3 places I'm grateful for:
The little cottage we rent every summer, backed up by my sister's apartment. Each gives me a place to go when I am burned out or just need a relaxing break. They are both within an hour of where most of my cousins live, also, which gives me the chance to visit with what's "left" of the family I grew up with.
Disney... of course. It's silly to be obsessed with a place, but vacationing at Disney brings relaxation, even though sometimes it's the "vacation that needs a vacation." I think part of it is that I know what to expect, even when having new experiences or something. All I know is, when I need some sanity, Disney is one place to find it.
A little tiny roadside shack of a take-out called "Flo's" in York, Maine. All they serve is steamed hot dogs with the most amazing onion relish (OK, chips and soda, too). We have been going to Flo's since I was a little kid. The dog and roll are steamed, toppings added, then they roll them in a napkin (which somehow becomes almost part of the bun, sort of). We've been eating Flo-dogs every summer for almost 70 years, and going there with my grandfather, talking to Flo (acerbic doesn't begin to describe her), is a piece of my childhood. I still love to stop by, where if you are in the furthest back part of the stand you have to watch out or you'll bump your head on the ceiling, and wait in line with the locals and tourists. These days, Flo is gone and her grandkids are running the business, but I still love to go to Flo's.
