Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Fantasia - It was rereleased into theaters back in the early 80s and I got to see it with my grandparents who had first seen it during its original run. It was interesting to hear their takes on it and how they felt the first time they saw it...especially my grandmother sharing which parts she found to be terrifying.

Beastmaster - This was a cheesy movie from the 80s that I saw with my parents one summer. Not exactly the greatest movie, but cheesy movies seem to have some great lines. This one yielded several that we used for years.

Wicked - It was the first time in a long time that the four of us went together to see a movie...and at least two of us absolutely adored it!

Blade runner December 1982...watched with a soldier who was on the USMA paper staff . He is buddy ebsen dopliganger...be it Tiffany or hillbilly..we would talk about his running in 10ks.... I could not figure out why folks did that...he had a red Ford escort..way to small for tall folks ..40 mile round trip to theater...by the way... I ran several 10ks along the Hudson.... and huh...I purchased a escort.. lasted 24 years

I'm struggling a little with this one, I feel like I've seen so many films and yet have very few special memories of watching them with anyone.

One I do remember is The Lion King. Its my first memory of going to the cinema and I remember going with my parents and my friends from our estate, its one I always remember.

The only other film I have fond memories of is The Descent. I went with my best friend who isn't good with horror films and she screamed her head off watching it, it was hilarious 😂

We've done movies before, but I loved the picture that went with this one, so we'll go with a twist...

Today's Topic - 3 movies you're grateful to have a special memory of watching with someone
There's Something About Mary - One of my first dates with my wife then girlfriend. We laughed ourselves silly at the movie theater. Hair gel anyone?
Star Wars Episode IV - My wife never saw Star Wars growing up. Went and watched the re-release. She loved it. Going in I told her it was basically like a soap opera. That's all it took.
Cinderella (1950s version) - My two daughters loved this move when they were little girls. We had a van with a DVD player in it. They watched it so much that the first DVD wore out and we had to buy a second. Who knew that was possible?

Wicked - It was the first time in a long time that the four of us went together to see a movie...and at least two of us absolutely adored it!
I tried.. but the theater is 15 miles away so never saw... but I appreciate your honesty about the other 50% and now don't feel so bad... but I love revisions of history.. so looking forward to a better effort to watch sequel

Hair gel.... that is a rough first date memory... but hey if she was days of our lives fan..then anything is believable ... truth serum... pressurized compactor....these are not the droids you are looking for

I'll start...

The first time I saw A League of Their Own - of course I loved the movie, but it was also going to the movie that mattered because a friend of mine had gotten a car (we lived in a rural area where the nearest movie theater was in a town 20 miles away)
Willamette, Oregon.... I wonder what Penny Marshall was thinking 🤔 🤔... just glad that Margaret Hamilton wasn't alive

Dust till Dawn go to the drive-in with a whole boatload of friends and you get to watch seven movies we used to do this several times throughout the summer when the drive-ins offered dust till Dawn and they were usually horror films I have a lot of fond memories of doing this
Salem Oregon did this with planet of the apes..
It was called.. Go ape for a night.. just once...I missed it and have been searching for any theme.. but would not do Star wars as not a fan of 2 or 3

Summer of 1977.. just travel down from Stanley Idaho and spending the night in cousin Boise backyard..bored.. movie theater not that far away so my sisters and I walk and find out that some stupid movie was sold out but manager was having a midnight showing ...and for that I was very grateful..my sisters and I spent the rest of that summer working 7 days a week in the green beans cannery 80 miles roundtrip..... might as well been a galaxy far, far away.

The first Harry Potter movie. It was opening night and DD wore a red gown and black round glasses with a wand. The local news team saw her and asked her to walk into the theater again; she was the lead story on the 11pm news. The other thing about this showing: When the theme song started, just the first few notes, the entire audience caught its breath. You could HEAR the collective intake of air, gasping in wonder.

Mary Poppins. I saw it when it came out in the theater. My mother and I went into Boston to see it; we told my little sister that we were going to a special Girl Scout meeting so she wouldn't beg to come along, too. It was just the two of us, and I still find the story and music magical.

Toy Story. We took DD when she was about 3 years old. The theater darkened, the Pixar logo came up, the desk lamp hopped out and jumped, jumped, jumped that "I" into the desk, and in the quiet, DD's little voice rang out, "That funny, Mama!" Everyone laughed!
