “ I saw that happen.”. He then proceeded to help me get all that heavy snow off my windshield. I thanked him profusely. I could have easily done it myself, but he took the time to stop and help me - such a nice man!

#2 - GIVE - I don’t like to discuss the kindness I do, because I don’t do them to boast about them. One thing that’s very important to me is giving to our parish’s food pantry. My weekly grocery shopping always consists of buying items and then taking it to church with us on Saturdays. Rarely do we walk into the church empty handed.

#3 - RECEIVE & GIVE - When I go to Aldi and someone gives me their cart without accepting my quarter, I’ll do the same with that cart when leaving. Truth be told, I always give someone my cart when leaving Aldi. When they want to give me their quarter, I always tell them, “ keep the quarter, the carts a gift”.

1. My husband and I are blessed to have a large home with five bedrooms, a loft, and four bathrooms. When my granddaughter got married, we offered them three rooms and a bathroom on the upper floor of our home, rather than pay an exorbitant rental for a tiny apartment. They agreed and we have been very happy with our arrangement. They give us a small amount of rent, just enough to help with utilities and food.
2. My dear daughter is so kind to me whenever we go out. She holds on to me to make sure I do not stumble or fall. She is such a blessing.
3. It's a small thing, but my grandson-in-law keeps the reservoir in our Keurig filled with water so we can all enjoy a cup of coffee whenever we want without having to add water.

Evening all,

1. Holding door open - this one should really be standard practice for everyone, however it doesn't always happen so it's extremely nice when people do.

2. Queue jumping - when I go food shopping just for a few items, I'm always grateful to the people who let me jump in front of them rather than wait behind them with their huge trolleys worth of stuff.

3. Airport lifts - I'm very grateful to my friends and family who offer to give me a lift to and from the airport, to save me from expensive taxis or having to leave my car there. And they never ask for anything for it.

Discount Without a Fight - Long story semi-short...I was given a lesser/smaller car than what I reserved. I tried to fight it on day 1, but the girl insisted the lesser car was now a pricier rental and currently considered an upgrade. It was 1:30am and knowing issues others were having, I just went with it and decided to be happy to have a car. When I returned the car, the man checking me in asked what they could have done better. When I told him my story, he asked how much would make me feel better. I suggested $35. He bumped it up to $50+taxes without any further questioning.

Breakfast for the Kids - I spent the weekend in an Airbnb with one of DD17s teammates and her dad. We were on the same flight, so we both got in super late. Yet we were both up relatively early to run/walk and hit the store for some food. When I came back, he bought Whataburger breakfast for both kids. And to think he actually apologized for not getting me anything, but wasn't sure what to get because he knows I'm careful with what I eat. In any event, super kind of him.

Attempt to save me a checked bag fee - The same dad offered to put DDs bats into their checked bag. He is a pilot for the airline and gets certain baggage allowances. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the bats to fit without concern that they might get damaged, but it's the thought that counts.

Received: Hugs, smiles, drawings, friendship, random acts of kindness, love and support from family and so treasured by me - the unconditional love and acceptance from the at risk teens that I work with. My job is exhausting and demanding, but when these kids love you - they LOVE you - and show up for you in the ways they know how. I have grown so much as a person because of them and strongly believe that God has crossed our paths for a reason. I am so grateful that I am so blessed!

I love the kindness stories!

I am grateful for a very kind older neighbor couple when we were kids. He had a huge garden in the middle of the block and would let us tag along anytime we wanted to, and she was a retired school teacher and would always bake us cookies on report card day. 🍪 It was like all the neighbor kids had an extra set of grandparents.

Grateful for the kindness of other customers who hold doors at businesses - especially as the holiday season approaches. People seem to get more helpful around here and the "door distance" gets a bit longer at this time of year.

Grateful to be able to do a kindness and take in a cat whose owner recently passed away. He is still very skittish, but slowly getting his bearings. I hope he ends up loving it here!

Kindness
One early morning going to work my car broke him I was on an exit ramp getting ready to turn onto another street just completely died and I was blocking traffic two men were kind enough because I was sitting here with my hazards on I mean you could get around me but it was a little bit difficult but anyway two men were kind enough to help push me out of the way

After my really bad car accident I was walking I was gonna be about 2 miles to get to a payphone this was long before the days of cell phones and this person pulled over and offered me a ride I was very grateful for that ride is I had ran out the door that morning with no coat and it was a bit cold and needless to say I wasn’t feeling too good after that car accident

And not a very nice person on my last cruise me and her hit it off really well and she was extremely nice and generous and she actually got lucky and was able to snag on castaway cay a cabana and when she did the first thing she did was come looking for me to offer to let me share it with her😊 since I wasn’t in my room she literally had me paged on the ship 🚢 to try and find me !!

Happy Friday Folks

#1 - OUR TWO CHRISTMAS TREES - I love them! They were not cheap and are old now. We’ve cut all the lights out of them years ago, so I need to light them myself. They still look fantastic and are so much nicer than the current trees I’m seeing in stores today. I considered buying one new prelit tree last year, but when I saw the price tags and how cheap and artificial they look, I said forget it.

#2 - GREEN RIVER SODA - I only drink it once a year and that day is approaching. We go out to dinner to a family owned hamburger restaurant the night before Thanksgiving and they have Green River. I’m really looking forward to it.

#3 - MY EYES - I love having green eyes. They go well with my red hair.

1. Trees - They had such beauty to our world.
2. All of the green veggies that are so yummy.
3. My daughter's green eyes -- She's coming home for Christmas and I cannot wait to look into her beautiful eyes.
