Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Movie memories with others:
Seeing the original West Side Story with my parents. They had to wait to leave at the end because I was crying so hard. On rewatches, Natalie Wood still makes me ugly cry when she says “Don’t you touch him!”

Seeing Time Machine with a friend who insisted I go with her because she didn’t want to go alone, (plus I really wanted to see it.) Problem was I had given up going to the movies for Lent. After about 15 minutes, my guilt was so great that I ran out of the theater and all the way home. Guess I learned a little about peer pressure that day.

My DD’s first movie theater movie was The Little Mermaid. She dropped her popcorn at the very beginning of the shark scene and we went out to the lobby to get a new one and by the time we came back to our seats, the scary shark scene was over. :)

Strawberries:
Chocolate covered strawberries in fancy restaurants or weddings.
Nestles Strawberry Quik when I was a kid
Strawberry jelly (not jam) on my PB&J sandwiches when i was a kid.

Happy Father's Day to all the DIS dads out there!! 💙👔💙👔💙👔💙

Today's Topic (Sun, 615) - 3 advice-givers, heavy-lifters, supporters, or otherwise Dad-like dudes you've been grateful for in your life, or 3 specific things you're grateful for about your own Dad

I’m very grateful for my next door neighbor he’s been a godsend to me ! Showing me how to fix things loaning me his tools 🧰 telling me NOT to buy tools just use his and when I get into a jam he comes and handles it he’s like a next door dad to me !!! ❤️❤️

I have a coworker who can fix just about anything he’s a young man is very busy but he’s always tinkering with something or doing some project up upon occasions he’s been very kind to fix something for me because I didn’t have the tools or skills to fix it and I appreciate him helping me out so very much to him it’s nothing it’s a simple thing but to me it means all the world

My second boss / he has come to my house on several occasions and fix things for me it could be plumbing it could be electrical it could be hanging a curtain rod it’s been all of the above it could be just about anything a man has a vast knowledge of home repairs getting into my house is like moving a glacier but once I get him there he’s extremely helpful I know I can always call and ask him questions

Finally I have another coworker that will send me Home Depot or Amazon links for tools and say this is what you need this is what you should order here’s what it is and here’s what you need or he’ll drop something off at my desk for me to pick up when I’m in the office to help me out And he always answers all my questions

I grew up with a father he insisted and instituted that women did not do such things we were not allowed to take shop class we were not taught any of these things because men do these things I was married to somebody who carried that same attitude but he carried it for a different reason because if I knew how to do it I wouldn’t need him that was his thinking - so I have not learned how to do a lot of these things doesn’t mean I can’t do them this means I don’t at this point in time know how to do them so I am learning how to do them can I do all of them nope but I have tackled a lot of them I am most thankful for all the Google videos that show you how to do things !! I will say most of those are done by men and I appreciate those videos so much with their step-by-step guide on how to do something very grateful for those and for the people who did them!!

Happy Father's Day to all celebrating :)

I give God thanks for my own beloved dad daily. God willing, we will celebrate at
lunchtime.

My dear late grandpa by my faith belief was my first witness to my Savior Jesus.

I am grateful to a kind older man named W here who has cheered me on in recovery and shared faith.

Cats in the cradle and silver spoon 🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

The silver spoon my father gave me was to be a great employee
This was done by having my sisters and I our hands and knees in the muddy agriculture fields, pulling weeds in the garden, rolling log rounds out of forest for fire wood and worms grunting... though not the method this morning on CBS... hand and knees with flashlight in the just water garden and my wives were thankful for my father having me to spend every Saturday mucking out barns.. over... over...over.. Hercules I was not at the age of 13. I can handle any biological mishap.

My Dad - for all the normal stuff, but also specifically for nurturing my intellectual side. He would always have time to watch Jeopardy with me, do a crossword puzzle, etc.

My FIL - for treating me just like one of his own kids

My Great-grandfather - Just grateful he was still alive when I was little, so I got to meet him.

