Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Red is dad's favorite color and one of mine. It's Christmasy and Valentine's, too.

Dad's red car that keeps him safe on the road.

We have a red couch that God willing one day soon will be such a blessing for me to sit on.

It is my faith belief that God has brought me so far down His recovery road for me first and foremost, above all else always, of course, through His amazing mercy and grace, Presence with me always. He has given me the tool of a walker that has a little red on it to travel many strengthening miles. A few days ago, a dear friend who has been with me every step of the way with love through my recovery here wore a red shirt. Dad has a red shirt too that I sometimes wear to be warm and smile extra to thank God for him.

Good Sunday Morning

#1 - My Parish - I’m headed there soon for 9:30am Mass. We’ve belonged to other parishes in the past, which we liked too, but this current one is very special and I’m grateful that we were led to it.:goodvibes

#2 - My Home - There’s no place like home! ❤️:goodvibes

#3 - My Grandparent’s House - One my favorite places growing up. I’d spend a week there multiple times a year and several weekends. I loved my grandparent’s house. I hope that I can have a house that my future grandchildren would love to stay at like I did at my grandparents house.

Sunday hugs to all.

Home! God willing I will be back home soon. This rehab does have a lot of dedicated and kind staff who as I have said I am very grateful for. I'm not a big Wizard of Oz fan but there really is no place like home.

Dad and I also God willing will be able to enjoy our special Disneyland trip either this year or next.

It will simply be a joy and blessing one day this summer I pray to normally be able to go anywhere.

3 places I'm grateful for:

The little cottage we rent every summer, backed up by my sister's apartment. Each gives me a place to go when I am burned out or just need a relaxing break. They are both within an hour of where most of my cousins live, also, which gives me the chance to visit with what's "left" of the family I grew up with.

Disney... of course. It's silly to be obsessed with a place, but vacationing at Disney brings relaxation, even though sometimes it's the "vacation that needs a vacation." I think part of it is that I know what to expect, even when having new experiences or something. All I know is, when I need some sanity, Disney is one place to find it.

A little tiny roadside shack of a take-out called "Flo's" in York, Maine. All they serve is steamed hot dogs with the most amazing onion relish (OK, chips and soda, too). We have been going to Flo's since I was a little kid. The dog and roll are steamed, toppings added, then they roll them in a napkin (which somehow becomes almost part of the bun, sort of). We've been eating Flo-dogs every summer for almost 70 years, and going there with my grandfather, talking to Flo (acerbic doesn't begin to describe her), is a piece of my childhood. I still love to stop by, where if you are in the furthest back part of the stand you have to watch out or you'll bump your head on the ceiling, and wait in line with the locals and tourists. These days, Flo is gone and her grandkids are running the business, but I still love to go to Flo's.

Lincoln City Beach Oregon...best US West Coast...if you want to rest and not tan, frolic or swim. Seen them all and none of them have the spiritual invigorating rewards like this Oregon beach. Tide pools, agates, crashing tide 🌊 🌊, cliff from which to watch sunset, a mountain that extends into the ocean and allows a framing of the view and thoughts....and bathrooms... though a walk away there are government bathrooms and casino bathrooms... when you are a senior citizen....a great advantage in visiting anywhere. Also the Connie Hanson garden when winds pick up... yes winds from 2:00 to sunset

1. My house - not unsurprising but this place is my safe haven, where i can be comfy and relax, get some peace and quiet. I've worked hard to get it and I'm very proud of that.

2. My local area/borough - I never thought I'd be grateful for where I live, but I've come to realise how much it offers. A reservoir, canal, a river and many scenic views are all within a short walking distance from my home and it makes me so happy to be able to see these every day.

3. Disney & Universal - I've loved Disney & Universal since I was a kid and have very fond memories of my trips there, but it's only over the past few years that I've come to realise how much of a happy place they are for me and how important it is for me to go here as often as I can.

Home: I am a homebody for sure.

The backseat of our car, my DGD is in her car seat and I am next to her. We have some very interesting conversations.

I have such mixed feelings about WDW now and I’m not even sure I can honestly include it in this list. If this was last year, I wouldn’t have hesitated, but after the stress of our 11/24 stay, I feel like I need a break. But if I can include favorite places over the years (since the early 90’s), it would be a no-brainer. *sigh*

My House
Disney of course
Crazy but my job - it’s in his house 🏠- often crazy but it’s better than going into an office setting it’s very relaxed atmosphere and we can eat whatever we want

Grey
My car ❤️
My walls - and they’re all some version of gray except for one room - they all have some kind of grey color to them - that was the theme I picked for my house - grey blue / grey brown / grey purple etc
My kitty cats 🐈‍⬛ both are black & grey stripped ❤️❤️

Happy Monday Folks!

Definitely NOT my grey hair that refuses to keep my hair dye.

#1 - My Puppy - He’s Grey & White. He’s almost a year old and is getting more grey highlights, which I’m loving.

#2 - My DH’s Truck - It’s a nice truck and fits him perfectly

#3 - My Grey Zip Up Sweatshirt - It’s probably my most used clothing item. I wear it a lot because it goes with everything.

I'm with ya on the grey hair, @slo !!

Grey things...

The first cat that was ever "mine" was a grey kitten named Dusty. A roommate brought him home. He was a very weird cat, but the roomie's boyfriend and HIS roomies had fed it LSD so... who knows what was going on. He was a lovely, cuddly cat, though, with some strange behaviors. He had a habit of going outdoors and being gone for days at a time(this was in the era of indoor/outdoor pets). He was always in good shape/healthy when he returned, so I suspected he had a 2nd home. One day, he just never came back. I had to comfort myself with the thought that he liked his "other" home best.

"The Bear." DD gave the this a couple of years ago, as I am always cold and our house isn't very warm in the winter. It's a grey, fuzzy-fleece pullover hoodie that goes down to my knees. VERY warm, keeps me VERY happy in the winter!

I had an awesome pair of light grey leather dress shoes. Heel is only about an inch high, they are open-toe, and the sides aren't solid leather; more like a lattice basket around my foot. They also fit perfectly, which is challenging with my feet. I wore them until they fell apart, and always cursed myself for not buying two pairs in the first place!

1. My car - its a really nice metallic grey and I wouldn't survive without it.

2. My kitchen - had it done a couple of years ago, first time I've ever got to design my own kitchen and everything I walk in I love how it looks. And I spend most of my time in it cooking or baking.

3. My grey 'oodie' - super comfy and warm and i live in it during the colder months.

I am very grateful to God for a dear friend who often wears a gray hoodie.

God willing one day soon being able to walk normally on concrete (grayish) sidewalks. In the meantime, I am grateful to my gray walker.

By my faith belief it is also a true blessimg from God that I am able to se the gray right here on my phone.

🩶 The kitty who inspired today's topic - She had a vet appointment for fasting bloodwork and was not happy to have to put off breakfast this morning, but she was a trooper for the techs, and got a "pup cup" on the way home.

Other grey things -

🩶 my old station wagon

🩶 a particular fuzzy grey hoodie I have that's super-soft

Red/Cherry

Meat/Beef- I love a good steak or a nice juicy burger. I think we're also getting TX BBQ for our softball banquet tonight, so brisket = more red meat.

Cardinals- I let Merlin run for a bit during my walk this morning. It picked up a Downy Woodpecker, some Carolina Wrens, Blue Jays, and Northern Cardinals...which were everywhere and are apparently my bird of the day! I didn't know that was a thing!

Chocolate covered cherries- I prefer the ones with syrup or straight cherries in there vs. the ones that also have cream in the filling.

Places

The Gym- I've been finding a lot of personal peace and growth there of late.

Our House- Always grateful to have a roof over our heads.

My office- We recently had home workplace inspections to make sure we passed company requirements. So, I'm grateful to have something suitable.

Grey/Gray

My comforter- I have a big king sized comforter that borders on being a heavy blanket. It really helps me sleep at night.

Towels- We have two sets of towels that I just love...from the patterning and absorbency to the fluffiness.

Walls- I used to hate it as a wall color, thinking it was so institutional, but I think I've grown to prefer it to the beige family when looking for a neutral backdrop...especially since I like blues so much and it's much better for pairing with the blue family.