Bonus - my DH's Grandfather - who once drove about 200 miles out of his way to meet me because he was "in the neighborhood" of our college.

My FiL was very generous and such a positive person. I wish he could have known my DGD.

My Dad who has been gone for a year and a half now. I am grateful for the time we spent watching sports together. I still have to stop myself from calling him to talk about our teams.
He also had a great sense of humor and introduced me to many comic legends, like The Marx Brothers, WC Fields, and Jonathan Winters.

Did you see winters in the movie mad mad mad world...he is part of our family history

3 advice-givers, heavy-lifters, supporters, or otherwise Dad-like dudes you've been grateful for in your life, or 3 specific things you're grateful for about your own Dad
All three I'm going to list are no longer here with us, but I'll never forget them.

1. My own dad

2. Grandpa Yeakey, my "church Grandpa" who had like.... 200+ "grandkids." - I never knew either of my biological grandpas, so I always say he was the closest I ever got. And I still miss his Grandpa hugs every Sunday. (Okay. Totally found a picture of him on the website for the company he started, and it just made me smile so big that I have to share. https://classictravelstl.com/about-us/harry-yeakey/ )

3. Mr. Eschner, another "church grandpa." Would always make a point to greet me. Looking back, he kinda took Grandpa Yeakey's role, thought it wasn't conscious by either of us. Like... I'm not even sure I gave Mr. Eschner hugs until after Grandpa Yeakey passed.

Okay. I was only going to to today's, but when I saw yesterday's, I had to do that one too, because my dad LOVED strawberries. So....

3 strawberry things you're grateful for
1. Memories of my dad (Does that count?)
2. Strawberries and powdered sugar
3. My mom's homemade strawberry shortcake

(but since we've done a lot of sweets recently)

Today's Topic (Mon, 6/16) - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter F

Happy Monday Friends

#1 - Fantasmic - My favorite WDW show and I was so grateful that we were able to see it in March, since it was canceled due to lightning in 2023 and was closed in 2021.

#2 - Fun - I love having fun and I especially love having fun with my DD21. We have the best times and the best laughs.

#3 - Fans - As in ceiling fans. I do not sleep well in the summer without it on.

Furniture 🪑- especially with furniture I love refinishing wood furniture I’ve been known to pick up things alongside the highway that have been abandoned

Fragrance - I love perfume candles any kind of scent I especially love walking into the hotels at DISNEY just being absorbed in that scent ❤️

Food - I don’t eat a lot but I do enjoy eating especially if it’s something somebody else cooked and I don’t have to cook it and especially if I don’t have to clean it up it makes it taste deep even better🤣🤣

Fridays! My work hours are pretty flexible, so it really doesn't matter, but there is something about it being Friday, the end of the work week, free-time weekend looming ahead... Ahhhh...

Fish. Ever since bariatric surgery, I've had to be thoughtful about the foods I eat, making sure that I get enough protein, but also choosing foods that I digest well. Fish is about the best food for me- whether it's regular fish or shellfish. Good thing I love most seafood!

Firepits. Love to sit around the fire, especially in the evening as dusk is falling, then into darkness, sharing laughs and good times with friends.

Just catching up while being away at the moment so this will be a quick post!

Strawberries
Strawberries themselves as they're my favourite fruit
Strawberry shortcake, not something we have often in the UK but always something i can't resist in the States.
McDonald's Strawberry millshake. I can take or leave McDonalds but their Strawberry milkshake is my weakness and so far the best strawberry milkshake ive ever had.

Dad
My dad himself, which gave me my love of board and card games and Formula 1.
My uncle who has helped me out at home and been a male influence/helper for our family since my dad passed away.
Both of my grandads, who I spent a lot of time with when I was younger and gave me my fondness of certain leisure activities.

F
Formula 1 - i don't like a lot of sports but this is one of my favourites.
Friday as I have every other Friday off work which gives me more time to do the things I enjoy rather than working!
Flying as it gives me the ability to visit other countries.
